I liked your bike park review. I am a local teen who has lived here all my life and ride trestle all summer. The town review was not very accurate though because there are an abundance of bars and clubs that are open past midnight.

Took my first trip recently ... Paper Boy, Happy Camper and Shy Ann were fun blue trails i mostly rode the first day b4 progressing to the black trails (36 Chambers was my favorite). Sick trails and terrific review of the park, only minor nitpick would be town of WP (5 minutes down the road) is a lot bigger than the little village. Not a nightlife guy but was surprised at the variety and quality of dinner options ... We'd get breakfast at the crepe place (spot on, went there from their recommendation and didn't disappoint) and grab dinner at Deno's one night and Pepe's (really good fish tacos) the next.

Thanks for the input and critique! Glad you had a good time and enjoyed the park.
@RickyDownhillRDH5 жыл бұрын
While I like your review of the trails and the bike park, your impression that the village is bigger than down town Winter Park is way off. Did you guys try Deno's or Volarios for fine dining, The Ditch on 40 for a Ditch burger and margarita? How about Pepe Osaka's for tacos, Hernando's Pizza Pub, Randi's Grill, Opa! for Gyros? How about Hideaway Park Brewery or The Peak for craft brews, or Idlewild Spirits? This is maybe a 1/4 of all the restaurants and bars in the town of WP. Oh, you want some crazy night life? You should have gone to Ullrs Tavern (Locals hang out) which always has a good band on the weekends and doesn't even get kicking till after 10:00pm. Any way guys, like I said liked your review of the bike park and village, but the rest, not so much. Oh, and good riding guys!

Well shoot Ricky! That is a pretty solid list of recommendations. Wish we bumped into you while we were in town. haha. VERY good and INFORMATIVE review! Thanks. I might add, I recently went to Beech in North Carolina and rode my 2017 Remedy. It was enough bike for that park BUT with being there just one day, a DH rig might have enabled me to ride another hour or two because fatigue set in and shut my old self down, LOL! Again, great review. I really enjoyed it guys.

One small section that you have to pedal 95% of the mountain is non pedal downhill. By far this is the best downhill riding I’ve experienced.

Funny that traverses are an issue in the bike park too. The mountain itself and lift layout lend itself to these long flat traverses. The same thing happens snowboarding there in the winter.

Great review; thanks! Next year is going to include a lot of downhill (and longer trail rides...and more bike park time), so this is key info. Thinking of renting an upscale downhill/enduro bike (at least once), to compare to my old Scott hardtail. PS, I hear the rental service offers some good season-end deals on used bikes.
@EricThailand Жыл бұрын
The bike industry as a whole has lower prices. Pink Bike is a great way to get used bikes. Also, coming form a hard tail, you will LOVE full suspension. It is a HUUUUUGE game changer; I know it was for me a couple decades ago.

As others say, you guys give a solid review of the entire area, especially from an outsider's point of view. Everyone else points out restaurants you've missed and some other local spots too, but as your description states, you are reviewing the park more than the rest... The last thing we locals want is you giving away all of our secrets and to get overloaded with people like happens at Whistler, so I'd give you guys a 10+ for this honest review. If you come back out here, talk to the locals a bit more and get the scoop on the stuff we don't want to advertise ;) Now I'm going to go and watch all of your other reviews as I wait two more days until Trestle opens for the season!

Would it make sense to have one's base camp at breckonridge or denver for more of the night life/overall family vacation thing and just make the 1hr 25min drive out?
@RNicknackpaddywhack4 жыл бұрын
I would just recommend a lighter DH bike or beefy enduro bike. 180mm enduro vs rocks box boxxer type DH like a commencal furious or a YT tues. they’re both light enough to throw around in the lighter stuff but still forgiving. A good damper is a must with an air fork though.

Great info video! However, I think I would rate this park a little higher. You didn't mention all the stuff nearby. Granby is a close by town with a lot more to do than Winter Park (the one you mentioned with a safeway), and there's 2 or 3 bike shops between Trestle and there. Rocky Mountain National Park is just to the north, and you could easily spend a day or two there. Estes park is on the far side of RMNP, and the giant Hotel that The Shining was filmed at is in that area. Roughly an hour drive puts you in Hot Sulphur Springs Colorado, which has a pretty cool hot springs resort with hot tubs on different tiers of a hillside. If you include this area, I'd give it a 9.
@TheLoamWolf5 жыл бұрын
Definitely all good suggestions! It's not like this park is literally in the middle of nowhere, it's just compared to parks like Mammoth or Whistler, it does lack slightly in the extra activities department for dining and night life. All depends on what you're into though. If it's camping, hiking and outdoor stuff that gets you excited, Winter Park definitely provides!

We certainly tried our best. And even when we were in the van we had fun talking crap to each other... Life on the road gets a bit challenging and with a limited budget we pretty much had to hit a place get it done as cost effectively as possible and get to the next one. But, we'll keep that in mind and try to have a bit more fun if in season 2.

Winter park is good, especially in the winter if you ski park. The drive is tough, it’s not right off the freeway like other ski areas. On mountain dining is lame, pizza peddler sucks and the Starbucks is a lame franchise location with much less choice. I agree the sandwich place is good.
