I’m sitting here with my husband trying to figure out why watching someone do a simulated bike ride for almost 20 mins was entertaining and yet we couldn’t stop watching. P.S. I really want to go ride now

I’m amazed that you are able to keep your heart rate at 170 or less for 270 watts. You are insane man! Great job. I hit 250 and I’m 186 and just wanna die.

Ahah, I just found this video thanks to a KZbin suggestion.I was not racing or trying to keep up with T. Taren, I was following a Xert workout which had me pace about the same as Taren, only pure coincidence ! I didn't know about the channel, but I just subscribed :-) Oh and it's funny to see me climbing out of the saddle as I did 99% of it in the saddle.

Proof (if it's not on Strava...): www.strava.com/activities/1478145444 :-) But as I said, it was a workout so I didn't feel the gradient of the climb, I was spinning most of the time instead of grinding on these 10-11% slopes.

How do you get that side view minimap and the map below? All I see on my Zwift is 1 minimap that has 3 options to view from above.

I can relate to the first 30 seconds of this video... 1 hour Z2 bike and a 1 hour swim got canned in favour of an all out assault on Alpe Du Zwift

You didn’t drink any water during that whole bit? Were you already hydrated prior? Seems dangerous? Maybe I’m just uneducated.

Does your trainer switch the gears for you or are you switching the gears? Or am I mixing this up with resistance to mimic slope/elevation? Would rollers work similar?

The trainer provides resistance to mimic things, yes. Rollers don't have that ability, so you wouldn't get the same kind of workout.

@@TriathlonTaren actually smart rollers, Arion's for example, vary resistance according to pitch on zwift, trainer road, etc.

What intensity setting do you have zwift on? Default is 50% of the gradient and only found out about this the other week. Now on full 100% and the Epic KOM was bad, can't wait to see what this is like!

Really wish you hadn't reminded me of this setting before I popped my Alpe cherry :-D Hey @Taren, this setting is commonly misunderstood (eg by me) and might make for a good Zwift topic to cover?

Rory Macdonald sorry Rory I thought my winter training was going well until I got out on the road and went up to some proper 14% climbs and realised that they were a damn sight harder than on Zwift.

There is a good article about this on the Zwift Insider site. As far as I understand it, the difficulty setting affects the gears you use, but not the power you need. So you’ll still be doing 300 watts, just in the 28 gear instead of 14, etc. zwiftinsider.com/using-the-trainer-difficulty-setting-in-zwift/

I made the mistake of riding up with an 11/23 and full difficulty on zwift. I had an average climbing rpm of 55 :/

yes, I agree, and proved it to myself. At 50% setting, i found that i wasnt using my easier gears at all, when I put it to 100% i felt that I needed the easier gears for the climbs.

I think you'd be on a lower cadence. You should try again 70 ish. And 60 wouldn't be unusual!

46.22 average 320/315Watts 72 kgs 👍rode real course 2 years ago full distance 58 mins 95f .. and a few beers night before 🍺🍺🍺 carbs lol..would hope to do better next time (43 old guy) 👍 keep pushing , keep smashing it 🚵🏽‍♀️🚵🏽‍♀️🏆
