“You actually mean that, don’t you?” That is where we see Trent completely thrown for a loop.

yes it was great seeing his opinion of Ted slowly change in that episode. The had twist when Ted said "call me Ted" (surprised by the lack of ego) then again when Beard yelled (hey maybe we have an someone on the squad that actually knows something). Then after seeing Ted playing the mind games with Roy trying to get Roy to step up and be.a leader (Ok maybe ted isnt a complete idiot and has some Idea of what he is doing) then as you said trent was thrown for a loop with that last comment as he has probably never had a coach say something like that to him before.

My favourite scene is the press conference after Sam's protest against Dubai Air. Once Trent understands what Sam is trying to accomplish, he asks a straight up question, seemingly setting him up, and Sam's simple "yes" gets the slightest of smirks out of Trent. It shows that despite his journalistic side that wants to dig for dirt, Trent also has a good heart. He's not really asking Sam if he thinks the Nigerian government is corrupt (he knows this already by reading in between the lines), he's saying "I'm on your side, if you go on record, I can help make real change."

I love the scene when Trent runs in to Colin at the bar and helps settle him down after he runs out panicked. He's just an all-around good guy. Brilliant character.
@kathyastrom13155 ай бұрын
Such a great character! “I love our little chats” moves from sarcastic to sincere, and that shows his progression across the series. His dorkiness and excitement in season three doesn’t come from nowhere-he just covered it by playing the coolly cynical reporter, something he had been doing since the beginning of his career, apparently, as evidenced by what he wrote about the rookie Roy Kent. Being cut loose from The Independent and then soaking himself thoroughly in Ted’s influence allowed his true self to emerge. What Colin said about wanting his two separate lives to be one life also applies to Trent, but his separate lives weren’t about his being gay, but about his being a passionate person, not a hard-boiled cynic. His season spent following AFC Richmond allows that home life persona and professional life persona to merge. He becomes part of The Richmond Way, not just its recorder.

Great summary of the evolution "Trent Grimm" ! Your example with Colin being Gay was spot on, yes it was part of the storyline but represented a larger point that can apply to many different things in life. The show was great and cleverly written to deliver larger picture messages through evolution of each character's story: Issac becoming a leader and Roy gives him Captain armband, Sam realizing his status as a PL player can be used to address real things in life starting with protest and calls Nigeria Govt. corrupt plus his romance story, the Arc of Nate/Jamie/ Roy were all main storylines through all 3 seasons delivering many important messages, and Coach Ted Lasso himself hustling Rupert in Darts (Never judge a Book by its Cover or however you interpreted that) to addressing the important issue of Mental Health to name a few. Ted's philosophy "Its not about Winning and Losing, its making the players the best they can be on & Off the field" being said by Pep to Ted! The best Cameo in the show! * I read they contacted Jose before he took Roma Job: It Would've been funny to see him come to give the team his trademark "You are to Nice, You need to be Assholes on field..." speech, Ted being shocked as its opposite of the Lasso-Way, but the writers could have made it really funny!

When Trent realizes what Sam is doing, he follows up to allow him to say exactly what he's going to say, knows it's important, and when Sam says that, yes, the Nigerian government is corrupt, he punctuates it. He knows Sam is going to get what he needed. Sam is going to get his platform to say what he needs to say. Not just from him, but from everyone covering Richmond.

When Ang Lee directed Sense and Sensibility, they wrote a book about the filiming, with all kinds of pictures and stuff. I wish they would do that with The Richmond Way. They could even title it The Lasso Way, since it would be about the show.

@beaniemanmg9134Ай бұрын
I like how everyone thinks Ted's natural kindness is him playing mind games.
@aarici.99082 күн бұрын
Because to some people kindness don't come naturally. It is in the basal instinct of some of us to go into full-on rage, blame, victimhood, and many kinds of responses along the way of growing up being led by poor examples, and it then takes awareness to first realise the problems, and then lots of discipline and actions to slowly carve away the reactive parts and build in the responsive parts, to think, to navigate the heart truthfully, to look into the mirror each morning and each night and ask oneself if this is who I am, who I am proud and happy to be, and what can I do better in order not to spiral. People of this sort takes time and effort, often arduously, to get to where they are, and when they get there, they understood how much this was an opportunity they were afforded by many around them to become the better version of themselves, and in turn they return the favour by helping others navigate through their darkness. There was an article of coaching I saw once, from where, I could not remember, but it says this - "Why do we people, in the worst of circumstances, says the last thing on our list to the person we love, instead of the first thing, like instead of saying I love you and I forgive you, we ended up saying you are worthless and this and that" and that is a lot of reflection to get to the point of looking into oneself so deep and takes a lot of practice so slowly move your list of responses from the last in your list to the first in your list, to say what you truly think takes work for people who grew up in some really dark places. Which is why Ted is looked sometimes in a different light as though he was playing mind games. He wasn't. He thinks before he acts. Therefore there were two words to describe the fine detail between someone who don't think and someone who does - React and Respond. He was responding to situation after careful thoughts to best approach a topic, a sensitivity or vulnerability someone has shown him, and how he could best serve them in return. As much as some said that Ted probably played mind games with Coach Beard to act upon Nate during the part where they saw the video of Nate ripping up the "Believe" sign, I think it is far more impactful to think that Ted understood the rest of the team probably have profound rage against Nate, which they shouldn't have, because Nate was actually in the time of his weakness which Ted realises and he does not bear any hatred or anger towards Nate, but he knew Coach Beard probably have unresolved issues with Nate in these cases. Which is why he dropped the nuggets regarding judgment during a person's moments of weakness to Coach Beard to allow Coach Beard to see and to act, not only as a service to Nate, but to help Coach Beard see that through forgiving Nate, he could both see what it means to be judged during a time of weakness if Ted had responded poorly during Coach Beard's pitfall then Coach Beard wouldn't be who he is today, and to show Coach Beard that he has what it takes to change someone's life, and in turn, also forgives his past self which Coach Beard would have seen in Nate. Sometimes kindness came from a lot of encounter with really rough times, and a tremendous and monstrous amount of reflection and sitting in front of the mirror and asking and answering questions to the bare naked truth. It makes you think in situations before responding, and that is all there is. Eventually you become good at it, then maybe one day you wake up and look into the mirror, and you can see a tiny bit more light in the darkness, and it's not so bad.
