I'd never heard of chicken steak either, but I do recognize what they're eating as typical food like I had growing up in suburban Virginia--grilled chicken breast with a bit of sauce or glaze, and some veggies. We probably had something like that at least once or twice a week (usually with Rice-a-Roni or something like it, lol the 80s) and I still make it pretty often now. We never called it chicken steak, just chicken, but the name makes sense--steak usually refers to beef, but it can be any thick piece of good-quality meat, like a tuna steak or a lamb steak. And a bit of googling turns up recipes for it from India and Pakistan that refer to it as an American dish. Which it is! They probably just added steak to the name because it sounds more American that way, like how they call chicken sandwiches chicken burgers.
@tatiannazutania77513 жыл бұрын
This was my family too. Healthy meals with plenty of veggies. I still love Rice-a-Roni. I made it a lot for my kids. I often add leftover meat and vegetables to it to make a new main dish. I was raised to NEVER waste food. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. Happy New Year!!!

It should be "Chicken Fried Steak". The dish presented to the villagers is totally incorrect and has nothing to do with the actual dish. I understand that there are dietary restrictions for these villagers, however, if the presenter is going to serve them an alternate food item, they need to explain why it is different and not the authentic dish. I find many inconsistencies in these food presentations and the villagers (rightfully so) either dislike the sish or do no have a full understanding of what and why they are eating.

Chicken fried steak is cube steak, (beef tenderized), floured and fried in oil for only minutes...very quick to cook. Served with gravy, green beans, mashed potatoes, and a roll

It's usually called a chicken cutlet in the USA. It's also used a lot in Italy in various dishes like Milanese.

The chicken steak looked tasty. I have bought similar at some supermarkets, though they often use frozen vegetables, making them mushy. Fresh steamed veggies are better. How was this made? Was it a butterflied chicken breast? For a similar-sounding dish, there is "chicken-fried" steak, which is a slice of beef pounded thin, then breaded & fried like chicken, and served with gravy and a biscuit. It is a way to use cheaper cuts of meat. The tribal folks could probably use goat, camel, or mutton, if those are cheaper than beef.

Americans have made chicken fried steak usually in flour gravy. Its chicken fried in flour coating like people fry a beef steak.
