There’s been plenty of noise around Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performances for club and country over the past 12 months, but the man himself has maintained a cool head. Donning a retro shellsuit for FFT, the Merseyside maestro insists he still has lofty ambitions - none more so than becoming the best player in the world.
We spent an hour with him at a secret location in his hometown of West Derby where we talked about his ambitions at Liverpool, his role for England, and whether or not he could see himself managing one day.
You can read the full interview with Trent Alexander-Arnold, as well as a host of other stories from the world of football in the latest issue of FourFourTwo: www.fourfourtwo.com/blogs/in-...[…]kjaer-longstaff-van-bronckhorst-the-rise-of-girona-and-more

With what you're saying the team would be a 3-2-4-1 which we all know couldn't work. I would love it too but international football doesn't work like that and imagine Trent being absolutely rinsed by Mbappe 😂😂. Overall I think England's best team is: Pickford White Stones Maguire Shaw Rice Trent Bellingham Saka Kane Foden That attack is the best attack in the world, you could see that being a Real Madrid level attack. 4 of the best in their position. Of course you would rather Foden play in his best position he isn't better than Bellingham and he isn't going down the right over Saka so he's got to play left wing. The midfield is incredible, Rice and Trent together is something you can only dream about and we've seen Trent's linkup with Saka, especially with his hat trick, it's like Trent and Salah's linkup.

TAA is superb in both positions but in my opinion it should be either RB or CM and drop all of this inverted, false full back, shadow midfielder stuff because eventually goals will be conceeded due to TAA being out of position and the wide open right nack area will be exploited.

I don't know why Klopp is playing him as inverted fullback He should be a midfielder[no.8]
@puppy2350
@puppy2350 2 ай бұрын
because as midfielder you need ball holding/retention skills and zone authority either through dribbling or defensive brilliance. TAA does best when he's given space and time on the ball, 2 things he will not get in the opponent's half against superior or competitive sides. He has good long passing skills but a MF also needs to work in tight spaces with sharp passing under pressure like Endo, Thiago, Macca do and even Hendo did, especially in Klopp's system where a positive turnover in possession happens at any time and in any situation on the pitch. Not saying there is no possibility but we have not seen anything on the pitch to prove his worth over Sboz, Endo and the rest in MF role. Obviously, we don't know if he displays it in training either. And let's be honest, Klopp is a whole smarter than the both of us when it comes to football. If he had seen it, he would have done it. So the answer is No. He shouldn't be playing MF unless Klopp thinks otherwise, or he shows brilliant skills in the brief moments when he does roam into the role.

Trent must up his game no matter where he plays, RB or Mid. But I think it is best to accommodate his wish and play him in the mid. Stop the bullshit of inverted RB. So now Trent must compete with Macca and Dom, the starters as 8. Considering Endo's age, there's also possibility having Macca, Trent and Dom as trio Mid. It will be even better if Trent learn from Macca about how a flair talented skillful technical super awesome player like Macca also working hard in defense. Actually, unless a player already win Ballon D'or several times like Messi or C Ronaldo, then they must work their asses to defend. They must understand, that it is infuriating to see players lazying around or only interested in one aspect football.

Football is a team sport so it doesnt matter whether TAA individually is better at RM if the team does worse overall. Putting trent in midfield required salah to change his game. Overall, the gambit worked, but you can see why Klopp didnt want to make that change until last season. Also trent played RM as a youth player, and transitioned to RB as that's where klopp needed him. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but i think that curtis jones and szoboslai played different positons in the liverpool academy and leipzig respectfully before joining liverpool senior team.

Honestly, hes a really poor defender, he's been our RB for 6 years now and never learned how to defend - making us weak and open to be attacked down the right flank...for years it was a massive weakspot. I'm sure they tried to teach him on the training ground but he's just too arrogant to be a real RB. Once Klopp developed Bradley properly, he was in the team (i know TAA was injured) but now that Kloop has seen what Bradley can do, Trent now finds himself NOT 1st pick in any position. And, he knows it too. He'd just better be the superstar midfielder he seems to think he is. I know he's a lovely footballer but something stinks about his attitiude.
