t is important to note that retinoid creams should never be used without the consultation of a licensed physician or dermatologist. This is because retinoids can cause severe chemical burns, hyperpigmentation, and irreversible skin damage if not used correctly. It is also important to avoid the use of retinoids if pregnant. It is important to understand the difference between retinol and retinoids. Retinol is a mild serum that can be found in drugstores, whereas retinoids are highly potent and are only available at pharmacies. My personal favorite retinol serum is The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion, which is well-tolerated. It is important to exercise caution when using retinol or retinoids, especially if you have sensitive skin, open wounds/ulcers, dermatitis, a history of reactions after retinol use, rosacea, skin barrier damage, or have recently had facial treatments. It is also preferable to use prophylactic retinol after the age of 20, as the natural turnover of skin cells is good before that age. Always remember to use sunscreen and be extra careful when using retinol or retinoids. My experience with it as an intermittent user for 1+ years: 1. I didnt have a purge because my skin was already free of underlying acne due to good skincare (niacinamide, vit c and AHA BHA weekly peels). Mind you this was after terrible skin for years. I still had texture, scars, sebum and dullness. 2. I never stopped using niacinamide and vit c even in the beginning. It helped, didnt cause excess irritation. And in fact, i actually stopped using them after getting fully accustomed to tret because i really didnt need anything else. 3. The most drastic results were actually immediate because of the initial exfoliation. Very noticeable, was getting multiple compliments. The effects get slower as time goes by, but thats also because tret worked fast enough for me that there werent many 'problems' on my skin to see a difference very soon.

I would recommend using a drugstore one. 0.2 to 0.5% is enough. Once your skin has gotten used to retinol, you can gradually start using Tret.

Also if your skin is sensitive, do the sandwich method. Moisturizer --> Tretinoin --> Moisturizer. This will help you avoid the harmful effects of tret and help it absorb without any side effects.

Tretenoin could also be used in combination with hydroquinone for added benefits, as hydroquinone is a bleaching agent and if used with tretenoin, the results would be super cool!

The skin on neck is very different anatomically - most people are unable to tolerate tretinoin on neck. ( i start breaking out when i do :p ) i use AHA lotions or RETINOL for neck. If something causes too much irritation, its best to skip it altogether. AHA serums have worked for me, and have NO irritation with them. ( check the reddit group /tretinoin )

No tretinoin doesn’t make u darker it will only lighten the skin, Make sure you apply a pea size amount and most importantly moisturizer is must if you’re on tretinoin even though you have oily skin u must use a moisturizer it will help you with the healing process and irritation use Aquasoft fc moisturizer it also lightens the skin and make u glow 😊

If you are below 25 then only facewash, moisturizer, spf in morning and facewash , vitamin c serum and moisturizer at night will do the work. But if you are 25 or above then you can for retinol but at night and only use facewash, retinol serum or cream, and moisturizer. No active ingredients with it. You can use other serums in morning and top it up with spf for sure.

Plzz don't use tretinion below 35 yrs..it has severe side effects..follow good skin care routine at night. Gentle cleanser, niacinamide (preferable)/ hylarounic acid moisturizer, retinol cream(0.1%) and reapply moisturizer on top of it..this can help for anti ageing..!! Don't use retinoids unless it is prescribed by dermatologist!!

don't apply it over eyebrows, mostly avoid using over eyes, lips and eyebrows. I personally haven't experienced such things but I guess this will work out if you avoid using these areas.

@@samriddhirastogi I have been using it since 2 years. I had really bad acne marks and I swear by this product. I haven’t experienced increased facial hair other than the regular fuzz. But girl, that fuzz is worth it for what this does to your skin. Just avoid using it daily, start with once a week for 3 weeks then twice a week for 2 months and then alternate days forever. If you feel like it’s drying or irritating your skin then start the routine all over again. All the best!

