I agree that she needed it. The family is so loving and beautiful. The western way, is not the only way to be in this world, and a simple life of family, friends, and community, is something that I think many people would benefit from, me included!

2019 anyone, lol? This was an amazing documentary! Barbara is a natural beautiful woman. When sitting in garden she seemed pretty and also very wise. 45:20 when Daddy accepted her into his tribe, I actually teared up. Very lovely video, thank you! Blessings to you Becky. I hope you’re well and rediscovered your self-worth and purpose here on earth!

Oh my how I wish I could do something like this. My stepfather was from Nigeria and I learned new foods, words, culture and so much more. We as people should always embrace different cultures and people I love to learn. Definitely teach it to my child.🤗🤗 I traveled to Germany all alone could not speak German of course and had the pleasure of meeting a nice Turkish gentleman that helped me to read and understand. Kind person to an African American girl and made sure I found my family. When others passed me by. People are awesome still.😘😎

Completely agree. There is no shortage of naysayers on the comments for this video. Apparently she was rude, should never have left her country, and didn't adapt to their customs??? We must have been watching two completely different videos. I thought she did exceptionally well. There were a few hiccups in the beginning, but how is that not to expected? I would go beyond saying she did well. I think she kicked serious ass there. She did adapt, she tried to learn some of the language, she engaged and befriended people there, she took part in a lot of the activities, and she conquered some of her own demons. I'm really not sure how she could have done any better, bar staying and truly becoming a part of the tribe. I spent many years on the road and in the bush in neighboring Indonesia (including Papua). They are seriously amazing people. And I was impressed with Becky.

I bet if her job told her to go to a meeting she would go no matter where it is or what it represents. You go to church, you listen to the service, you glean what you think is important and dang you go home. You don't insult your host and your boss would tell you to find another job...it is your priorities...you are trying to free those that don't need to be freed, they have the beliefs, so why should they change to yours. spoiled, spoiled...

She had daddy problems (trust issues) and that's why her relationship with men was never a good experience. She thought there was something wrong with her and that's why she was always being rejected. In reality she didn't expect much from a man and felt they were never going to stick around long anyway. She got to have a special daddy who honored her and respected her. He gave her a special gift he had made himself. He could scold as well as lift her up. I know these people really loved her and it wasn't a love that people usually barter for. She learned to respect and accept them as she did them. It's hard for modern cultures to accept love from others due to past hurts and pain. I hope she has grown mentally and spiritually by this experience. They haven't been corrupted by society. They truly are lovely people. ❤🙏🕊

Becky is a very beautiful, kind, sweet woman. I wish we've known each other. Could call her very fortunate to experience & embrace the unique culture of these tribal people. They are very loving, generous, kind, protective people & they live in a place called "paradise" which is so damn true. I live to work in the beautiful city of Port Moresby where all expatriates of different nationalities meet. This country is so rich in natural resources & you'll enjoy their coral seas, virgin islands & the warmth treatments of the locals are so genuine beyond compare. They are under British Colony & the Queen loves them. When I left the place I was also very nostalgic & broken hearted I could cry. Thanks a lot to my local employer (Morea Ray, Emily & family ) for the wonderful job you gave me & the sincere love so worth living for. I wish that one day we'll have the chance to see each other again

Thanks for the documentary, and for Becky who tried to be herself in the situation, had she conformed we would rather have missed a great deal of the confusion we are in as humans. Lesson: We cherish love and demand individuality, on the other hand love demands sacrifices to those we are related to. Such communities are just like a coherent bee hive, if separated individuals can produce but would never be the same type of honey.

How u were able to not long for gadgets like phone, internet is still a puzzle I can't imagine not to talk of life's comfort like sleeping on a comfy bed to mat on bare floor with no electricity , I just can't imagine it but in total u are good in all the way u comport urself during ur stay, I just like & love u

I loved this story. The love, support and nurture she received was amazing. This is what she needed to be free of the hurt and pain that she was going through emotionally. She went there to find answers and that’s exactly what she got. If only all could love and support as these people have. What a different world it would be.

I am from PNG, but another part of the Country. Kitava is an island in the Trobriand Group, Milne Bay Province of PNG. These people are very friendly as displayed in the video. The nature and character of these people are for real. I hope Becky had not come to Kitava just to satisfy her whims and inadequacies in her modern English society. She can only be real if can reciprocate by keeping in touch with these people, and maybe revisit them again.

@@cundie1 Why not? That would defeat the purpose of a follow up. Also, I didn't find anything wrong with Becky, either. Did she insist on having her way? Did she offend anybody there, and if so, how? Have you ever been to a new country for you, and if so, did you feel a bit out of place, because you were trying to make sure you did or said the right things to any new acquaintances? I didn't hear anything offensive coming from her. She may have felt a little awkward at times, but that's normal.

When I turned 16 I was trapped with my abuser and my life was in shambles. I got a job and tried saving money, I planned to pack a backpack and buy a ticket out of Philadelphia, to any city. I wanted to leave and find myself on an island like this❤️ but my abuser introduced me to heroin and got me pregnant. I ended up staying with family and raising my daughter until I went on my own with her. I never made it out of Philadelphia. Life isn’t want I accepted but that daughter is now 16, and I had 3 other children, own my home and in a healthy relationship. But I wonder how my life would have been if I made it to some beautiful island with beautiful people. Sorry for the story.

She was incredibly resistant at first, but I think she settled into the family well. She was really close to her adoptive family, including her 'Dad" Seti. She adheres to the dress code, learns skills, has heart-to-hearts with her 'sister', babysits the 2 year old, Susan, and even gets their ancestral name. She learned, which is what they were trying to do. Don't be too hard on her. I would likely have been very hesitant at first. Not everyone on these shows is capable of letting themselves completely go from the beginning.

I love your reply, and I honestly love this video and the way Becky grew during her stay. I've been reading through the comments, and it's really disgusting how people are reacting to her just because of the first maybe 10-15 minutes of the video. It truly displays how we as humans tend to look down on others disregarding the fact that we ourselves are capable of behaving the same way. Thank you so much for your comment, it really calmed me.

Eunice Galamue I agree with you. People don't seem to understand that the premise of the show is to see the transformation and growth of a person experiencing another culture. I think Becky was very brave to leave everything she knew and obviously she was open to it even to take it on in the first place. It's easy to sit at your computer and make stupid hateful comments. At the end it is very touching and it is obvious that they all became very close.
