This man is the truth, I have yet to see a video where he plays badly or untasty. There are tons of trumpet players who have absolutely no idea what they are doing in regards to jazz, I respect guys like Trent, because guys like me can tell that he clearly has put in a lot of hard work and dedication and practice towards many aspects of trumpet playing, especially jazz. His language and vocabulary as well as his tasteful soloing, and advanced application over chord changes, speaks volumes about his level of jazz playing, many people never reach that level.

Thank you for sharing your story. After reading one of your posts on TH, I realized that I have the same burning sensation on my lips from time to time. Your posts led me to take it serious and have my self checked for allergies. It turned out my burning sensation was due to my contact dermatitis. So after getting proper product to take care of my lips, I've pretty much gotten it under control for the most of my playing.

I used an acrylic mouthpiece the first time in February 2022. In cold weather, below 40 f in Houston Texas, it was making it difficult to play Taps, and when it went down below freezing it hurt. On a recommendation I tried an Acrylic mouthpiece and what a difference. The members of the honor guard noticed the difference too. Now it's warmer weather I am back on my standard mouthpiece. I did notice on the Acrylic there seemed to be a "taste" to it I don't get with my silver plated one.

Curious if you ever just made a titanium top, I know it’s 10x more than brass, but I would assume it is more biocompatible than other metals, since they used it in my spinal fusions. I also assume you may have to add mass due to its light weight. Might look cool as you can play with a bigger shape and still get the overtones that a more skeletonized piece would have.

Yes we have made them in the past but I really disliked the sound qualities and also the feel on the lips.

Hi Trent ! Very edifying ! Thank you ! Why didn' t you tried a wooden top ?
@austincustom3 жыл бұрын
Cause I don't make wooden tops and also I think the projection is better on acrylic in my tests.

Was this allergy new? I know my father got allergies to things in his 50’s or was it always a problem?
@austincustom5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure it was ever new but I think because I was playing a lot more than when I was young it was a bit more obvious, especially when on the road touring!

Great information, Trent. After you switched to acrylic how long did it take for the burn sensation to go away?
@austincustom5 жыл бұрын
It was almost instant that that sensation went away Although it to take a little bit of time to get used to the acrylic feel on the lips. That however was a completely different sensation to the burning
