Finding good, quality shoes for a cheap price is much easier than you may think. We once did a video discussing how eBay is a great option for finding quality shoes at bargain prices. Find it here: • Allen Edmonds $100 Eba... Today, we're checking out Goodwill stores. I will show you how to find those higher quality shoes, and I'll discuss what shoes NOT to buy.

Thanks, Trent... Good tips. I think you guys may be putting the cobbler shops back on the radar with a new generation. I remember my Uncle saying to me as a kid, "What? You have never had a pair of shoes re-soled?" He grew up during the depression. That generation never threw ANYTHING away... "I might need it later." 🤔

Here’s a tip, go into the goodwills in the nice parts of town. Or even the next city over. The local GW just has beat up old shoes from target that people wore for 6 months and threw away. Gotta go to where the rich people live and pick through their stuff lol. Lol I go into GW all the time looking for shoes, blazers, vintage cast iron, I’ve never been able to find shoes locally at least.

Recently I found some ‘goodwill’ shoes that I thought my husband would like...I paid $30 for them. When I got home and researched them I found out they were - all leather, made in Italy, $550 originally, shoes!!! And they’d barely been worn. Turns out hubby didn’t like them (he likes his boots) but my 20yo son loved them and they’re such beautiful shoes 👞

I love Goodwill. I picked up a pair of mint$1500 Lucchese Anteater boots for $20. Those kinds of finds are more common than you think, at least here in San Antonio. @@dormantpixi2628 The "Suicide Heel" in regards to Florsheim, or vintage shoes, refers to that metal "V Cleat" at the back of the heel. Those are notorious for being very slippery on certain surfaces and have lead to many people slipping and falling. Some people who buy/wear Florsheims that have the V Cleat opt to change out the heels to rubber/composite heels in order to prevent such slippage and reduce risk of injury.

In the UK we have literally dozens of 'charity shops' in every town, the ones in more expensive areas can sometimes sell really great items at low costs. One of my best finds was a pair of Loakes boots for £10 that lasted me years as well as a nice pair of Barkers brogues for a similar amount. It's getting harder and harder to find these great deals as a lot of pro eBay sellers will scour them clean.

Another tip - I wear uncommon sized clothing and shoes. So I've left my business card with a lot of thrift store managers, with my sizes written on the reverse of the card and my "finder's fee" price. It works great for me! Every once in a while, I'll get a call about something in my size. If I buy it, I give my finder's fee to the person who called me.

@@moon-moth1 - I believe you mis-read my comment. I never "pay under the table" - I pay at the cash register like everyone else. I never ask for anything to be "held back." Plus, you missed that I left my business card with the MANAGER, if the MANAGER of the store approves my request. The employees who contact me are extremely grateful for the additional money they receive because I make it worth their while. No one is forcing anyone to do anything. Not sure why anyone would be upset and outraged at the prospect of earning additional money.

There’s some great “One and Done” pairs out there for job interviews, funerals, and drama club productions. If you can get away with it and you won’t be wearing it long term, go ahead and buy the $6 Garbage Shoes for your one event they just need to “look nice” for. If you’re really going for long haul shoes you’ll be repairing and loving forever, absolutely go for the best quality you can find and afford. And a further note: Good Shoes are cheaper than knee surgery. Don’t ever skimp on shoes if you’re in a job that involves a ton of standing/moving/labor.

@@jodolski ... I've had some very good luck at some Salvation Army stores; it's catch-as-catch-can, but that's the way with any true bargain hunting project. As for estate sales, look in your local newspapers in the classified ads section; Wednesday and Thursday editionss are best in my area, and probably that is a timing thing, as sale planners usually want a weekend to be open for an estate sale. If you do not have a local newspaper, try the paper in the closest large city; also, look at Facebook Marketplace, estate sales are listed there in social media now more as this venue is becoming popular. I would also just use your favorite search engine and type in "Estate sales [your home town]"... happy hunting!

The vid Trenton and Heath did a while ago addressing shoes they would “avoid” was very helpful and I’m glad my Goodwill has not watched it. The shoes T&H discussed are all placed on a “premium” rack at the Goodwill and all the better, re-soleable shoes are all on the general shoe rack. I couldn’t have told you a single thing about quality shoes a year ago, now I’ve seen all kinds of higher end shoes, most of which are still in great shape, on sale for $14.99 or lower (most not in my size though). Thanks!

Would have loved to see how you bring each pair of shoe back to a starting point for a new owner and how much the treatment would add up to the total invest, just in order to justify the whole process by comparing to a brand new version from the factory! Does it make sense?

