You know we always strive to give you our honest opinions on shoes, products, etc. on this channel, so when we accidentally give incorrect info, we definitely try to correct it. We’re very familiar with shell cordovan, and Peter Millar did an excellent job replicating the feel of shell with these shoes. We were mistaken and just wanted to correct the info given. These were NOT shell cordovan. Not that it matters in any way to what we did to these shoes or the video, but we still wanted to correct the info we gave. A shoutout to some of our viewers who mentioned this and also brought up the possibility of it being “techno horse leather”, which very much replicates shell cordovan. Interesting. 👍
@alldayseveryday31383 жыл бұрын
Would you have used a different type of polish than the cordovan polish or does it not really matter?
@Stoeff19873 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, thank you for the update! I was already wondering about the creasing pattern which would have been very untypical for SC. I did not catch the comments correcting you and I have to say the sheen and overall look really looks like it could be shell.

I'm am very interested in what you are using to Ruff up your leather ? Could you give a little more info?
@HeavyProfessor3 жыл бұрын
@@alldayseveryday3138 It does matter. There is a "cordovan cream" from Saphir which works well (very sparingly once every couple months). And for hard wax, only the hardest low in solvent--again a Saphir product, the mirror gloss polish.

What I specifically loved about this video (apart from I always loved the work you do) is that in this you see something, discuss it a bit, not disrespecting those that have worked on the shoes before. You form a hypothesis on why this might happened, and see if you can prove it in some way. So it is good to hear somebody go "this isn't proper" without yelling...

Chaps. I liked the video. I agree: it was costly but the resulting finish, on a pair of shell cordovan shoes, was worth it. I have a pair of Church's calf skin tassel loafers I bought second hand on Ebay. When I got them unboxes, it the sole was coming away from the upper. Turns out they had a false welt and were cemented (Thanks Prada for buying out Church's!!). I had my local cobbler cement the false welt and sole back. He said he couldn't convert to a blake stitch. They are ok but I know the sole will eventually come away where the shoe bends across the vamp. Wish I could sent them to you for a conversion - I'm in the UK so the cost would be quite prohibitive. Oh well, I guess I'll keep looking on my limited budget for some well-made loafers. I appreciate your videos. Thanks. Tony
