@Trazyn I see what you mean, but since it's a vegetable they're very familiar with, I'm sure they could use the leftover pieces in a curry or in one of the other dishes they were all talking about, when they realized what it was. I've only done the steaks once before and I used the leftover pieces for cauliflower cheese soup! It's delicious with a rich, nutty style of cheese like gruyer or even a smoked gouda! 😊

@@Trazynn Well, in that case, I hope he made something wonderful with the extras and donated it to a soup kitchen! I'm assuming that the bride's (or groom's) parents paid the chef for the cost of the meals that were served, based on what he knew the ingredients would cost him per person... so I can't imagine that he was out any money. If the chef didn't do the proper investigation into what the entire feast would cost him, BEFORE he agreed on the price for the food, then I guess he learned a very valuable lesson and he won't do that again. 🙏🕊️

From the translation, it sounded like the word "phool" means flower in Punjabi. (I believe that's the language they're speaking?) If that's the case, I do wish the producer had explained that the English name contains the word "flower" as well. I think they would have found the similarity in the two languages, quite fascinating! Especially, Tahir! 😉☺️ The "steaks" looked perfectly done as well! They were firm enough to hold their shape, yet just as tender, as they're used to their veggies being cooked! Excellent job, chef! (as always!) 😊🙏🏻💛

True, a lot of foods (and other things) are used by various countries (such as taxi, for example) as what is known as "borrowed/universal" words! 😊
@felicityc
@felicityc Жыл бұрын
yes, phul means flower in punjabi. However, cauliflower is a recent invention, only going back a few hundred years (probably cyprus in early middle ages). It's a genetically designed version of cabbage (that is, bred for nutrients). So I believe the name came first and was directly translated in many cases. Ghobi means cabbage, so Phul ghobi means cabbage flower or flower cabbage. There is no particular reason to call something a flower cabbage unless it was introduced with that name. (It was introduced in Latin also as cabbage flower, but that was a given name rather than a traditional name). Cauliflower did not grow in the wild before that.
@felicityc
@felicityc Жыл бұрын
As well, phonetically 'ful' is similar to 'gul' and is only one consonant shift, and 'gul' is also flower in other nearby languages. So 'ful' and 'gul' are essentially the same word. In Latin, it's flos(a), and you can track the shift into other latin languages which all likely got it from the same indo-european ancestor which also descended the 'ful' to mean 'flower' in general. (french: fleur, spanish: flor). You can see the striking difference from how similar and single consonant or syllable shifted all of those words are, and then you can look at 'flower' in a completely different language group, Arabic, which is ورد: Waruda, which is literally nothing like any of those other languages. Really, that those languages are so far away and have so many similarities is wonderful to see in a practical sense :) we truly come from the same sorts of people, and became so different. In proto-Indo European it's understood that 'bhlos' was the word for flower, which can explain, with simple consonant shifts, how we ended up at ful, gul, flos, etc. Simple words like this are really good for seeing how languages change but keep similar formats.

Do they speak Urdu?
@bobbiejojackson9448
@bobbiejojackson9448 9 ай бұрын
@@karenwhaley8635 I believe that they speak Punjabi and Urdu. From what I've read and heard here and on some of the other Pakistani tribal channels, both languages would likely be spoken because every province has it's own "regional" language and/or dialect. And since it would be very difficult for people in the different provinces to learn every one of them, Urdu was adopted as a kind of universal or official language across much of the country. With the exception of Gul Sher Khan, the other three gentlemen are from a rural village (or two?) in Punjab Province. The city of Lahore, where the studio is located, is also in Punjab. GSK has mentioned that he's from Balochistan Province, (which is quite a distance away from Lahore) so he most likely speaks Balochi and Urdu. I hope all of that made sense. 😉 It's a bit past my normal bedtime. 😴😆

I just watched the Mr. Chaudhary video where he gets given a new refrigerator and shows us his newly renovated kitchen. I also saw a previous video where he shows us through his house. It appears to me that its a solid home, but also that its seriously liable to damage from an earthquake, and they live in a zone where earthquakes are a big risk - look at the damage that has happened in Turkey and northern Syria recently. I wouldn't like to see them move from their home, and I wouldn't like to see them harmed by a quake, so could the producers see to it that their home gets strengthened to withstand one? Pretty please??

I keep hearing a word or phrase, but it has many different translations in the subtitles (wow, excellent, amazing, etc). It's at 5:47 - 5:48 and it sounds like kyah-bah-dah or kah-bah-dah (I've heard both, not sure if they mean mean slightly different things). Can you give me a direct, literal translation of it? (I'm trying to learn some of the language, supplementing my studies with these videos and movies) My efforts to look it up have been unsuccessful.

I eat cauliflower when I am on the keto diet. You can mince it to mimic rice and it's an excellent substitution.

Try it roasted, you might like it that way. Most people over or under cook cauliflower boiling it.

Don't boil! That is the "poor man's" way to eat it. Roasted or grilled, for sure.
