I try to tell the young ladies, please DO NOT have a sexual relationship with a man that will not marry you/support the children. This is throwing women and children into a vicious never ending cycle of poverty. I’ve had relatives do this (we are white). I have a niece who had three kids with three different dads, out of wedlock. They have struggled even with relatives trying to help. This woman that they have featured will probably die too early because of the stress.

Thank the govt for this crisis. If section 8 held tenants accountable for their lifestyles, more landlords would be willing to rent. But tenants are free to destroy properties, run drugs, gangs and prostitution in the rental units, invite others to live there, pets when not allowed. It is nearly impossible to evict bad tenants. Every expense is placed on the landlord to repair and evict. Plus all of the hoops the landlord must jump thru to get approved. They lose money waiting for approvals. And section 8 sometimes doesnt pay right away when a tenant moves in. Non voucher tenants pay upfront. And can be evicted easier The best solution is for the govt to build, own and manage low income housing. But they wont. And if they did, the tenants would all be living in slums

@Jazzy J, It's good that you are back on your feet. Section 8 over time has gotten a bad rap. It's one of those situations where the actions of a few make it bad for many. Not to mention, that the organizations that administer the program are inefficient and understaffed, leading to both property owners and voucher holders being frustrated with the program. The gist of it is people NEED housing regardless of their ability to pay.

If section 8 agrees to an end of tenancy inspection to assure exiting tenants don't leave the unit destroyed, before moving onto the next house would make all the difference. No one is talking about bow section 8 is failing landlords left with tens of thousands in damages, while their tenant arent held accountable by section 8. Sueing doesnt matter, because tenants claim hardship and Landlords are left using their home owners insurance then slammed with a higher rate. Section 8, you want us to trust, revamp your policies to protect Landlords, who would like to keep rentals on the market for your recipients.

You're right. My aunt was asked to put her 2 bedroom house on section 8. 18 months later, the house is a wreck. It had brand new carpet. Never been lived on. It's ruined. We've tried to clean it. No good. Door facings are going to have to be replaced. And an entire bathroom window. All beside the cleaning. Section 8 agreed to inspect bi monthly. They didn't. Now appraised at almost $5000 in damages. Section 8 takes no responsibility. NO one should ever rent to section 8 housing. They screw the landlord over. In fact they never paid my aunt their part of the deposit. That would have helped with a few repairs anyway.

Let’s be honest. There are way too many able bodied people on Section 8. They need to give them a 5 year limit and tell them that can never ever get on the program ever again unless they are elderly and really struggling. Being lazy is not a very good reason to be on Section 8. They also need to cut food stamps off after a certain amount of kids also. After 2-3 kids, there is no extra money. After 2-3 kids, there is no Section 8. Limitations need to be put in place to deter people from continuing to do foolishness. There are other people who also need help but those who have been in the system for decades are taking away opportunities from other people. If they damage anyone’s property, they will be completely kicked out of the program. It’s just that simple.

Yeah but you can get a regular renter who's not on a section 8 that'll give you hell and they can stay there for 2 years with the way these laws go. So I'd rather have somebody in the house than to have an empty and stand a chance of somebody ripping your pipes out of your home. A rug that could be replaced door jams that could be replaced. I would take section 8 hands down. I would just make sure section 8 paid a higher security deposit there's no way I would take section 8 without a security deposit they would have to pay double the rent. If your rent is $1200 they would have to pay $2,400 security deposit. That should take care of everything. Most of the time landlords put cheap carpet in there anyway. I know my mother rented to section 8 and she never put expensive plush carpet in the house rule of thumb

The vast majority of landlords don’t want anything to do with section 8. However, it’s not for the reasons you think. The biggest reason is the red tape bureaucracy of HUD and the extremely low payments and rent guidelines they use. What landlord is going to rent to someone for thousands of dollars less a year when they can get market rate rents with someone who is gainfully employed with a good job and not surviving on the government. The inspections,Endless paperwork and delays have been a problem with this program since it was first developed in 1974.

America in general is in active economic collapse and some may even say third world country status. John Cranley, opted to displace citizens and create an affordable housing crisis, then he retracted once it was time for him to get out of office. It's is happening in every metropolitan area in America, the displacing of people-families. The west coast is experiencing it to such a degree, there's a long stretch of camps where people are living Unhoused. And those that have the means are moving across country. The government at the state and local level need to do More to ensuring housing for all the residents in their city, state, municipality, village, etc.

The problem there, of course, is that there are lots of people not on Section 8 who are also being priced out of housing.

I was in the Army so my entire family has access to some of my military benefits from banking and so forth. My cousin works on Wall Street so we have access to the stock market. We have a lot in medical care. I’m a Licensed Cosmetologist so they have access to a lot of hair care stuff. We have family who works for MTA so if I visit, I can move around NYC without having to pay for public transportation. We have some in construction so when we get houses, we have someone to help us fix them up. That’s why a strong family unit is needed to survive. I don’t want to hear any bogus excuses on life being hard because my family came to the states with a language barrier and we all still made it. No Section 8. No food stamps or any of that stuff. She has an older daughter. If they’re smart, they will do exactly what my family did. They will live together and pull their resources together and help each other out. My dad and I just had the conversation the other day about us not seeing daycare centers in Panamá. It’s because the kids are cared for by other family members. When my daughter lived with us, she didn’t have to worry about daycare for the kids because my husband and I watched them. She didn’t have to worry about food, toilet tissue or any of that because if we have she has. She lives in another state so whenever she gets her place. I’m going to do like I always do and clean her entire place and make sure it’s fully stocked. I do the decorations and all. My cousins and I bump ideas off of each other and I’m always doing crafts on a budget. I have no problems going to a thrift store and refurbishing things. I literally just took some colorful paper and decorated my dining table. Could I afford expensive decorations, yes but I’m a numbers person and my husband and I are trying to pay our house off faster.

Some of them have gotten off of section 8. They also presently have another person helping them as they hold down 2 jobs. Many companies like Merk are hiring many temps & these temp jobs do not have benefits. The rich can help their own. It’s hard for a poor person to help their family. @@biblegirl2980 don’t blame immigration whatsoever. Those people aren’t even allowed to be on Section 8 whatsoever and they are coming from countries that don’t have food stamps, Section 8 or any of that foolishness. They come to the states with language barriers and they still find ways to make it. My parents came here from another country. They were never ever on anyone’s Section 8. In Panamá, if you don’t work, you don’t eat. Period! There isn’t any FREE housing. There isn’t any food stamps or none of that. They need to stop complaining, stop having a whole bunch of kids, get their backsides out there and work. The military takes people at 18. Stop using useless excuses and blaming others who actually work hard for their failures in life. Section 8 should ONLY be a stepping stone, not a way of life for decades. That mess is beyond ridiculous.

Where I live, there are section 8 tenants, and they keep everyone up at night, with the noise and the loud music. They also damage other peoples property, steal packages that are delivered by delivery services and never clean up. There houses are usually the dirty ones on the block. Whenever it snows, they are the only ones on the block that don't shovel, or in the summer cut their grass. They have really brought down the area, and are openly resentful to the homeowners in the area. Their anger is scary, but unfortunately, this is the only type of tenant that their landlord rents to, although I know not everyone is like that. Also, he never checks on any of his properties, because if he did, he would realize what is going on. People have tried to talk to him, and he doesn't want to hear anything about it. Ms. L. Churchill
