Im a feyenoord fan! But the strength of slot is that he can adapt to every situation! Sometimes we are playing not so good, then we all hope a player need a injury treatment or even fake it! Slot will talk to who he wants, and after this it will get better cause he read the game like the best! Especially in the break, I never seen Feyenoord play a full match bad! We always turn it around with tactics! Too all the Liverpool fans, Arne slot will be better than you wish for! In the Netherlands we call him Arne god! Even psv and Ajax fans will say that! Trent alexander-arnold would absolutely thrive in Slot's system as the inverted full back coming in alongside the DM as its what he's been doing this season & was phenomenal before his injury. We definitely need a stronger competition for the left back position to challenge & eventually replace Robertson in the future. 2 players for me stand out, the 1st being Owen Beck who was brilliant for Dundee onloan last season from us & was also named in the Scottish Premiership team of the season. The 2nd name for me is Hincapie of Bayer Leverkusen, able to comfortably play at both LB & CB, he's solid defensively whilst also very good at getting forward & being creative.

Trent’s awful inverted n it’s to easy to stop him that’s why he kept going deeper as a middle CB alot n eventually went back to more of a natural fullback. He’s also crap due to him being very risky on the ball which leads to many turnovers which isn’t good from deep that’s why he needs to be higher up. He’s more of a De Bruyne than a Pirlo. Trent wants to create, play a ball forward, isn’t patient. To invert from deep he needs to be more like Zinchenko safer on the ball, short passes, less risky n that isn’t Trent. Trent’s best in the right channel/half space like De Bruyne as seen in 21/22 season where he got in them positions the most n had his best ever season statistically - in numbers, offensively n defensively. He isn’t a double pivot player he’s either a RB or RCM. Gomez - Quansah - Van Dijk - Robertson Trent - New DM - Macca Salah - Nunez - Szobo

slots system is much more possession based and it will suit players such as szoboszlai, macca and trent more than klopps. Klopps system basically said in the final third just try anything cus if u lose the ball everyone pounces and wins it back in a high position for the best chance at scoring. Slots system doesn’t give away the ball tactically meaning it tests the patience of the opposing defence more because it’s not as predictable

Pretty good analysis. One key part is that Slot always adapts play to the kind of players he has. Its always high pressure and high intensity. But last season with Kokcu and Wieffer we had different build up. And the season before that it was different as well. Slot has used Feyenoord as a testcase to create good teams, but adapting the teams to the player qualities every season. He will not use the exact tactics he used at feyenoord, but will use his versatility to get the most out of the liverpool squad. I like your critique/warning on the midfield overload though. I think thats a fair point, as the eredivisie is less intense than the PL. To assess how he deals with that id advise you to look at the CL games against Atletico Madrid and AS Roma.

Interesting analysis, so thank you. Re the central question(s) (1) will this approach work in the Prem, and (2) do Liverpool have the players to execute it ? The second one is easier to answer, which is undoubtedly yes. In both CBs (assuming Quansah and VVD) and FBs (assuming TAA/Bradley and Robbo) they have players who are very good at passing the ball quickly and accurately and FBs who are comfortable being in the attacking spaces. In midfield, we have such a rich pool of talents, that I am sure both the double pivots and the attacking threesome can all be filled by players we already have (Mac can def do what Weiffer does, which is the critical role, and do it better. TAA can bring an offensive quality through passing and running with the ball that is beyond anything Feyenoord has. Elliott (and maybe Salah, Jota and even Carvalho) can do the 10 role very well I am sure. So from a midfield perspective I am sure we already have the players he needs. Up front it's more tricky. We do not have a fast, penetrative RW (Mo is past it, and Doak and Gordon are not ready yet) and we also do not have a striker I can be 100% sure can fit the bill. Darwin could do it easily if Slot can somehow improve his timing (of runs) and his finishing; Gakpo could maybe do it if Slot can make him more aggressive and assertive; Jota could do it if he wasn't such a fitness liability. Maybe he will want some time to work with them both then decide later (Jan or maybe next summer). LW I am sure Diaz or Gakpo can do the job, even Jota if fit. Re the first question - can it work in the Prem ? - I think it could. Prem midfields and defences are of course stronger and quicker and better technically than those in the Eredevisie, but the players he will have available are also a lot better, so that alone should not stop it working. I par like some aspects of it - I really like the use of through balls and cutbacks over crosses (which I think are very inefficient), I really like the use of a 10 and a double pivot (both give us much more control over the Klopp chaos approach in the two key areas - defending our box and attacking theirs). The really big question mark for me is that this video (and nearly all the others I have seen) focus almost completely on when we are in possession, and totally ignore how it works and what it requires (skills and player wise) when the other side has possession. Maybe I should do that video ! LOL

You are right. It's always the off the ball football that is the least understood and that becomes the downfall of Dutch coaches(e.g. Ten Hag at united) but especially coaches thought to be offensive. And just like with ten hag and united, the squad composition naturally has to be factored when analysing whether or not slot will fit as a coach. Offensive football is great and all but can he avoid drawing and or losing those mid table matches away to wolves, Bournemouth, crystal palace, Brentford, Brighton, west ham, Newcastle etc? My take on the off the ball question is that coaches who are good at it, are usually good at finding solutions to problems (think prime Mourinho telling like Shaw exactly where to stand during whole match). It's hard to judge Slots ability to solve those kind of problems until he has been tested by PL Quality opposition.

