Yes it's great that you have a Dad who can help you. My dad abandoned us 3 kids when I just turned 3. We were 3, 4.5 & 5.5 . Life was hard but we made it without him. We learned the hard way how to survive.

Im a old timer , and I was told by a old timer to me the most beautiful grain in a walnut tree is in the stump . They claim all of the high price gun stocks comes from the stump. I'm glad you got what you could of it
@johnnymccann56072 жыл бұрын
yes that’s dream wood. the swell and curling , and a tree big enough that the roots are can be made into gunstocks . proper seasoning 16-25 years, then kiln dried . according to grade , grain , coloration cracks it could greatly vary 300-1000 dollars to 3000 - 10,000 dollars fo your highest grades shotguns and rifles. you won’t see 300-1000 dollar gunstock on a 100.000 dollar high grade shot gun. that would be like having a half million dollar car with mud grip tires on it. nana and papa wishing you well.

I would think your property on the creek is prone to flooding? You should paint the ends of that Walnut to prevent cracking due to drying out to fast. You should allow the logs to cure before you cut them up. Makes for less cracking and warpage.

Kevin, You left some of the prettiest figure in your walnut tree down at the creek. Where the trunk meets the big roots the figure is gorgeous. Beautiful for small projects. My grandad said during WWII in 42 and 43 he saw train car after train car loaded with walnut logs headed east. In 44 and early 45 there was still a need for walnut. Loggers went back and dug out the stumps of walnut trees they had already harvested. My grandad said he saw load after load of walnut stumps headed east. Give that stump a try. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Theft is a big issue where I live, so I don’t leave anything out, it’s all locked up, I even have to lock the house up if I’m out mowing or going for a walk. Police say it’s because of drugs; users are looking to steal anything they can sell or pawn for drug money. People mistakenly think that rural areas don’t have a big crime issue; they’d be wrong.

I think your storage would like that might save for longer time if you put them on wooden pallets to keep them off of the soil so they can dry without the wood being damp and bus robbing causing waste. I was than that you’ve got some beautiful number there! Make something beautiful out of it a bench for the front hallway or a chair for the living room maybe a table! I’m sure you can find some plans for something that you’d like to have and that you can show off your woodworking with. Good luck guys.
