I looked into buying the entry level Roka wetsuit but unfortunately Roka was going to charge me almost half the cost again (after 20% discount) in taxes and shipping ($80 US to ship to Canada) with no option to pay the taxes at this end. I ended up going with Xterra (who ship from the US as well) and paying around $25 CAD. Roka are losing out on a lot of customers outside of the US. Maybe something they should be looking into.

I'm going to be honest, I'm not comfortable with the idea that a £275 wetsuit be recommended as a wetsuit for beginners when they don't even know for certain that they will want to continue with the sport. Is there a relationship with Roka? First wetsuits should cost no more than £200 at the very most, and there are plenty of good wetsuits out there at that price point or substantially below. It is also important to note that there are many good secondhand wetsuits flying around being sold by those who, as suggested above, did one or two races and decided it was not for them (or upgraded). Triathlon is an expensive sport as it is. Suggesting a £275 wetsuit is needed as a beginner just raises the financial barrier to entry and risks putting people off of trying our amazing sport.

@@arnoldd7073 You can get good wetsuits cheap on ebay, often only used once or twice. Even ones around £100 quid are pretty damn good these days (bearing in mind the swimmer is always the limiting factor). This is entirely why I am disappointed that he is pushing a relatively expensive suit as something that beginners should buy. If he had put beginners before sponsor money, he'd be pointing to ebay. Bear in mind we are talking about people who haven't even raced yet and don't know if they will like it.

you are totally right! training for my first triathlon right now. i found that most of the popular brands have clearance sales as new models are being introduced. picked up an entry level Synergy wetsuit (normally $225) for less than $125 with shipping. i'll spend the 'big bucks' if i continue on with the sport.

Nice video Taren. Just a suggestion to mention the cost of goods that you speak about being in CDN or US$. Us Canadians need to consider the $ exchange rate on goods only available through US sources.

I bought my first wetsuit. Unfortunately I'm in Florida, doesn't get used much. But love my Quintana Roo hydro 6. Soo comfy, when used lol

I just bought that Roka wetsuit. So stoked to use it. Is it a good idea to use in a pool to get used to it or should one only swim in a lake? Never used a wetsuit before

I have the same question

Definitely train in your wetsuit as often as you can. You can use it in the pool, but make sure to rinse it thoroughly after use because the chlorine can really damage the rubber after a while.

Pool with chlorine is no good for wetsuits. No good for surfing, scuba diving wetsuits so I dont think this is any different.

Im doing my first sprint triathlon in July. What are some good recommendations on triathlon trialing books?
@cinnamonflan1412 Жыл бұрын
I am terrible with chlorinated water so I just want to focus on open water swimming. I don’t plan to do a triathlon… but I want something comfortable.

Im in the same boat. I like the look on triathlon wetsuits such as the 2XU suits. But plan to use it for swimming only, not triathlon or surfing for that matter.
