I’ve probably watched this a dozen times. It’s rare to get this kind of insight into a photographer’s way of thinking and working.

Anyone who doesn't understand what drives photographers, especially those of us that still use film, show them this video. Besides his obvious talent, tenacity and passion, he has a genuine love for his collective subject, his country, and the subjects within that collective, the people. As a cricket loving Brit I have to fully respect that.

I know film has a certain expression, BUT I don't really get film people, so much extra work compared to digital, I don't know, seems like a lot of work to get your image. Digital offers so many possibilities, including simulated film effects. Know there's some effort in storing digital safely long term, but still, much accessible with digital. I started shooting film also, but love the new way ;)

It is only a choice. If you enjoy the process then it is worth the time.

There is a process, skill set, intuitiveness and discipline involved with film that digital will never be able to touch. The experiential nature of shooting on film can never be shared in the the digital world. The experience of shooting and not seeing immediately the results is something only people who have only known digital are missing out on and its a process that is very instructive. The experience of seeing a set on contacts for the first time is something that all photographers can benefit from even if they only do it once and remain firmly entrenched in the digital world. I, like many who still shoot film revel in the glory of that experience of seeing work for the first time on a contact sheet and not on the back of your camera seconds later. For a photographer like Trent and many others like him "the work" you look at as tedious or unnecessary is part of a wonderful organic process. I work almost exclusively in digital for my primary professional work I wouldn't want to go back to film for this work...but I also work exclusively in film for my own personal work. Who knows maybe one day when I am no longer doing the work I do for my income...my personal work will become my new professional work and it will be all on film. Im not really sure what you "don't get".

Lars Rosing Ever heard of dynamic range? That’s what film gets you. Not extreme shadows and extremely blown out highlights. Also, it’s the process and that’s why a truly remarkable film photograph is worth far more money than digital. Film can get you into more galleries than digital.

I think Trent would have never been able to achieve what he has on digital. Digital has it's place but when it comes to experimental analog photography I doubt it can be replicated in the same way..

Great video, but such a shame that the massive name banner stayed on screen the whole time......distracting from what he was saying and obscuring some excellent example images.
