2:35 you're using the tire lever the wrong way though, that little hook thing grabs onto the spokes so you can keep going around the tire, makes it so much easier and the added pressure it creates really helps speed up the process! you'll also notice the side with the hook is thicker than the other side, so the other side would be easier to slide into the tire.

Great video, should ease some fears!haha. I've been a mechanic in bike stores for 15 years and I've been working here in nl in a decathlon for the last 3. I can confidently say that there are no problems with these tyres with these rims, also on 500 / 520. I change them day in an day out without problems, best tip I can give is when removing start furthest from the valve and when re fitting start closest to the vavle an last bit you should put on is furthest away, also I always fit without levers a gamble as you clearly state, an for me not one I'd take. I know what you say about plastic levers but I'd really recommend them , either the yellow ones from decathlon or the blue park tools ones ( neither ever snapped with daily use though the park tools did tend to soften out over time). As for the tyre upgrade on my old 120 I fitted the 38c tyre from the Riverside bike at decathlon and they were a hoot. I now have the 520 and I'm running 650b with 42c tyres. Finally your better than 90 percent of my customers at changing a tyre👍

As a little update on this, I bought one of these bikes it arrived yesterday, had one ride on a local trail and swapped the tyres out today, absolutely no problem getting the tyres off, could almost do it without levers, so don't worry that it will be an issue. I put gravelking 38c on and there is plenty of room could probably have gone bigger, don't hesitate this is a great value bike.

Good job changing that, considering it's always more difficult outside. I broke a plastic lever the other week. Not really an issue because it was in my house, but I'd always take my metal Lezyne ones on a ride. Some tyre and wheel combos are an absolute nightmare to change. I can't remember the make of the rim, but my commuting bike is helluva tough to get that last inch of bead back over the rim. Impossible in the cold and wet. I ended up having to get a tyre jack. Easiest tyres I've changed were Vittoria Diamante Pros on Mavic Open Pro rims. I could simply rip those off without even using levers 😂
@51North
@51North 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, tyre changing in the cold and wet can be practically impossible. Good to hear you have the metal levers, if you break a plastic one, it's possible to use the lever part of a QR skewer, but if that snaps too, you are rhubarbed!

Great Video! thanks, mate. I've had concerns about buying the triban 520 due to the same issue with the tyres/wheelset, but not any more thanks to this awesome video!! Btw you should use the other end of the lever to remove the tyre, this little notch is supposed to be hooked to the spokes to keep one lever in place while using the other one.

Changing those standard triban tyre aren't that difficult to be frank but I find those original tyre are a little slippery so I upgraded it to 700x32 Gravel Light folded tyre. I find those are little harder to change than the original 700x28 tyre as it's a little soft.

Very very helpful when decathlon were not. They owe you a bike! From what I saw this looks entirely normal- no pun intended. I assume those canisters are disposable one use? Thanks! Yes I just carry the two metal levers. The CO2 inflator is disposable bottle, and the valve is reusable, lighter and quicker than carrying a pump, although I'd probably opt for a a pump on a longer journey.

I have opposite experience than this. Tyres were completely impossible to change. Really. I bought some Schwalbe new ones and struggled 2 hours to fit them on my wheel but did not succeeded. So I took my whole bike to Decathlon for them to try. They were laughing first but after more than hour and after several technicians tried they admitted there is something bad with the tyre size, so Decathlon rather gave me back money for the whole bike than trying more. My experience. I dont think every RC120 has the same tyre size issue but I would be really cautious when buying that bike again

I have them. I went to decathlon to let them show me how to open the tire to replace the punctured tube. 2 guys on the wheel battling and they did break their plastic tool. They brought the wheel inside the workshop, then 3 guys come out the shop with the tire open, easy and they could replace the tube. Non one of them have a smile. Bottom line here, if you buy this bike RC500 or RC520, remove the tires a couple of time to get use to them and to break rubber a bit so next time they become more easy to open. the more you open the tire the softer they become. For me I returned the bike to Decathlon and got my money back because the rear wheel start to flex under heavy pedaling after 2 weeks.
