The pick up plate is made of Paxillin, which was a very familiar material used to make tag strip and circuit boards, back in the 1950's and 1960's.

These locomotives look difficult to maintain 😮 good job 👍 (by the way the video seems frozen at the end?

Getting the motor out was a bit of a fiddle because the magnet retaining nut was catching on the chassis. The maintenance is quite simple and you don't need to take out the motor all the time, I'm doing it because the chassis is really dirty and the motor requires a proper servicing. My Hornby acHO SNCF 131tb has a similar motor but I didn't need to take it out.

Yes, the video froze 🤬 but I did succeed in getting the motor out, I'm publishing a follow-up video right now

@@patricksmodels I am bit reluctant to buy this older type of locomotives because of the chassis, afraid of shorts honestly.

@@railway187 as long as the insulation on the brush holder connected to the pickups is in good condtion there's no real danger of shorting out. I've been running my Hornby acHO for some time, it has an evolution of this motor and a live chassis, and I've never had any problems. Shorting can happen only if the brush holder insulation fails, if the locomotive derails the chassis doesn't come in contact with either rail.
