This is not meant really to be a motivational video. All these “motivational videos” especially the ones that are seen on short form content are just quick dopamine boosts. I feel these should not be labeled as motivational videos but rather as disciplinary videos. This is because motivation will only get you so far while discipline will get you to your goal because you will be able to keep working towards it even without any sort of motivation.

Hello Charlie. I'm a self-taught game developer who recently have been struggling with my lack of progress in life. The knowledge shared in this video helped me realize how much growth pain have i been avoiding all these years. Every single time I'm faced with something new I should learn, my brain automatically begins to create distracting thoughts or negative emotions towards the subject. Just an example, i have been practicing with artificial intelligence to create more natural-looking enemies. During the experiment, I would either be extremely demotivated about doing it (which I had to fight the urge to procrastinate) or random discussions would pop up in my head to take my focus away. It's quite annoying how obvious doing the "thing" will be extremely beneficial for us, but our old self is aways there to fuck ourselves. Thanks mate for sharing this message in a clear way. The work keeps being difficult, but at least now i know how to fight it.

Btw, I did the exercise choosing a Plank (with scapula protraction which amplifies the difficulty and therefore pain) and here's what my brain whispered me with the associated emotion (smiley): - "Why are you doing that bro? That dumb, just stop.😑" - "That's hard... Are we done? 😫" - "Come on, that's enough!😡 " One thing I recognized is that those are the exact same 3 thoughts EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I do something I "hate" doing. For example: running, planks & cardio. It appears that "enduring" something slow and unexciting bores me to no end, especially if there's no purpose deep behind. For example, I used to think the same way for leg days, but I shifted my perspective telling me that "only real men have strong legs"(purpose) and since then, I do legs religiously. Anyway, thanks a lot for this exercise that put in light The Work I have to do. Let's slay that dragon.

There are many parallels between David Goggins' mindset and Charlies' video if anyone has ever read his books. The way I see success is the continual battle between good and evil. With evil representing resistance and the many ways it manifests itself in one's life and the good being the consistent betterment of oneself through work (work = resistance x effort) in order to align with the forces of good and be a net positive force on the world. We must be warriors against the threat of resistance and its manifestations. If Charlie caved to the forces of resistance and stayed the same he wouldn't be able to make amazing videos, share his god given talent with the world and be a force for good on the world as he is now.
