Triangle wheeled bike - Burning Man 2012

Note that, while the wheels appear to bounce, the frame and rider don't bounce a millimeter. The wheels are in the shape of a Reuleaux triangle - a curve of constant width. The frame sits on top of the wheels, supported by rollers within the fenders.

This is a thing of beauty! Thank you for making and sharing. I had previously discussed with a friend of mine that Reuleaux triangles, while being impressive for their constant-width properties, were totally useless for application as a wheel because they have no point in their interior which maintains a constant altitude. But I'm delighted to see you've proved us wrong! Very clever your articulating fork ends and the horizontal sliders to support the bike frame upon the constant width of the wheels. How did you minimize friction?

Merritt it's not suspension that makes it stable. Since they always have a constant width, the wheels run against the fenders of the bike help keep it at a constant height. The things that look like suspension are just there to allow steering and the wheels to go up and down

There are ball bearing rollers withing the "fenders", allowing relative motion between the top of the wheels and the frame. However, the relatively small radius at the points of the wheels (which contact both the rollers and the ground each revolution) results in an irreducible level of friction.

@@qdaniele97 and because the friction between the wheel and the ground is always minimum in a single point - so less friction - more easy unlike these triangle wheels which seems to require a lot more force because of friction the fact that triangle rotating are kind of irregular when the wheel is just before a 'point' of the wheel (3 angles forming like a pic) and maybe the coordination of the two wheels (when the ground contact of one wheel is for instance between 2 angles and the other too)
