As a kid I used to stare at a wall with grafitti art on it that was part of a air quality measuring station at the HSB bus station area on the Freiheitsplatz in Hanau. I can't remember all details of the painting because I was really young at that age. There was a guy depicted there who was lying on the ground bleeding and bones were poking out of his body. It just always fascinated me. That wall was unfortunately painted over. Needless to say this air quality measuring station fell victim to the conversion of the area later anyway. There also was a skeleton in the class room of my primary school and no kid ever expressed fear because of its presence.

I have to say that I for one found skeletons truly fightening as a child. Therefore I would have been happy to get some understanding from parents or adults in general. That being said though: considering the pandemic I wouldn't be surprised if the parents themselves were uncomfortable with seeing the skeleton.. not so much for finding it fightening but more so for it being a reminder of mortality. Maybe it's even a combination of both as children ask questions about death, which the skeleton may or may not contribute to.

My parents continued visiting churches and art exhibits completely undeterred by their children. To shut us up they bought a couple of postcards showing pieces inside the church or museum.
