@trentmckenzie343Ай бұрын
A DMR, SPR, and bolt gun all literally do the exact same thing. You can buy one and have all of them. Save your money instead of just buying new toys that all do the same thing, spend it on ammo and training. Lucas has said this many times.
@namniagАй бұрын
@@trentmckenzie343 SPR is a receiver only, for hot swapping onto my lower when I need to extend my range off my 10.5 AR. DMR would be my first and only .308 gun. Bolt gun would be a light and highly accurized long range option for punching past 1000 yards, and also for antelope hunting. Everything I buy has a purpose, and just because I’m buying guns doesn’t mean I’m not training. I spend a lot of money on ammo.

"Budget" bolt guns is something I'd love to see. Maybe even just a single video where you give you're thoughts on a handful of guns and why they are good or why they suck.
@elijah4606Ай бұрын
In the budget category, the Ruger American is unsurpassed from everything I've watched/read. Many, many people claim sub-MOA accuracy out of the $500-600 gun. The only complaints I've heard are that the gen 1 stock was too flimsy and that feeding can be an issue with pressure on the bottom of the magazine, I think. The newer gen 2s seem well-regarded.
@trentmckenzie343Ай бұрын
@@elijah4606Never used the Gen2 but from past experience with the Gen 1 (rimfire but still the same gun), I would much much consider other options. It’s not a sub-MOA gun for completely certain, unlike say Bergara (not much more money for a B14 Hunter, and a few hundred more from that and you can have a full on chassis from the factory). Bergara B14 is GUARANTEED sub-MOA at 100yds with match grade ammo from the factory. If they aren’t sub-MOA, send it in and they will LITERALLY pull the barrel off and send it back. They don’t play around over there in Spain. It also has a suuuuper slick action compared to an American by far. For not much more money, my experience leads me to Bergara
@elijah4606Ай бұрын
@@trentmckenzie343 I mean I'm not sure it's quite fair to compare a rimfire offering to centerfire. Bergara is also significantly more expensive and the question was about budget guns. I recently handled about 20 different bolt guns, everything from Bergara to Ruger to Howa to Mauser and Christensen. In my opinion, I didn't prefer the bolt of anything offered more than the Ruger Gen 2 except for the $3,000 Christensen Arms and the $3,3300 Mauser. That's not really an option for many people. I'm not saying the Ruger has the best action at the budget level, but I liked it the best. I was much quicker working the bolt on the Ruger than anything else, which I find important for a hunting rifle since quick followup shots can be needed. The Ruger American Gen 2 has a bolt that's got a larger knob than many other brands, which makes it easier to do the palm-rolling technique for faster reloads. It also has a great angle and short throw. It protrudes out further, so if you intend to beat thick brush maybe something that's got a nearly vertical bolt would be better. Although if I were in thick brush I think a quick reload might be worth the tradeoff. Try rapid reloads with a bolt that's all the way down by the trigger guard, with a smaller bolt knob. You WILL miss it on occasion and you'll simply be slower. It's all tradeoffs, and while I don't think anyone would claim the Gen 2 is perfect, it's a perfectly suitable budget level gun. What's a slicker action worth when just putting a little oil on the bolt and working it for an hour or so is going to smooth out the bolt on a gun that's $300 cheaper? And while I understand Bergara has the guarantee, your statement by itself is worth about as much as anyone else's concerning accuracy. So I'm not sure why I ought to believe you saying that they aren't as accurate compared to someone who says it is.
