They all seemed to love it, from what I was watching. And you have to remember that it's a small miracle that they could even get the ingredients for a sandwich like this! They don't exactly have a corner deli that they can pop into and pick up a pound of corned beef and fresh sauerkraut! I would assume that the chef had to make the corned beef himself... and probably the rest of the ingredients as well. They're in Pakistan, not Manhattan! Given the difficulty of making corned beef alone, I'd say they pulled this one off beautifully!

@bobbiejojackson94482 жыл бұрын
@@dmotta2811 Don't show what? The video? The thumbnail? Wow. Y'all really don't get it, do you? I mean, what these channels are all about. These are extremely poor people from very remote villages and maybe one or two from small cities - in a 2nd world (maybe even closer to 3rd world) country. They barely have access to clean drinking water, indoor plumbing or electricity! The "chef" they have is probably a retired cook from one of the larger (but certainly not big) cities like Lahore or Karachi. He probably worked in a small restaurant in a hotel for most of his career - and I'm not talking about a 3-star Michelin restaurant. And when I say hotel, I don't mean the Ritz Carlton or the Waldorf Astoria, either. Maybe do a little brushing up on what and who y'all are watching before y'all start judging and criticizing them or their lives! What exactly do you expect from this channel? They have limited access to the kinds of food or ingredients and even kitchen utensils and appliances that even the poor in 1st world countries have available to them. They also have strict dietary restrictions because of their faith and that's especially true when it comes to meat. Everything has to be halal certified, which if you're not familiar with, it's similar to kosher certified foods that Orthodox Jews are allowed to eat. If you have a problem with the pictures they use in their thumbnails not matching the dishes they're served, well then that's pretty damned petty IMHO. That's certainly not what this channel or the others like it are about. It's all about learning and understanding each other's cultures and traditions. It's about building bridges, not judging people or how they live. If you want 4 star culinary content, maybe you'd get more enjoyment out of watching reruns of Master Chef or the Food Network! 🤦🏼♀️

The meat is called “corned” beef, referring to the corn shaped granules of salt and saltpeter used to cure and preserve the meat. Using saltpeter to preserve meat was common all over the world, but the corned beef we eat today mostly originated in England and Ireland in the 18th Century and was a way to get meat into the bellies of soldiers before it could spoil. The sauce is called Russian Dressing in the US, but at least half of restaurants use a similar salad dressing they already have called Thousand Island dressing. But people should make their own Russian, it’s easy. The secret is adding a couple spoonfuls of fresh squeezed orange juice. The Rueben also must contain sauerkraut, a fermented mix of cabbages left to sit for 21 days.

Wow! They all got the magic of the Ruben right away: the Thousand Island dressing. And I love how half way through this episode, at the 4:12 marker, Gul Sher takes his first big bite, with that kingly black mustache bobbing up and down as he chews, staring at the sandwich curious and intense, trying to figure out what ingredients he tastes. Then he looks straight into the camera, realizes all of the tastes at once, and then his head jolts with a little face-dance of pleasant surprise from its unexpected flavors and textures. Those combinations are what makes a Ruben sandwich one of my very favorites. And I'm sure that Mr. Gul Sher has never even imagined the spicy flavor of a heap of juicy thin slices of corned beef, or the sweet and tangy creaminess of thousand island dressing, or even the chewy savory muskiness of good rye bread with its' caraway seeds (he always enjoys the seeds) - and then the melted Swiss cheese over the sauerkraut "Wow!" that must have blown his mind. What a delightful dancing facial expression he made right at that moment: so surprised, yet still majestic. He looks truly like the quintessential Pakistani Baloch lord straight out of some ancient Indian painting. Also, Nara's English is getting pretty darned good.

The red meat is called "corned" beef. It's raw beef marinated in a substance for about three days which changes it's color to stay red even when cooked afterwards. For cutting into slices for sandwiches it's usually baked in an oven. The other way we eat it is to simmer in water a long time with cabbage, potatoes, carrots, and onions, then eat it cut into whatever size of a piece of meat we want. It's usually simmered with a bit of pickling spices & herbs like we would use for cucumber pickles.

I need a kosher dill pickle with mine. Now I know what i'm having for lunch. I think these things are approachable to everyone, just have to learn how to make it. Be creative with your traditional foods and create new dishes and we can try making those where we live.

A Rueben usually has sauerkraut. Did their sandwiches have that? Is that why they’re saying onion and sour? Sauerkraut is an acquired taste. I love it.

I enjoy these videos so much! It would be great if viewers could have more details about what exactly is being served. Often there are side sauces that are never described, and sometimes ingredients are changed due to availability and the diets of the "tryers".

I wonder how they would react to a bratwurst on a roll, with sauerkraut, onions, and coarse ground mustard. One of my favorites.

This makes me want a New Yorker from Miracle Mile deli which is corned beef and and pastrami on marbled rye bread with cole slaw and 1000 island dressing on it. It’s the ultimate version of the Rueben. It’s so big, one sandwich can feed two people.

I'm glad they enjoyed this. I have enjoyed it since I was a young boy. This was what I would consider the first "adult" sandwich I ordered for myself. I felt so mature 😋

A good Ruben sandwich includes corned beef, rye bread, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, thousand island dressing, and a lot of people like to fry them on a grill like a grilled cheese sandwich. They’re really good and popular here in the US. Another sandwich that is similar is called a turkey Ruben. a turkey Ruben includes usually white bread along with turkey, coleslaw, Swiss cheese, and also thousand island dressing but a lot of people like to just keep it off and eat without any dressing. The coleslaw itself usually is enough to take the place of dressing.

Corned beef cooks in a couple of hours not days. The sandwich needs a condensed hearty bread like Jewish rye, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, Russian or thousand island dressing and plenty of corned beef. The Rueban is my all time favorite sandwich.

Where do you get your recipes for some of these sandwiches? It's too bad you can't have the corn beef that's original to the Ruben. It's also made with Sauerkraut and the sandwiches are always cut
