The music industry of 2021 really has very little to do with the actual music… it’s literally all about pr and marketing, which new and upcoming artists cannot afford. This video explains a lot about why the industry has lost diversity and the radiolistener gets music from the same 15 producers all the time… 🤷‍♂️ Furthermore, labels don’t sign talents (to further develop) anymore. They only sign proven track records…

Absolutely true. However, we don't need major labels to be successful. There are plenty of independent artists that do great themselves.

Yep all you said is the problem the industry is facing. They need to sign new talents. Consumers are tired of the same top 10 artists of the decades. That's why they started producing 80s and 90s pop sound since 2019. Because they know that adults people has money to buy music. Adult people like oldschool music, that's what they grow up listening with their parents. Young people follow trends... make you popular. But there's research that shows young people don't buy music. That could be they don't have money to buy music. So you might be popular but not selling records. My friends spent over 1k for him and his family to see Bruno Mars in concert coming soon.My other friends spent 1700 to see James Taylor. As you can see! Adults are buying oldschool music.

@@KingBabaJames Good and interesting points indeed! As a songwriter I do hope to make it, somehow, but it most likely won’t be as a recording artist releasing pop songs. It will rather be subtly in the background writing for others (having the rights is where the money is, right?) and through syncs… sad though, that a whole generation is growing up, genuinely believing that all music is free! We, the artists should all stop working until we get paid. But the “problem” with us music people is, that we love what we do, it’s a lifestyle really, and thus we do it whether we get paid or not! And then we are taken advantage of by the “non creative” side of the industry… we’ll they are “creative” just not with anything music related!

And suddenly charts have become a thing now.... whereas it was not that important back then... Now everyone is like "Thankyou guys , my song gets higher and higher on charts" ... like they consider charts as a main thing but whereas it shouldn't be that important
@AndersJensenthreeonthego

@@ShripatiDev2 Because the whole industry is so focused on track records and algorithms it has become focused on charts. I write pop music. Pure and plain, straight forward pop. If I want any success at all, I have to focus on the charts. I haven’t had much success so far, but I continue to release music, because eventually interested people can go back and listen to a substantial back catalogue. I get almost no plays at the moment. Not even enough so that anyone can have an opinion about the music and the quality. So I am fairly confident that it’s all due to algorithms and the fact that to even be considered for playlists, you have to have a proven track record first. It’s ALL you are asked about. “How many followers do you have?”…. 🤷‍♂️

Isnt it contradictory to see "labels are supposed to provide you a support system for grown" when most labels will not sign you without you going viral or having a social media following? Its literally not about talent and to falsey put a narrative out saying that a label will give this support system makes her seem out of touch melanie martinez got signed with no music purely just followers

labels are interested in people talented at getting money...influencing sells, musical talent sells. Both is the sweet-spot
@Solavation
@Solavation 3 жыл бұрын
@@Roiboscrafter no labels are just interested in people who have the ability to generate a following. This woman is super duper far removed from building up a new act shes talking about working with coldplay and other solidified acts. This isnt going to apply to someone who is just gettting started. Most a&rs are out of touch anyway and just want to grab whats hot
@Roiboscrafter
@Roiboscrafter 3 жыл бұрын
@@Solavation while talent is great it is useless if you can't do anything with it. It's like, you can be a great singer but if you can't make good songs it doesn't matter. The talent they seek is in solidifying acts because that is commercially viable. Whether it is continuing an already solidified one or starting up one. They probably wanna do both.

This video is of little help for most. If you have been picked up by a label you most certainly already have a very large solid following. Basically she says...we let the artists do it. They may pay and organize ads but they dont do anything to build a budding artist other than admin ads on social media.

I did the whole Gary V social media game for 8 years. Had like 750 followers on IG , had an audience on Snap, about 350 followers on Twitter. Of those numbers I could only get a few dozen to listen to my music on a semi regularly basis. When I launched a patreon, I could only get 3 ppl to sign up.
