🥒 ABOUT BEFRS:
Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but currently call Vietnam home. I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.
If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.

for all those curious, the dish blowing them away at 2:21:12 is called "khâu nhục" in Vietnamese. As a Nung, I often have it at Tet, on some special occasions such as weddings, and big birthday parties for the elderly. As you saw in the video, the process of making took quite a lot of labor, but the taste did worth it.

When I moved to Charlotte NC in the mid 90s, Charlotte was a resettlement area for Hmong people. I had never heard of Hmong until then. I met many great people and indulged in the delicious food. Ever since then, I've been a tremendous fan of Vietnamese cuisine and customs. I truly appreciate different cultures, as a woman of Haitian descent. More Americans need to expand their knowledge and pallettes.

Thanks for teaching me about the food I was offered in a Hmong village, travelling SEA, 12 years ago. I have so much respect for their way of cooking and making sure to appreciate all parts of the animals. I remember taking a spoon of that dark gastric soup (tasted like dirty muddy water) and seeing lots of skin and hair of the pig in the dishes. I’ve had a lot of weird foods in my life growing up as an Asian, but this feast was quite something to remember! And don’t worry about being called fat, my 44 kg body has also been called fat, they said “you can tell that she’s from Europe, she have some more meat on her” 😂Great show, always keeps me smiling 😊

It’s not just food. It’s an experience it’s love it’s vibes it’s shining a light on beauty all over the world. We all bond in some ways. This is his way of learning and bonding. Food is for the soul yes. But he’s showing different ways of food can connect the human race. Perfect example of not judging a book by its cover. Even when he scared he try’s it out of respect for whatever place he visited. His passion is so pure that he probably doesn’t even see how much we look past the food this is art in motion

Lol I have the exact same issue watching this show, every time I'm watching the food get prepared, or cooked, or served I get so hungry! So to make sure I'm not completely undermining all my efforts of losing weight by starting to binge eat again while watching the show, I've only been watching when I'm already supposed to eat anyway :D

The ethnic groups could basically be divided into two groups, the Tai and the Hmong. The Thai, Tay, and Nung are essentially branches of the same race, the Tai. They are culturally and ethnically similar, and their languages even have intelligibility in contrast to the Hmong, who are completely different

I’m half Vietnamese, I’ve been to Vietnam one time so far I’m only 21, and I did try a lot of food there. BUT, Just so you know Americans stomachs aren’t meant for their food, they have bacteria in their food that can quite literally kill us, their stomachs are made for it because they’ve been eating like that since birth, they have natural good bacteria to fight off the harmful bacteria. So you should never just go to any foreign country and eat whatever, our food preparations are completely different. 👍🏼

@@panelsm7933 yup...also, anyone (the OP) who makes a comment that even subtly talks shit about another persons race/skin color, i.e. "the white guy" is an idiot and the reason why race relations are so bad. Replace the word "white" with any other race/religion/skin color and ask yourself would you say it. In 2021 "white people" are taking so much shit for nothing, stfu.

@@panelsm7933 yes!! My dad ordered a smoothie when we went to Vietnam because it looked soooo good and he just needed it lol. Well, turns out they literally used ice from a river to make it 😭😂, they just eat different and it’s not made for our weak stomachs. He ended up getting severely sick and could have passed. So yes 👍🏼 I completely agree with you!

@@kickballfever Our Hmong people are deeply rooted with the Chinese in the beginning of time in China. We don't have that many different type of dishes like other Asian races in Asia other then what you seen here. We don't have a country, if we have our ways we prefer living in the highlands/mountains. We are dispersed all over the world after the Vietnam war which we fought along side the U.S, hence why we get to come to the U.S as refugee because our people were persecuted after the U.S pulled out. You can say the U S owe big debt to our people, we lost hundreds of thousands of lives assisting the u.s.