What I’ve noticed with places like GoodWill is that if you have a more rare or on the other end an extremely popular size you will have an impossible time finding your size. Because they’re usually gone before you get there or they will never get your size in stock.

I've been going to GW to buy books, (I'm an avid reader) for about 4 or 5 years, but about 3 years ago I found my first pair of J&M boots that did not need any repair, then I got hooked on Florsheim. What I do is, if I like the style, color and quality but is not my size, I look for it on Florsheim online and buy the exact size, avoiding the anxiety of not knowing if I'm going to keep them or return them (hassle). At the moment I own 7 pairs of boots, all in great condition, Johnston & Murphy, Florsheim, Frye, Red Wing and Cole Haan which are inexpensive but very good looking. Boots and books!

I went out today and found two really nice pairs of shoes. I spent a total of 19 dollars and original price on them would have been 300-350 dollars for each pair. Very nice finds for my first outing looking at goodwill for shoes!

I agree: J & M’s made in the USA or Italy from back in the day were good, maybe great. I still have 2 pairs from the late 1990’s that are well made and have only been re-soled once. I would like to know more about when this brand started slipping.

This is awesome. I have done it. Not a great pair, but I got a pair of johnston and murphy breland kilties that looked like they had been worn twice. $7. That was in 2010.

I see Florsheim Imperials all the time at my local Goodwill. And a ton of Johnston & Murphy, for obvious reasons, living in Middle TN. Those Allen Edmunds for $10 two weeks ago were a rarity.

Oh yes, there are treasures to be had for a song. Recently two mint Allen Edmonds from the same GW store (same rack) on different days: $10 + $14.99; someone must have died. In my (very average) 8D. Boom. Here in Los Angeles we have lots of great inventory to dig through. All the thrift stores here are gold mines. Big cities have big stuff. Thanks for promoting the thrift culture. It's important now, and will only increase in relevance. No one needs new ANYTHING. The planet is maxed out, as you may have heard.

Of course you know if you ask around they will tell you on the QT there is a guy that is setup to buy the shoes. He gets a call when the shoes are sorted. That is the way it is done in Long Beach sorting Center.

Great vid Trent. Knowing how to search the thrift stores websites is key. My latest score was a brand new pair of AE Byrons with stretchers and bags for $37 bux + shipping. Sometimes they even offer one penny shipping to move stock out faster. I've also gotten some duds too like the Clark leather slip ons that were 2 different size shoes. Tagged wrong from factory. That is a chance you take buying online.

I paid $60[equivalent in UK] for a pair of Bourton trickers brogues that retail for $530. they're well used but have protective sole fitted and have clearly been taken care of with saphir. Buying used from shoe enthusiasts is as a good a bet as any. Love my 'new' brogues. Heavy with double thick leather sole

On Shopgoodwill.com I bought a pair of high top Timberland boots. Paid $25 maybe and the shipping was about $11. Came to me in the factory box. Neither boot was laced up, but tied with a factory knot. Looked the soles, never touched the ground. Brand new high top Timberlands cost about $150 and are worth every penny of this $150. Great comfy, really comfy, boots for maybe $36.

Saw this video a few weeks ago and checked out a local thrift store. Found a couple pair of boots that just needed a bit cleaning. So checked out another a short distance away first shoe was a vintage Florsheim antelope shoe. A week later another store 3 pairs of Allen Edmonds, 2 pairs Florsheims and a Cole Haan all for $46 ! And all in pristine condition.

I bought old pair of dexter lwb on eaby. I cleaned them with acetone and after that I conditioned the shoes. Took them to my cobbler and he re shaped the shoe as well as got vibram 430 on the bottoms. Great option for a more casual pair of dress shoes if you want a lot of grip with out a bulky sole. One of the best investment I ever done with a pair of shoes

Already been doing this before I saw the video. Have several pair of expensive shoes bought at goodwill cheap. Also have a good selection of suit jackets paying 6 to 10 bucks each. I generally focus mainly on the suit jackets dressing Italian Spezzato style with JC Penny black slacks. However if your a man don't tell women you bought them at goodwill when they ask or compliment you on your clothes. Many women are turned off by people buying and wearing other peoples clothes.

Hi Trenton & Heath, love your channel btw. I stumbled on your channel when I was looking for ASMR vids. The refurbishing vids are my fave because it's unintentional ASMR. My vids suggestions for your future vids would be 1) Go to Goodwill again & actually refurbish a shoe that you'd purchased 2) Do more ASMR vids and lastly... 3) Do a video where you both show us your shoe collection & which ones are your faves