Ita not recommended to use anoher active ingredient along with retinol/tretinoid. So I would change the salicylic acid cleancer to a more mild cleanser. I would recommend Cetaphil cleanser as it doesnt contain parfume, alcohol and soap. It gently washes the dirt in your face without drying it out. In the morning, i would recommend vitamin c serum and sunscrean. Im not a dermathologist though. Its just my anectotal recommendation. If you can afford a dermathologist consultation, go for it. They woukd give you better recommended routine ❤

Hi ma’am , please help me I have been using 20% L ascorbic vitamin C serum by Dot&Key for almost 3 weeks now. I use a salicylic acid cleanser and apply it on dry face and then use spf 50 sunscreen. I just stay indoor till 6pm and no sun exposure. But my skin has tanned, there is no glow, after application I look too dark, dull and dusky. When you apply vitamin c just after facewash then you need to skip that salicylic cleanser..... Maybe that harms you .... Go for a mild no active ingredient cleanser... But if you really want to use salicylic cleanser in your skin care routine then use it Alternative day..like twice a week ( that day don't apply your vitamin c serum just apply moisturizer or hyaluronic acid based moisturizer)

I've been using tretinoin 0.25 cream (pea amount) every night for about a month. My skin has turned rough and grainy. Is it supposed to do that?

Are you moisturizing , after ? Are you waiting 30 minutes after washing making sure skin is dry to apply it and then waiting an additional 30-40 minutes and applying a real strong moisturizer . Are you using anything else beside retin A , like any other actives or exfoliants ? Are you moisturizing in the morning and applying sunscreen ? Are you using a gentle cleanser ? Maybe cut back to 4 days a week and slowly build up maybe skin barrier is compromised !

@@GotyaSteph Double cleansing at night to remove sunscreen and dirt; I use Cerave oil and water cleansers. I wait at least 30 minutes. Then, it's time for bed. I use pea size tretinoin, turn off lights, go to bed, wait 30 minutes, put on thick layer of Vanicream (tub) and rub it in. Morning, I have to use Cyspera for hyperpigmentation (been using this for 3 years with little results). Wash it off after 15 min., use Anthelios AOX sunscreen all day if outside, I use a mineral sunscreen if I stay in. I have used hyaluronic acid, niacinimide, and alpha albutin also in morning, too. (no other). Thanks for your help.

Come on man you should never use salicylic acid along with retinol or tretinoin gel. Always use gentle cleanser and then apply retinol and after waiting for 3 4 mins seal it with moisturizer that's it. Just these 3 products. If you want to use salicylic acid serum then go for it in morning. I'll suggest don't use all this serums only retinols alone can give a good result .But not to pair retinol with other active ingredients like aha bha (salicylic, glycolic , azealic, etc acids) and then I'll suggest not to use retinol with this things. Because your skin will start purging once you'll start using retinol at that using gentle things on skin will be a good idea. Good gentle cleanser, facewash and a spf 50 is only the things you need. 🌟Don't Forget to wear spf everyday 🌟

Don't use any acid / exfoliant the night you use tretinoin. acid= salicylic, glycolic, lactic, aha/bha, anything that says exfoliant / acid. rest can be the same

Yes you can , but start off with lowest strength , and make sure you apply a really good moisturizer after . Start out using 0.025 tret only at night start twice a week . Wash your face with a gentle cleanser , wait until face is bone dry like 30 minutes or so. Then apply retin A cream, and wait until it soaks in wait about 30-40 minutes then apply a really good moisturizer ,Do this twice a week . Every morning moisturize and apply sunscreen . Eventually once your skin gets use to two nights then you can build up to 3 nights and then 5 , you can take two days off or slowly build up to 7, see what your skin tolerates little by little you might notice and increase in acne it’s the purge , it can take a few months to get results stay consistent and stop all other active and exfoliants as these can make the skin very sensitive and break the skin barrier . Once your skin gets use to daily use of 0.025 retin a cream then speak to your doctor about what you dan introduce but for dry skin hydrating products are key .
