I’m 40 and live on the coast Massachusetts.. I’ve been a dealer for 10 years I’ll agree on the Art Deco as it’s cheap to buy and easy to salvage.. From what I’ve noticed most Antique sales are locational.. Also what you find is locational.. As for textiles that’s only been a trend for the past few years .. maybe shoes Tshirts and jeans Name brands designer stuff.. Back to the video 👍

I’ll include as MCM is very nice and a easy sell the price point on finding anything is becoming tuff also auction prices are still holding strong .. I seen a patio set sell for 7,500.00 few months ago and that had room for profit.. I feel that the Art Deco and Victorian is a better solution because again it’s cheap - there’s more of it - it’s built well so it’s easy to fix or make into something- also the main factor it stores well and can get a little damaged and it’s all good .. MCM furniture you need to take you time and be extra careful.. 1970-1990 stuff is pretty hot in the collectible category’s mainly anything 🤷‍♂️

My take from all that is again always remember the sale and the location it’s going .. You can read a lot of market that way .. Nice video info is pretty close to what I’ve seen on interest from buyers sellers and dealers The age category’s play a big factor .. Cool stuff 😊

So much drivel and speculation here. Collectors (especally those with money) do not follow trends. Inflation does not drive the antiques market. Its all about supply and demand for quality. I have been collecting and selling Victorian Antiquities for 30 plus years with brick and motar location as well as significant online presense. After the museums stopped buying in the late 1990's ? the market leveled out (as it should) and returned to normal with consistent appreciation for quality items, the key word is quality. Anyone who feels the need to 'go to school' open a booth in a mall and thinks he or she is an "antique dealer" and believes a piece of paper on thie wall makes their opinion valuable?...is delusional. You have to have real passion as a dealer who actually educates themselves constantly , keeps up with modern marketing and provide quality service. I watched many dealers "trend hop" and go over to selling MCM or deco, only to lose their shirt because they didnt do research, the market was flooded, and they bought "look" over quality and over-estimated how long a 'fad' would last.. I've never had a down year because I build my clientel, welcome younger collectors into the market, and help educate them. ..and the one thing I tell them? Antiques are not an investment you have to want them and love to be surrounded by them and if they go up, that is just a plus"...ask anyone who bought antiques on the 1990's and paid premium prices competing with museums and only now are prices returning to 1-3 to 1/2 what they paid back then. So many thinking they were "investing" and thinking they be millionairs with Jelliff style mass produced Grand Rapids furniture.

Thanks for your insight! Actually, I'm working on a video which will compare the valule of gold vs antiques over the past 300 years. In the long term quality antiques could be considered a hedge against inflation and a way to transfer generational wealth (assuming you are willing to take the time to sell them at retail prices). I'd love to look at your online store. Can you share the website please?
