I can't believe Rolling Stone doesn't list him as one of the top 100 guitar players of all time! He is far more talented and skilled than at least half the guys on that list and he's not just a guitar hero....he's a true musician.

Thats a factor of the magazines biases, not Trevors talent that did reach mass appeal for a brief time in the mid 80's, but that wasnt long enough apoarently.

Rolling Stone. The “has been” resource of musical knowledge. Just a politically charged propaganda magazine now.

lists are offensive jokes, ridicules, of bad intellectual taste when taken for true as they do because for the money, they feel themselves an authority of doing what they want because the name of their brand is famous in itself for the band rolling stones

This is what Trevor regards as his greatest piece/track from his greatest album. I'm not surprised it's better than a tired old 30th best album from 'Yes'. Howe was 75 years old on The Quest. His greatest stuff was 1970 to 1984 - 30 years before this.

Who is doing the rating? What are the metrics?
@richardwoodworth89969 ай бұрын
@guitarslim56 A fair point. I didn't respond with that perspective, but perhaps you could suggest something to the original author of this post.
@aguirreignacio3 жыл бұрын
This guy must probably be one of the most underrated guitar players of rock history Edit: After a few responses and other comments I read... I started to think that the concept of rating might be a problem. Maybe I should have said something like the guy is a hidden gem, or something like that. Which wouldn't probably be too accurate, anyways. Maybe I just was too surprised, and I shouldn't have, because the guy, together with Trevor Rabin put a legendary band upside down and maybe saved it, so it should not be as surprising that the guy is a fantastic musician. So, although some person was disrespectful, I kept thinking what originated that comment, and then someone mentioned quite graciously that ratings are overrated and that was it. I had the idea I was missing.

Back in '94 for the Talk Tour in Raleigh, North Carolina, I was in the front row and Trevor handed me his Sharkfin pick. I have finally gotten around to learning how to play and I am using this pick. I believe he still uses these! Being 11 years old and seeing this guy shred in front of me was incredible. This guy is such an inspiration and seeing how he plays is incredible. I can always tell when he does the music score for a movie, his riffs and his "style" is almost unmistakable.

That's awesome. When I had relocated to Dallas Tx for 1-1/2 years, the Dr's medical assistant had a great conversation with me about a large Jewish population there, but many of them from other parts of the globe (one of my specialists was from Peru). I mentioned Trevor, that he was from S. Africa, and it blew my mind that she knew him well, and even that his real last name was Rabinowitz. Very close knit community. Brought a great guitarist to Yes. And an outstanding film score composer.

Lately I’ve been listening a lot to Trevor’s music, particularly on bike rides to work and across town. He’s becoming my favorite composer as my ear has been acclimatizing to his vocabulary, which doesn’t reveal itself right away. Listening to Trevor is like reading a well written medical journal, that as you wrap your head around it you see the world a new way. It’s a religious experience. He probably just thinks he’s doing this or that, but he’s connecting a lot of really complicated musical ideas. It’s really great stuff ☕️

@caseyharmono971710 жыл бұрын
I agree. Steve Howe is one of my favorite guitarists and I'm a big Yes fan, seen them many times. Twice with Rabin. Rabin is fantastic, but a different kind of player more into shredding like John Mc Laughlin than Howe's intricate melodic style. Rabin was never intended to replace Howe. Rabin formed a band with Chris, and Alan from Yes called Cinema. They were looking for a singer and Jon Anderson became involved, then the way things went it had to be called Yes. It's really entirely another group, and sound under the name Yes. It's progressive rock, because Trevor Rabin is a progressive rock player, but more in the vein of Jazz fusion, and hard rock. I think it needs to be said.
