I’m an nurse on a postpartum unit and let me tell you that giving a newborn their first bath is just as amazing and special as this video makes it seem.

After a baby is born, the maternity staff is usually the first ones to actually see and handle the baby. But occasionally, after it's born, the nurses do put the baby on the mother's chest to let her see and touch her baby, then they take it and give it a bath. Then they bring it to the momma so she can breastfeed it. In reality, the momma is the second one to handle her baby not the first.

Nurses are so amazing but not paid anywhere near enough for the love and care provided to patients!. From the experience I have had ( lots), nurses do the doctors work for them and only request finality of decision making and signing off on meds etc. I was lucky to live through a long childbirth and a sever blood infection which nearly killed me. I had the most amazing nursing staff for myself and my newborn and even now with a heart condition as a result of the blood infection. I get the best care when doctors don't have the level of bedside manner or give a shit to be perfectly honest. Nurses need to be paid accordingly for the risk to life, long hours, care and extreme exhaustion experienced!. Thank you to all nurses.

One could argue that the video being taken whilst in the hospital could be considered a HIPAA violation but given that the patient in question is obviously under the age of consent it would be up to the parents to consent to the video being recorded and posted online. Consent is presumed in this case given that the father was likely the person behind the camera. Plus no pertinent information was released in this case in order to even accurately identify who the patient/nurse/hospital is anyway. This was a cute video tho