@jimflan17127 ай бұрын
We keep seeing and hearing about Liverpool going for Geertruida, and I have consistently commented that I think that is a waste of money because he is just the same as Joe Gomez (right footed, and plays RB, RCB, DM and occasionally LB), so it makes no sense unless we are also going to sell Gomez and I have not seen any such suggestions (no surprise after the season he's just had). I think there is a much higher chance that we will sign a left footer who can do the same on the left hand side (and provide much needed quality cover for VVD, and a quality alternative to Robbo). Colwill, Calafiori, Huijsen, Doyle, Pacho, Beraldo and maybe even Branthwaite (if Everton talk sense on the price) would all fit the bill there. Hato could possibly do it, but I am not sure he is tall enough ('only' 1.82m - 5'10").

A problem with this video and similar is that it supposes that these are the only tactics that Slot is capable of implementing. Obviously we have seen many managers believe they have developed an unbeatable system, only to crash and burn, but from everything I have read that is not who Slot is. Those who have worked with him talk of a highly detail oriented man who spends hours studying looking for ways to make improvements to individuals and the team. To me this suggests that he will be looking to adjust successful methods to exploit the opportunities that premier league teams do present. I think two players that might really thrive with slot are Jones and Elliot, Elliot playing much as he has recently while I believe that Slot will be able to develop Jones into a really good 6.

Do you think you could put a pin in this one for next season, resurrect your thoughts on ten haag from his ajax and 22/23 united days, see how bosz does this season, add in van gaal(netherlands) and koeman(barca) and then maybe contrast how their fortunes went, i.e. a longform on these modern dutch coaches? For Slot, I have seen a lot of different opinions from four four two, james allcott, statman dave, redmen tactics board, RDF, (probably tifo in their at some point) on how slot could set up, all have been subtly different. My big question is if the new sporting infrastructure might bring back Ian Graham and try to find a coach that fits their data models on the most efficient way to play the game. If Slot is that guy, then we may really be seeing a more continental style of the tactics and inclinations of the sporting director coming to the fore, rather than specific choices from Slot.

Can I apply to be your assistant? You don't even have to pay me. Just let me give my thoughts on some analysis. You've analysed Arne Slot's tactics and Liverpool really well. In my opinion, Klopp was more interested in an engine midfield over one that is balanced in both technique and engine. Slot overloading the midfield with Macca and Szobo may fail seriously as they're not designed to play in tight spaces. Slot will need to bring in atleast one quality technical 10 to bring balance. In DM I believe Endo can work like Wieffer. At premier league level, Arne Slot's style could have him end up just like Arsenal, he could fall under the shadow of Guardiola who also plays something similar BUT Guardiola does it with better players. Guardiola used midfields of players who are highly physical and SURPRISINGLY highly technical like Rodri, Stones, Akanji. And at the same time has the most technical CM in the premier league Bernanda Silva and the best ST Haaland. So he can either go highly technical for games where opposition could park the bus or go physical for teams like Liverpool that want midfield battle. I always say this, no matter how good a coach is, he can never be the one to play the football.

Perhaps it would be better to see it in relation to the transfer business they do this summer. Because if you look at the personnel, Liverpool have the right players. But in the positions that are the main core of Arne Sloat's tactics, namely defensive-midfield & right-back, I don't think they keep up with his style. 1st, Wataru Endo is not as capable of scanning free spaces as Wiefer and comfortable playing in tight spaces. 2nd Alexander-Arnold doesn't play the same style as Geertruida. He often makes mistakes and doesn't play with tenacity. So they will need to buy Wiefer and Geertruida if they can in these two positions or players who fit Slot's tactics. ❤❤❤❤

Klopp demand high aggresive on the ball off the ball, arne slot demand quality pass and move, thats quite differences on both principles.

De ligt would definitely shine here, he is very good on the ball and likes to pass it long as well.

I don't think we need to sign anyone tbh. Maybe the successor to Salah and a LB.Gakpo has to play LW and share the minutes with Diaz. Otherwise we're stacked everywhere.

I concur. Overloading the centre of the pitch will surely fail in the premier league. Too many teams stay compact and will win the ball back easily.. keeping width(even if you don't use it) creates gaps in the defence. The trent right to left switch is a prime example, which causes absolute havoc; the Bosnia game a prime example. Trent switches out to the left wing, defenders track, ball gets played into Bowen for a great chance. I really hope Arne can learn quickly and adapt, because the premiership is a different beast.

Nice video but is it possible that Slot uses a different system as he has different players and different opposition?

Hi. Please do an analysis on Pioli and Fonseca. Grazie.

I like Slot the fresh approach as Liverpool keep giving away the 1st goal. Obviously the other team sits back then for some reason.

i think this slots tactic is perfect for premier league and perfect for liverpool

Yeah Slot is gonna have to work on this one, the prem has a lot of pace. Them high central clusters are priming for pacey winger to go over the top from % ball if possession is lost

I think that Lewis Dunk might be interesting in this system

I think Liverpool need a better defensive midfielder. Chieck Doucoure at Palace would fit the bill. That is if they can't get someone of the highest caliber like Tchouameni They need more steel in there if they want to compete wit the big boys.

Is this era, we now need a good RB or LB or CDM who doesn't over move, other he will face it rough. You saw how spurs suffered abt Manager landing into his technique

As if he only coached in the Netherlands. He has also coached the team in 3 different European leagues, and guided his team to one European final.
