Since you asked, I believe that trends are just marketer's fodder to keep the masses consuming. I prefer to purchase well-made things that are meaningful and useful to me. If you buy what you love and serves you well, it can last a lifetime. Sing with your own voice ...even if it's off-key.

At the ripe of age of 50 I no longer care AS MUCH about trends because I cannot keep changing the house. I love my home and I do makes small changes but I have drawn a line in the sand. And the older furniture is better made than some of the more modern pieces. Just have to find a balance.

I was thinking the same thing! Also People have to remember that beautiful people like Valentina do this for a job and not everyone can afford constantly changing everything. Just remember You can be content with what you have and still change small things that do not cost much. I love classic, simple design with a slight modern & antique flare! ❤ Valentina is fun and has some beautiful ideas 😊 Blessings to all 🙏

Great video! I am always puzzled when people say hold on to it, it will be back in style one day. Trends may come back but are always progressed and you can almost always tell the difference. Your point about niche styles vs mainstream is a good one too.

Valentina, I loved this video! I completely agree-I typically don’t follow trends because I have a very specific taste that blends several styles. I’ve been an antique collector for years, and I focus on a curated look that’s not kitschy or cluttered. For those who embraced the modern farmhouse trend and now feel like it’s ‘going out,’ perhaps you could do a video on how to update this style without having to redo or buy everything new. We all know the first step is usually removing signs and overly kitschy decor, but what about people who still love shiplap (I personally do) but don’t want it to lean too heavily into the farmhouse look? Just a thought for a future video idea! Love your channel and all the inspiration you share!

I have been displaying for the first time in years, my old silver (cookies - and cigar boxes, little trays and even vases) from 1960 Georg Jensen (made in Denmark - not the USA version). Straight lines, no ornaments or frills on them. Everybody loves it and I love to have it back on display in my house. Gorgeous pieces. My grandmother gave me her wedding gift Georg Jensen Pyramid silver flatware made in the1920 and it has always been "modern". She did use it all her life and so have I since she gave it to me.

No to burgundy furniture. In 1999 I invested in a very expensive leather burgundy sectional thinking that I was in my forever home. We moved several times afterwards and I could never get that sectional to work in any design after moving. So keep those colors off your furniture stay neutral. I’ve learned the hard way.
@sarahjensen80959 сағат бұрын
In general, regardless of the color, I find sectionals difficult to work with. I’d rather have two sofas. They are so much more versatile especially for holidays when you may need to rearrange furniture.
@lblak599 сағат бұрын
@ depends….it was purchased for a media entertainment room. Not for the great room where everyone sees it. So I wouldn’t do a sectional again. Specially with these open floor plans that the builders built today.

I love modern homes and I love the contrast between black and white. That's why I like your style and why your home made me so inspired. I'm seeing all the trends mentioned and I don't think all of these will stay. I can't see myself buying burgundy furniture or accessories for my home. I like taupe, but I've been traumatized by growing up in a beige house so I strongly oppose beige walls. I'll take stark white walls and accessories over beige any day.

My favorite metal has always been polished nickel. It’s the perfect combination of silver but with rich warm undertones. So much better than chrome, etc. No matter the trends with brass or black fixtures I never swayed from my polished nickel. Of course it’s the most expensive option always but to me it’s so classy and goes with warm or cool tones.

I have lots of silver trays, silverware, teapot sets etc. - some contemporary and some heirlooms. In my family those have always been given to me since I have been the only one who has appreciated these items. I guess I might get some competition now.😀

Totally agree- I want a modern decor in my home. I want to shake off the cobwebs of old and make it fresh. I think a common misconception is modern equals cold, and after doing a lot of research before redecorating, I feel my home is warm and inviting, with a lean toward organic and natural materials with a modern vibe.

I have always used silver tones (among other metal tones). It has never been a "trend" for me. My crystal is used on a daily basis and my favorite fabric has always been velvet, and burgundy (wine, merlot) has always been a favorite color. I wear that color rather than decorate with it, however. For winter, maybe a burgundy throw pillow. My decorating style is more transitional. For me, I do not believe that any room should scream "modern", "contemporary", "farmhouse", "country French", etc. This is just my opinion. I do believe that a room should reflect what you love. It should be inviting and make you want to be in it, no matter what style it is.

