60+ years old and the locomotive can still crawl across points and diamond crossings. One of the best ever Triang locomotive’s in all its guises.

But it won't work on modern track and you don't know what work went on to get it running. It'll be interesting to see if any of their current offerings work in 6 years let alone 60 years!

Thanks Oscar, the Triang tanks are rather lovely, I have quite a few, they just seem to turn up! The 3MT 2-6-2 is in great condition, I recently bought a celulose acetate version that apears to be on a more recent chassis, I'd been looking for a black one for a while, having bought one that turned out to be a refinished green version, it had three layers of paint on it, it was very cheap, but I have it running well.

Hi Paul, great to hear you have a few of these in your collection. It's always hard to find an excuse not to say yes when another one shows up... great bits to use on that! or way better than the one I already have in black! or different decals... All good fun. Oscar

I remain incredibly envious that your wagons with mk2 couplings stay connected travelling forwards and mostly stay on the rails when reversing! And despite having a camera running too!! Thanks as always for sharing these videos I'm sure we get as much fun watching as you do making them. :0)

Thanks Mike. Great to hear you enjoyed the video, it's very rewarding when they all stay together, but as you know, despite best efforts sometimes they will just keep leaping apart. Take care. Oscar

Another good one Oscar . looking at them you forget the age of these models . They are older than me ! That 2-6-2 tank is a great runner , No hesitation over points and diamond at all . Great stuff

Good morning Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire again. Just watched your masterpiece of another video. It was great to see your tank wagons and tank locomotive. I remember these tank wagons and I think I had a couple of them myself. They look wonderful as a rake of them. Your elevated station looks very busy today, must be lots of people coming back off their holidays Lol. Thank you again for a wonderful treat every Sunday morning. Well, as always, it's time for my cup of tea and a toasted tea cake. 🙂And i shall watch you r wonderful video again Oscar. Keep safe and have a good week ahead. See you next Sunday Oscar. 👍🚂☕

I think Triang's colour choices for rolling stock were pretty close to the real thing in the 50s and 60s. Not too sure about Hornby's in the ensuing years which seem to have been more vibrant. Maybe appealling to a broader market. Great video as always Oscar. Thank you.

Superb video again this week Oscar. I like the way you seek out the various versions of these wagons and highlight them for us. I had no idea that the tanks came as 1 or 3 sectional pieces. I did notice differences in some of the underframes that you did not mention, i.e. a black rectangle beneath the tank. I also noticed some letters printed on the end flaps of the boxes, A.F. on some, A.C. on others. Could that be a coding for the different box sizes I wonder? The old R.59 looked right at home with the rake of yellow wagons and it ran very smoothly at all speeds. More lovely items to keep an eye out for. David.

Good afternoon David great to hear you enjoyed Sunday's video. From what I read those letter codes on the boxes were for internal use in the factory. There was some making reproduction boxes and they have a list of the different codes = sizes. www.tri-angsociety.co.uk//boxorder.html Take care. Oscar

Hi Oscar, to prevent decals breaking down anymore and protect them, you can use some modelling varnish over them. Matt or silk depending on the wagon's finish. This will not harm them and you will not see the difference. In real life any flammable tanks would have a van between them and the engine to prevent fire. Often just a ventilated van. It wouldn't be carrying anything just there to stop sparks! Even on diesels!!

My poor train set is under dust sheets at the moment because I am busy doing other things and it is so nice to watch your videos so that I can keep seeing the lovely Tri-ang models. The rake of wagons looks so colourful and those early die cast chassis make a wonderful sound going over the track. Shiny acetate never disappoints either. 😊👍

Great video Oscar...ive got a couple of the triang yellow and one black tanker. My dad bought them second hand from a train model enthusiast back in the early seventies when I was a kid...50 years later and I've starting collecting model railway stock! Just need to finish the loft conversion 😊 All the best to you!!

Another smashing video Oscar! Thankyou. 17:10 Derailments? On your layout? I actually don’t ever remember seeing one. I never cease to be amazed by the quality of your track laying and maintenance. I was busy eating my lunch and didn’t see what happened at 20:35😂😂😂 I’m off to test my newly acquired Ronald Dodd magnetiser 😊. My 60th birthday present. I’m going to remove all the neo magnets I fitted to my HD locos and put back the original alnicos. I’ve had a couple of armatures go bad and I wonder if the neomagnets are the source of the problem. What do you think ? I just got back from holidays which included a short trip to the UK, I picked up a 3-rail Dublo 4MT 2-6-4T from a nice shop in Ramsgate for £20!!! Runs great, though it may get a repaint and a lovely little Triang Jinty, with smoke unit surprisingly here in France for 15€!! All in all an excellent summer. 😊😊 I’ve never owned one of these 3MT’s I must look out for one. I love the idea that when Triang made these the real ones were still part of the everyday railway, they may have still been being built when Triang produced theirs. Such a shame that none survived, they’d be an ideal locomotive for a lot of preserved railways.

