Using tretinoin can come with a lot of side effects. While I’ve made many videos with these tips already, I still get so many comments/DMs about this. These are some things I did when I started tretinoin to help minimize irritation. I currently use .05 Tretinoin combined with 15% azelaic acid but i worked my way up to this veryy slowly. The routine that has been working wonders for my skin… In the nighttime: 1- Micellar Water to Remove Makeup or Sunscreen 2- Gentle Hydrating Cleanser 3- Hydrating Essence or Serum (I don’t like layering moisturizer, so I use something lighter.. this step helps minimize irritation and flaking) 4- Tretinoin 5- Moisturizer In the morning, I wash with water, then I apply the following: 1- Vitamin C Serum 2- Moisturizer (sometimes I skip it if my sunscreen is already too moisturizing, especially in the summer) 3- Sunscreen

@@Anonymous-ri9kc only if you wake up with excess sebum. I have dry skin and I don’t use a lot of products at night so washing with water is enough for me. Also this helps reduce further dryness and flaking caused by tretenoin.

This stuff IS MAGIC. important note though- be careful during winter months especially if your temperatures drop below 40 degrees. I recommend using only twice a week during those times of the year even if you are a consistent user in order to avoid MAJOR dryness.

Yessss. I have been using it for years, stopped in December as it damaged my skin barrier but I have my skin care down to a science and have to use moisturizer or Vaseline during winter months but my oily skin in summer can handle the tretenoin

If you have very dry or sensitive skin, for the love of God, do not use Tretinoin as the first option. Start with retinol. Cerve or Inkey have good retinol serum. You should never use Tret as the first option, it's just too strong and most people do not need it. You should never use more actives than what your skin requires.

I have acne prone oily skin. I cleanse, then use a niancinamide serum, wait for 10-15m, apply a pea sized Tretrinoin (0.05%, my second tube as I used 0.025 first ), let it absorb for another 10-15 before finally applying a moisturiser. I do this before bed. It's been working great for me. I do this every other day as I was using it everyday before until a friend adviced otherwise saying it's better to let skin heal and take time with actives. Skincare is always personalised, you'll never get the results you desire copying someone's routine because you're a different human with different skin type, enviornment, hygiene, products and most importantly diet and lifestyle. So understand what's what, research, find what you want (it'll be expensive), use and experiment and when it works, stick to it. Skincare is all about the less, the better.

I follow Dr Stefanie Kappel advice on Tretinoin, she is an experienced dermatologist. She advises to mix a pea size Tretinoin with a face cream like sandwich together and apply to dry clean face. We have to start with the smallest disage like 0.025 and slowly wirk our way up in the frequency, once our skin can tolerate it daily, then we increase the dosage to 0.05. We repeat the process again we apply once or twice a week for a couple weeks, then slowly increase the frequency if the skin tolerats it for several weeks before we once again increase the potency to 0.1. Sunscreen is a must when using Tretinoin.

Its best for everyone to talk and follow tips from a skin professional like a dermatologist. Everyone skin is different, so dermatologist recommended to start with 0.025 and work yiur way up slowly and then increae frequency and once the skin can tolerate it, the frequency can be jncreass, then to 0.5 slowly again. Mixing the Tretinoin with a face cream loke sandwich is good and always use spf. I follow Dr Stefani Kape

For sensitive/dry skin, I wouldn’t advise to top off the tretinoin with a moisturizer because you shouldn’t massage tretinoin. When you apply a moisturizer on top of it, you are also massaging tretinoin. Being a very potent ingredient, it can irritate your skin.

Uhm no? You should wait 10-20 minutes to apply moisturizer on top of tretinoin because the tretinoin will have dried down by that time so there’s no chance of ‘massaging’ it since the tretinoin will have absorbed. Also, dermatologist do recommend buffering, so applying moisturizer on top and that is what mine adviced me to do

So I’ve been using tretinoin for 4 years too, and I go to a pharmacy to get a gentle cleanser and the worker there tells me, oh no you should not use a gentle cleanser when you’re using tretinoin since the gentle cleanser will deem the tretinoin useless and I should get something for acne instead. I knew that was loads of misinformation and it makes me sad that they think they’re liable to give advice. When I resisted she persisted with frustration. So much gaslighting in the place where you’re supposed to feel safe. That’s in Kuwait btw, pharmacies are like Sephora in here.

I just started tretinoin and my doctor advised me to stay away from the same exfoliant for a while so my skin can acclimate to the tretinoin first because the bha exfoliant may cause more irritation.

Yeah I'm on adapalene right now, making my way up to tretinoin. I learned the hrs way to start using some ointment in the hot spot areas... my poor upper lip got so red and dry. I guess I was accidentally getting retinol on my lips once I would apply my moisturizer... I guess it was scooting around on my face and it touched my lips and got terribly dry.

Yes you can use it the same way. Any time you’re trying a new retinoid I’d start it just a couple days a week and work your way up. An otc retinol is a great place to start