I love burgundy in fashion. I just can't see it in my home, even a dark burgundy brown, which I like. It's interesting. I couldn't stand the taupe color popular in the 90's. It had too much pink? tone. However, I love the taupe tone that is popular now! I also love off-white (w/o yellow tone). I'm fine w/silver in fashion but not crazy about Chrome, etc. in the home. I love Nickel, though, probably because it feels warmer to me! Thanks, Valentina, very interesting video! Happy Holidays, All!

Interesting trend predictions. I was thinking transitional was making a comeback with lots of people adding moulding and English home details. I know I’m craving cottage kitchens with some colour and curves like Jean Stoffer is designing or Studio McGee. I do love modern design too but am over the black/white/ blond floors in every home. It suits some homes but not every home or location. Maybe that’s what I hope to see then- good design that suits their locations better. We don’t all live in California or Manhattan, shouldn’t our homes reflect where we do live?

Agree! Valentina, you inspired me to focus in and style vs. simply “decorate” our bedroom with necessary furnishings. Always perfectly nice, but not inspiring. (You know, ‘cause the “good art” always goes where others can see it. 😂) It’s been the last room decorated in every home since my fabulous teenage 80s bedroom … pink and purple mural and a conversation “pit” with shag carpeting and fur pillows! Sweet!) Just picked a beautiful Arhaus nightstand: open form, ebonized wood, open on the bottom for my new H&M (your find) background tall vase (in white) and a small modern metal sculptural bowl. The clean lines of the traditional wood piece work so well with a modern sculptural vase and pieces of art, as they are quite happy being the stage. Also paired with some gorgeous tall metal lamps from Crate and Barrel. Funny. Moved one table and in the shuffle ended up with 5 new tables (three are in the living room), 1 large piece of art, 3 fluffy blankets, 4 new pillows, two lamps, and (so far 😉) two new bowls. It was very nice before, but happy for the update! Thanks for your enthusiasm, both for design and for living each day beautifully! Merry Christmas, Valentina and Jack! Best wish to you and your family in the New Year!

I was a country girl and still am at heart in some ways. I've always been known for my extremely cozy homes. People talk about not being able to figure out what makes them so cozy. Young and old talk about it. I've left farmhouse/country behind forever. My home is much more modern now. BUT I still have a few pieces of cherry wood in my home. Yup! I even have a cherry wood china cabinet. Lol! I'm sure you are cringing 😅. But i have been considering painting out my fireplace, wall mirror, China cabinet and end tables in black or dark brown. Is that crazy?

Burgundy furniture, Absolutely Nooooooo, our very first couch when we got married back in 1978 and we built our first home was a Burgundy leather couch and You can shove that where the sun don’t shine Lol 😂, I have a burgundy floral pretty dress I bought last season and never wore it, I think on some the colour suits them but as for interior design, it’s a big no for me, I love my home the way it is with the touches of black here and there, plus when you get to our age, it’s not something we want to be doing, we renovated during the pandemic and we’re not redoing it just because of trends changing, but it’s always interesting to see what’s coming. My neutrals is taupe (some lean beige), cream & browns. I’ve been loving the warmth. In our latest new build I wanted to rehome the orangey oak dining set. Even though I still loved the style. I sold it and bought a set with the trestle table. I like the look but the quality is so low compared to the older 20 yr old collection I had. We paid so much for the new furniture but it’s disappointing, I feel it may not stand the test of time.

I had a lot of 20-25yr old orangey pine furniture that I’ve painted black and dark charcoal. It’s given it a new life. They are all too well built and functional to get rid of. I bleached my stained orange wood buffet/dresser and put a light wash over it to dull the purple grain and yellow wood colours. It looks terrific with the carved corbels and sunflower on it. They were a lot of fun to do. I replaced all the wooden knobs with modern black long handles.

Silver has always been in style in my very very humble opinion 😅. Burgundy is a beautiful color and that throw blanket can match well with darker furniture and moodier spaces. The picture shown placed a burgundy throw against a white/cream sofa which would not work collectively.