Hi Robin, thanks for looking in. Terrific to hear you've got yourself one of those magnetisers. I've been very pleased with mine, an excellent bit of equipment. I've even had a great results on the horseshoe magnets. Take care. Oscar

Morning Oscar, the hoops on the underframe show it's a more accurate depiction of a wooden underframe. So it could be a retooled later chassis with more detail.

Sometimes, derailments occur due to unwanted buffer-locking on curves. Check that the couplings of wagons aren't too stiff, which is sometimes the case. The solution? Loosen the couplings slightly by slightly unscrewing the little screw underneath, and the problem should be rectified.
@oscarpaisley4 ай бұрын
Thanks, Kelly. I'll keep a lookout for that. Oscar

Hello Oscar - I've just noticed - on the end of the boxes - on the Tab bit - @ 1:04 - one box has got the 2 letters of "A.C." & the box next to it has got the 2 letters of "A. F." - What do those letters stand for please??? Also @ 4:52 - I have the same Loco but a newer version R3404 No. 42334!!! 🤔🙂🚂🚂🚂
@oscarpaisley4 ай бұрын
Good morning Jimyjames thanks again for looking in. The letter codes on the boxes were identification for internal use at the factory first added to the boxes in the early 50s. Different sizes of boxes are having different codes. reproduction boxes are used to be available at this link. I'm not sure they're still available. They still have the codes and the relevant approximate sizes listed. www.tri-angsociety.co.uk//boxorder.html Take care. Oscar

Hi Oscar, The yellow tankers look very nice? I only have a couple of those, but quite a few black and the silvery BP / Shell ones.. You were wise pushing that rake most of the time? Some of the old Mk. 2 couplers looked ready to pop open going forwards? They would be good candidates for some pieces of drinking straws to hold them together on a long trip? Charlie loves the R 59 loco.. Some bean counter at Tri-ang must have decided to save a few pence on the slightly smaller boxes? (I am assuming that the older boxes were the bigger ones) There would probably have been thicker Cardboard tube spacer rings, inside to protect the couplers too when they were new? So many minor changes, as time goes on? It's fun looking for things that get done differently as time passes? I am also very partial to the R 117 T.C. tank wagons.. I think that they make a great train as well? Your shorter videos are over all to quick.. I like hearing your descriptions of the trains, and don't mind at all if they take a while? None the less, we are grateful for any vision of these classic trains.. Thank you for the memories.. Cheers, Rob
@oscarpaisley4 ай бұрын
Thanks, Rob. Great to hear you enjoyed that. Those R.59 Locos really are splendid looking models great to hear Charlie likes them. I had not realised I had quite so many of these yellow tankers they seem to make a great train. I do have a few of those TC tank wagons in Red, Yellow and Blue. Sadly, the green variation I don't have. Take care. Oscar

The couplings show this as 58 or 59 I don't know the exact date of the change over of couplings. Even by the early 60s the acetone models had warped, So much history and nostalgia in your videos. Clearly remember when Brittania was a brand new model still to be released. I'm now 71

I have recently become the owner of a bunch of early R90 & R101 track (enough for a small layout) and a boxed R119 TPO as well as a R2 power unit. I have no use for these as I have later era models., so would like to sell them on. The killer is I live in NZ and there really is no market here for these items. Would these items be of interest to you or would you know anybody that might be. Thanks. Arthur
@oscarpaisley4 ай бұрын
Hi Arthur, sounds like some great items there, but I think shipping, especially to Europe would not be cost-effective, if you keep an eye on the comments there are a number of people who very kindly comment frequently on the channel that appear to be much closer to you who may well be interested. Take care. Oscar

I have this persistent disagreement with my brother-in-law. He likes to run trains with a variety of wagons (eg, 20+ private owner coal wagons). I prefer rakes of identical / similar wagons (eg, 12, 16 & 20T steel mineral wagons). Do you have a preference in such matters?
@oscarpaisley4 ай бұрын
Hi Stephen, interesting question, I'm not sure I have an answer for it though... I can see both points of view, a train of identical wagons has an exceptionally strong look on the railway but then again a variety of different wagons is also very interesting to look at. All the best. Oscar

Great range of items in this video Oscar, the tank locomotive looks great in that BR livery, unfortunate that it has distorted from triangs terrible choice of materials, those tankers are very nice looking, I have a tanker train now myself but they are made from Lima bogie tankers, keep up the great work Oscar.

Good afternoon David thank you again for looking in. Great to hear you've got a train of Lima bogie tankers, they look terrific under way. I don't think Tri-ang were the only ones to make poor choices in materials I think Lego sufferd from it as well early on. Take care. Oscar
