They (the motor industry) put up prices during the Pandemic, but then never fully lowered prices down again. They got greedy and need to discount aggressively if they are to win back sales.

Raising prices usually does not mean more profit, because volume will immediately drop. Price rises are occurring because the market for bikes is thinning as enthusiasts age out of the market. The only way for bike makers to recover their costs, over fewer bikes sold, is to have a higher price for each bike. Unfortunately, the price rises cause sales to drop even further, which will then require even more price increases. That means a death spiral for mass-market motorcycles, unless somehow the 20-somethings put down the blue hair-dye, take out the nose rings, and grow a pair. You’re welcome.

In California Newsomm artificially created supply chain shortages by not allowing importation of vitals parts into the USA. Plus inflated fuel prices in California raised transport costs, while he banned many diesel trucks.

I'm not surprised at all. RE has created a bike culture in India which can only be compared to the HD culture in the US of years gone by. This started at the top with the CEO and goes all the way down to the factory workers. The RE workers take immense pride in their creations, and the rest of the motorcycling world has noticed.

While I have no hard data just my opinion. I feel that 90% of riders buy a bike as a toy to ride on a nice sunny day when they are off work. I am guessing only about 10% of riders use their bike as a daily commuter. Even less are capable of riding many of these super bikes to their full potential. No one want s to spend that kind of money for something they just want as opposed to something they need!

interesting take on the m/c market. My thoughts are more is not necessarily better and most is not best. I've ridden BMW throughout my riding career. My first new Beemer was an R75/6 purchsed for $3100 US. Over the years (60) I've owned used BMWs and currently ride a 2009 K1300GT I purchased for $8500, it's new price was $23500! Service intervals are every 12000 miles, my last service was just shy of $600! I'd like to upgrade and onsidered a R1300RT but at $25K plus one of two option packages, the price tops $30K. Yamaha makes an FJ13oo with all the bells and whistles of my BMW for $18299. Some say it's outdated, I say it's proven technology with vastly larger dealer network and much more affordable service visits and probably my next ride. If Yamaha can do this others can too. More is not better.

You're going to compare the Tracer GT+ with the NC750X? I like both those bikes but they're not the same thing. One's a commuter and the other is a tourer. Honda's given up trying to sell NCs into both the Canadian and Australian markets. It's pretty tough sell when they sit beside the Transalp for about the same price. You talk about prospective Goldwing purchasers looking for something lighter and simpler. If someone doesn't want a grand touring bike they look for lighter and simpler. For someone who wants a grand tourer, the Goldwing will still be on most buyers short list. I would suggest that the latest version has some reliability issues that are probably hurting sales and that the grand touring machine as a category has fallen a bit into disfavour. My local BMW dealer has a few K1600s, some from the previous year on the floor but no GSes.

The whole motorbike industry is doomed, as in Europe starting 2035 only E-bikes can be registered. By then every conventional motorbike is worthless. If you then want a motorbike, you have to make a decision weather you buy a lightweight E- bike with a range of no more than 100km or a superheavy E-bike with acceptable range, but a price tag of more than 30.000 EUR and a weight exceeding 350 kg. And charging a motorbike takes at least 1 hour. So for a lot more money, you get much less fun and additional problems. Touring over mountain passes will be difficult, as there are no charging stations. I order to have an acceptable range you need to steadily cruise - a more sporty ride is not possible then as the range would decrease very fast. Why would anyone spend so much money for having half the fun? I don't see any chance that the problems of E-bikes will be solved in near future.

Value is relative, but it's hard to look past their offerings. 900,000 units last year. Go figure. They build bikes that people with real money in their wallets are prepared to pay for.
