Thank you Colt, I found this video extremely informative! I just bought my first TCA PRC-152A (U/V). It’s the one w/ the small antenna in the back, and the GPS function. I have to admit, even as an experienced ham radio operator, I am utterly clueless as to ALL of the functionality and the instructions I need. I can’t find anything even remotely like a real users manual. I’ve found several different “quick-start” manuals, but not a proper, full “users manual”. I'm so stoked to have finally taken the plunge and spend the money to get one. (I’m glad I did wait, as mine is not flat on the back like most, it has the rear “bulge” to accommodate the small 1”GPS antenna.) but I’m really glad that a channel like yours exists, and I will sub, to see what else you have on the TCA & TRI PRC-152/152A radio functionality, and accessories. I also LOVE that you include links to the items you review/exhibit! I’m still confused as things like why the PTT has two distinct switches. one for a light push, and a second distinct “click” when it’s pushed even harder!? Like I said, I’m a total noob w/ this radio. (heck my battery is still on charge. Thanks for your channel. Lee

Very good video & perfect timing. I just received a 2022 Tri PRC 152 and it arrived today. Was supposed to include the KDU, which was not enclosed. I have the older identical radio (which was supposed to include 25- 30 mhz, which I can't find). I've been trying to attach a Harris HH 250 telephone mic to the connector all afternoon, and still can't get it to attach. I tried your trick, but still no joy. Any other ideas on getting it connected? Thanks for your video!
@CallMeColtLLC2 жыл бұрын
If you are lining everything on the connector up properly as I showed and it still isn't connecting, the only things I can think of are that one of the connectors are out of spec, or an o-ring seal is swollen. When they are new, they are tight. You won't break them, so don't be afraid to push it on there once you know the notches are lined up properly.

I considered it very heavily. But, it has the same frequency coverage as the Baofeng BF-F8HP, with similar output wattage, and it is only FM output. . The huge battery interested me. The metal casing interested me, as well. But those were the only advantages. I already have the Baofeng BF-F8HP. I came very close to getting the PRC-152. I just could not justify it.
@CallMeColtLLC Жыл бұрын
BF-F8HP is almost half the TX power, not waterproof, can't scramble, can't work with both microphone types, can listen to aviation, won't connect to military 6 pin connections, doesn't have a remote KDU, doesn't have many cases options due to military use, and doesn't have a built in repeater. But yeah, it's almost the same. 🙃 The Kenwood 2 pin connector alone is terrible, you should have at least done with a Baofeng multipin. Those are great for kit use! Either way, glad you found something you like.

Got mine about a week ago. I have not experienced any of the firmware bugs/glitches others have mentioned, though I can definitely see room for improvement. First impression is mixed. I think the most frustrating thing for me is the design of the mode switch and power/volume knob. While I was able to tighten the power/volume knob and at least slightly mitigate the issue of it moving unintentionally, the mode switch beneath it is definitely a problem. A couple of strips of tape seems to be keeping this issue at bay for now but its irritating. I am in the process of doing some more in depth testing in field conditions. I am curious about your vehicle interface. Are you planning to do a video on your vehicle mounted comms soon?

So, your firmware doesn't have the glitches like I have shown in other videos on this radio? Interesting!
