The Limbu community in Sikkim is a community of the first inhabitant tribes in the state... The name “Sikkim” comes from the Limbu words “Su” meaning ‘new’ and “khyim” meaning ‘house’. “Sikkim” referred to the new house of the rulers that time, one of the wives of whom, was a Limbu.

Here are the major tribes of Sikkim: 1. Bhutia 2. Lepcha 3. Limboo These tribes have their own distinct culture, language, and traditions, and they contribute to the rich cultural diversity of Sikkim. Here's a rough estimate of the population distribution: - Bhutia: 30-40% - Lepcha: 20-30% - Limboo: 20-30% - Other tribes: 10-20% Note: The exact population figures are difficult to determine due to intermarriage and cultural exchange between the tribes.

Scheduled tribes of sikkim - Limboo, Lepcha, Bhutia( dengzonpa, Sherpa, yolmo, kagtey ), Tamang. Sherpa,kagatey,yolmo doesn't come under Bhutia in sikkim,Sikkimese bhutia is in it's own a tribe consisting of different clans.What you're referring to is "Bhotiya" a larger group of widespread communities of people which are ethno-linguistically related to Tibet, living in the Transhimalaya region that divides India from Tibet
@rajivsarmah84133 жыл бұрын
@@MetalboxwithKanon the word bhutia is a word derived from bhote, bhotiya, used by pahadi to tribes related to tibbet. Nepali pahadi ( khas ) used to call it for today's Nepal n Sikkim. In central Himalaya uttarakhandi khas used to call. Dengzonpa never used to call themselves bhutia. So any tribe related to tibbet comes under bhutia in Sikkim to whom pahadis used to refer. Check ST of Sikkim. Lepcha, bhutia, limboo, tamang. Where is sherpa, yolmo in list. Sherpa, yolmo, kagtey r ST from 1978 with dengzonpa n others as bhutia. Otherwise Sherpa, yolmo would have been mentioned seperately.

@@rajivsarmah8413 I know about the ST order of 1978, but you might not Know that Bhutias have been here for centuries before 1978 and from what i know we Don'tconsider sherpas as bhutias here in sikkim. And What I'm saying is that in General here in sikkim People don't consider Sherpas as Bhutias. We bhutias have different Clans(assampa,Shangderpa,Gensapa etc ) and we intermarry within our clan(with few exception) and "GENERALLY " most of the people here see Sherpas and Bhutias as different tribes but with few similarities. You need to see it in microscopic level if you really want to understand about certain topic. Sherpas is in it's own a distinct tribe which has different clans(thimmi,chawa etc ) likewise bhutias(Denjong pa)are different tribe with many clans (Assampa, Thakarpa, Shangderpa etc ). This both tribes comes under BHOTIYA(A term to categorise all the people ethino-linguistically related to tibet living in india,nepal,bhutan. Thank you!

@@MetalboxwithKanon I know about it. I m talking it in legal sense as described by govt of India from 1978. Btw ur bhutia population in sikkim as per census includes Sherpa, yolmo, dukpa. Most bhutia of Darjeeling r dukpa n Sherpa not Dengzonpa still called bhutia. It's like calling limboo, Rai, sunuwar as Kirati together.
@MetalboxwithKanon3 жыл бұрын
@@rajivsarmah8413 well you're typing out of context we're talking about sikkim not darjeeling! And Government of india has interest not in the population but on how strategically important we're to them. They classified Other Indian Bhotiya tribes as Sikkimese bhutias. Come here and ask a Sherpa whether he considers himself as Sikkimese bhutia he will say no. Because to outsiders like you we all are same, just like all chinese are same to us but if you look at microscopic level you'll find the difference i.e Han,manchu,hui,miao etc and again within these groups you'll find different subgroups.

The fact they aren't nepali speaking people, they all have Sino-tibetan language and the reason why we don't want to label as nepali more but as Surname cuz for other people if they heard we are nepali than they think we are from nepal, Even though we are from Sikkim/India itself but we are seen as foreigner, due to less knowledege of people.

nepali is not a "tribe" or even a "ethnic" group. its literally a nationality. before the existance of nepal most ethnic group such as the limbu, magar, tamang, gurung use to have their own kingdom and countries at one point in history. ethnic groups such as sherpa, and tamang of nepal have languages that come from old tibetan. rai and limbu people are kirat, they follow kirat religion. the nepali language it self comes from khas people...nepali was originally known as khas-kura.

Indian gorkha isn't even a tribe. If you want to make a video, why don't you a proper research or see the ST(tribals) recognized in the state of sikkim according to Indian government. I don't understand why do people like you just make videos anyhow without any research. There are only two tribes recognized in sikkim Bhutia(denzongpa, sherpa, gyalingpa etc.) and lepcha(rongpa/rongkup). The rest don't have st status or are immigrant tribes who aren't granted tribe status in sikkim.
@rajivsarmah84132 жыл бұрын
St in sikkim r lepcha, bhutia, limboo, tamang. It's available in wikipedia. N aborigin of sikkim r lepcha, limboo, dhut mangar( mangar have three sub tribes). Bhutia r migrant from tibbet. Sikkim is derived from two limboo words su khim. Kanchanjangha( bhutia word) original name seseylungma. They have to wait till 2003 for ST cuz they were not buddhist but shamanic n resisted ruling class( ruled from 1642 from tibbet) conversion unlike lepcha who took buddhism so not among those who were recommended by king in 1975 which was only based on safegaurd of tibbetan buddhism follower. Tamang were not recomended as their buddhism is associated with shamanism n not regid like sherpa, dengzongpa. It has nothing to do with aborigin. Aborigin mangar still not ST as they r culturally more mixed with indo aryan than other n influenced from hinduism from 1800. N their history distorted as mangar resisted tibbetan more in process of formation of buddhist monarch unlike lepcha n limboo. So u shd come with proper knowledge too.
