Love our Triangle Tubve.

We install Viessmann Vitodens and have had good luck. What type/brand heat exchanger is in the triangle tube? I worked for a company and we installed a ton of the Triangle tube Solos and prestige’s back in the day. The Vitodens also have the feet above sea level setting and takes care of figuring out fuel mixing no mixing screw or zero governor setting to mess with.

Baxi boiler -Supply and Install New Baxi 40GA gas fired combination boiler with heat and hot water. Hi, can you please compare these 2 products? I am installing a new furnace in ME and need to choose between this Baxi and a Triangle Tube INSFS155S.

Never heard of Baxi but looks like they're big / popular in the UK. We use triangle tube and have been very happy with them for the most part... combi boilers in general have more issues than regular boilers but the triangle tube combi at my house has been pretty reliable. I honestly can't put my finger on what or why some people have issues with them but seems like water quality plays into how the valve that switches between hot water and space heating (3 way valve)

What yearly maintenance would you recommend to be conducted on the Triangle Tube boilers ?

Replace it with a cast iron… jk 😁 lol had a few experiences with the combi boilers recently that makes me have less faith in the combi setup, I think it’s more due to water quality issues but the Solos seem to be more reliable as we’ve not had issues with them (heating only boilerd, no domestic hot water). Big thing is just check for error codes to make sure it’s running properly because they’ll start to have misfire error codes if they’re running rich or lean for some reason or if the flame sensor / igniter rod isn’t working well. Sometimes you’ll have to clean out the heat exchanger every handful of years but when you do this it requires a gasket set to change all the gasket and is a fair amount of work. Every few years a fernox treatment is a good idea unless you’re running glycol which you should be with radiant floors, if that’s the case you don’t have to worry about fernox because Glycol has corrosion inhibitors in it that prevent corrosion and generally speaking my understanding is glycol is good for about 10 years or more before needing to be changed out. The fernox or DHW equivalent is important though on the combi circuit because it helps the switching valve (valve that switches between hot water and space heating) working well and rust free. Best thing you can do for it.

What’s the difference between an Instinct and a prestige? I love my prestige, but prices definitely went up on that model. Why is it so much more expensive? Can a Combi really be efficient? Wouldn’t it require temps higher than condensing? Is the instinct a modulating boiler with an outdoor reset?
@TheHVACDopeShowАй бұрын
Prices for installation have gone up the most because of overhead increases especially with insurance in our industry. It's kind of outrageous... honestly I don't like combi boilers and prefer something like the triangle tube solo or any cast-iron boiler. Combi seems to have issues with water quality and can be finicky sometimes. ironically, the most reliable one we've installed is at my house so I haven't had issues with them but I know our customers have had random issues with the three-way valve not switching between space heating and hot water and it's annoying for us to have service calls new systems

@@TheHVACDopeShow thank you! I think that I read that the instinct line uses cheaper plastic parts that can end up breaking and that the prestige solo is just a more solid and reliable unit. So I think the best plan would be to have an indirect water heater attached to a prestige solo, but I have never even done that myself either. Also, I would think that the efficiency would drop a lot when you need to make hot water around 120 F degrees. I would think the boiler temperature would need to be really hot at a point where most efficiency would be lost. Of course, that would still be more efficient than a standard water heater probably and also not require a chimney flue.Furthermore, I would think that efficiency would be even worse in the summer with your Boiler running year round just to make hot water. So I was thinking of also getting a heat pump water heater to make summertime hot water which would also keep the basement cool.

Put well over a dozen bosh greenstar combi boilers in. They have plastic parts in yhe bottom on the domestic side that break down over time resulting in a flooded basement. Disappointing. Installed 4 or 5 older triangle tube boilers and only had one heat exchanger fail in a dinner that uses a ton of hot water.

Yeah we’ve only had issues with the valve or sensor that switches between combi and heating on one unit, and it’s made us nervous but that house had particularly hard water

Our prestige triangle tube is a nightmare. Non stop issue. So many parts replaced but same issue exists. Plumber just keeps coming back over and over again and is baffled. There is not much left to replace. This is just after only 8 years. Would highly not recommend.

I’m sorry to hear that, have you looked into water quality and had a second opinion on the installation / piping? And was the altitude set at install during commissioning? There’s built in auto mixture control based on altitude that’s part of commissioning and if the primary loop isn’t piped properly you’ll have a lot of issues. What’s your primary issue that keeps happening? Do you have any error code? For what it’s worth I agree that cast iron are much more reliable that high efficiency boilers so we prefer them for that reason! Either way if you let us know the issue I’ll see if we can help

Sorry to hear that. I've had good luck with the instinct solo boilers. You've probably spent more on repairs than a new one would cost. What keeps breaking?

I have had a Prestige Solo 110 with an outdoor + water temp = 150 curve for like 12 years with literally no maintenance AFTER I corrected the errors of my professional installer. I had planned to add an indirect water heater but am selling the house instead and now want to put a ModCon in the new house. I am trying to understand the difference between the instinct and prestige lines and if we want a combi or not.
