I feel like the Xterra pricing game is super annoying. As a marketing ploy, it works but I typically tell people to avoid them.

How I wish... Unfortunately, they do not seem to sell those "Maverick" wetsuits in Europe 😒 The cheapest one they sell here is the "Maverick Comp II" for 475 EUR- which is more than 100 EUR more expensive than it was in 2018 when I bought it. Now the Zipper has broken (which was probably my bad) and I need a new one. I was very happy with my "Maverick Comp II". However, I will not pay more than 400 EUR for a wetsuit- that's definitely not worth it for me. I ordered a 2XU P1.

Super Exciting. I Managed to pick up one of these on release day with the MOTTIV/ Team Traniac ROKA discount for $180 USD. Super excited for when it arrives here in New Zealand so I can jump into the lake and get some open water training. Booked in for my first half Ironman in December then my first Full Ironman New Zealand in March 2022. Thanks Taren for all the amazing content, information, and training through this channel and MOTTIV. You're the main reason I signed up for my first full distance Ironman.

Really nice to have Roka release a wetsuit in this price range. However I'm gonna have to wait for non-sponsored reviews to really say how this fits in the market.

You're not wrong to be suspicious, but has Teran given a dishonest review previously? Most sponsored athletes only promote gear they like.
@WtfYoutube_YouSuck3 жыл бұрын
@@wilfdarr Taren does sponsored, paid advertisements and does not include proper and clear notification in the description that he is doing a paid, sponsored advertisement, rather than an unbiased review. Roka makes great stuff, but the lack of ethics in Taren's approach is sus, as he is known to push snake-oil products, supplements, and treatments for periods of time in which he is engaged in a brand deal, after which he immediately drops the products and never speaks of them again.
@wilfdarr3 жыл бұрын
@@WtfKZbin_YouSuck There's some truth in that, but judging something negative because he “never speaks of them again” is a fallacy: I probably WON'T ever buy ROKA simply because the branding is everywhere (I don't wear Adidas for the same reason). You give me a free wetsuit I'll rock it until another brand gives me a better free wetsuit. I'm certainly not going to pay to be your billboard. Want me to push it on my social media, you pay me to do so. I don't fault him for never speaking of a product again after his contract ends with them: this is how you create demand in your services as a product representative.

I just bought my first wetsuit last week, Roka Maverick Comp II. I did one OWS in it this week and it felt great, but I probably would have opted for the Maverick if it had been available since I am new to triathlon! Thanks for the review and all your videos!

Thank you! I was literally just reading Amazon reviews of the Xterra and Synergy suits when I got distracted and saw your video pop up. I didn't want to spend >$200 on a suit for my 2nd Tri sprint... but I'll gladly spend a little more with your validation. I wasn't getting the warm fuzzies about Synergy. My Roka Maverick should be here next week just as the temperatures begin to drop!

Flotation=Awesome Flex=Awesome Fit= this is very personal: a wet suit cut that fits one person extremely well may very well not fit another person at all. I'm glad it fits you well, and for that price it's worth looking into, but for another hundred you can get tailored suits cut for you personally: no way in H E double hockey sticks will I ever pay a grand for a wetsuit!
@wilfdarr3 жыл бұрын
I might have to take that back: they have 3 different cuts in 5 different sizes, 10 different patterns in all, there's a high chance they've got one for everyone.

I’m surprised Roka did anything with their wetsuits. Kind of figured they threw in the towel on the triathlon equipment game and only worried about sunglasses / glasses.
@trepidati0n5333 жыл бұрын
They have the wetsuit market pretty locked up....nobody was actually really going after them so the need to innovate was there. Their top tier wetsuits are just great...period. So, they go after another market full of mediocrity and disrupt it. The true entry level wetsuit mark is pure mediocrity at best and they are doing what they always do...disrupt.

Hi Taren! Question for you... I am on the upper end of a beginner triathlete (70.3 swim = 30 minutes) and training for my first full (California where I'll need a wetsuit). Would you recommend something like this for a more experienced athlete as well? Or is there more of a benefit for an experienced swimmer in their mid/upper end suits?

Cant find a temp rating. Any idea how low this can go?
@wilfdarr3 жыл бұрын
How hard are you swimming? Most companies don't want to put a temperature rating on because different people have different tolerance to cold and generate different levels of heat. For this reason they'll usually tell you how thick the neoprene is (2mm, 3mm, 5mm etc) and let you decide what thickness you need for each event. Calgary Canada in the spring I should have a 6mm suit (I suffer in 5mm because I'm cheap!) But I'm the summer I'm in a 3mm shortie, but again, that's just me. I have friends who swim 4mm in the spring and 3mm long in the summer (larger body type keeps them warmer in the spring, not as sensitive to the cold water, but because they're not as fit they're not generating the heat that I am in the summer). Hope that explanation helps.
