Tribute [Saxxy Drama Finalist 2014]

This is a Drama entry and one of the finalists. I want to thank all those who watched and voted for my video!
Juggling army life and "civilian" life has never been easy but I've done it! I finished my Saxxy 2014 entry. Now I can focus on defending my country without worries! Vote for my video between September 24th and 30th and I'll start working on the rest of my projects...promise :P.

Synopsis:
"The mercenaries could always rely on respawning should they perish in battle but the system itself isn't foolproof. Unlucky mercenaries will remain dead. One such mercenary died in battle and never returned, leaving his friend depressed and thirsty for revenge. Holding up his friend's mantle, he sets out to honor his dead friend's memory but soon realizes that his obsession over the past almost cost him his life. The hardest part of living with losses, as he soon learned, is to let go..."

Despite the fact the video doesn't directly mention it, this video is actually much more depressing than you think. The spy, so traumatized by the sniper's death, blames himself and because of that disguises himself as the sniper, does the sniper's job, and tries to kill the sniper's murderer, trying to patch up the bleeding memory in his brain as if doing all this stuff will avenge his friend's death. At least, that's what I think. A very emotional video, and I honestly wish I felt more sad about this video than I do. It's beautiful how such a light-hearted game can bring such a sad but intriguing piece of work. Thank you, so much.

Yeah. The spy saw his friend die right in front of his face. Tried to forget the scary memory by doing what his friend does.But he still remember all the incident that he had spent with him and visited the 'Respawnable Failure' graveyard and took off the sniper hat, revealing that he was a spy and wanted to kill the red spy but instead forgave him. Not really forgave but he was just like if I kill you, It won't do any good for me

This reminds me way too much of my friend and I. We both went to Airsoft matches, he used a sniper, I focussed on sneaking behind enemy lines and causing absolute havoc, wearing reinforcements and taking out supporting players. One match was in an old run down suburban area, he was sniping from a wrecked roof, I was trying to give him a chance to take shots at a group of defending players. I was closing up on a pair of snipers when another guy I had missed spotted my friend and got a lucky shot on him. The shot startled my friend when it hit his goggles and he lost his footing, he slid down and fell off the roof, he landed upside down and broke his neck. He didn't survive the fall. Airsoft was closed for awhile and testimonies were taken, no charges were filed, it was simply a freak accident. The man who took the shot that killed my friend stopped playing Airsoft, I don't blame him, nor do I hold a grudge against him, I actually occasionally visit him. But now, in respect for his memory, I took up his old Sniper Rifle, his first rifle which he had for three years, he called in Hawkborne, and still use and maintain it today. I've replaced several parts, but one thing I will never replace is the main body, which he carved both his name and the name of his gun into. I won't give to much info for fear of people looking into what, both I and his family, deem a private incident. I will only give his name, and his date of birth and death. RIP Luke 1991-2016 One of my closest friends and a brother in all but blood.

One time I had a one on one fight with a guy on a server. It was actually pretty interesting. It was a payload race on the rainy map (if anyone knows, let me know), and it was just me and him. As we were prepping, it heard the sounds of a sentry, so I quickly switched to Heavy so I could easily destroy it and defend the bomb. He evened the playing field with a Heavy with a more powerful gun, so when I died, I knew I couldn't really take him, so I switched to Scout and hurried past him to my bomb so I could finish my run first. In the second round, I stuck with the Heavy until he backstabbed me as a Spy, so I switched to Pyro to keep him at bay. I knew that I had to get to him before he started the incline on his bomb, because he backed off from it when he saw that I had respawned. In the final round (where we were to destroy the neutral base), he became a Sniper, so I ducked behind my bomb to avoid his line of sight while pushing it along to the end. Even though I won all rounds, he complimented me and we ended with a dance to the Kazotsky Kick. It's interesting how it quickly became a strategy game for me.

If you pay attention you should see that the sniper (spy) has a cigar in his mouth. Sniper doesn't smoke, so the animator did a really great job

This is such a cool way to have a respawn system work in a sfm and I love how they had it where if I'm the respawn fails that's it their gone forever and it really shows how for the most part dying means nothing but it's still something you don't want to happen to you or your friends because they might be gone forever

The idea was to put some sort of reality in the whole respawn thing. "Imagine that you never respawn again; that you just die for real. How would that effect the game world? Or the lore?" This sfm explains the respawn failure fear in the lore. Hoped this helps.

Alfred Nobel probably left due to his age and he could have even gotten his heart condition from the battles he fought in as the teams demoman... Sigmund Freud probably left due to his cancer... Nikola Tesla got board of the fighting or sick of it and left to create inventions to further the human race... Davy Crockett probably left the team so he could go off and do his own thing... Billy the Kid got tired of that life and went off to become an outlaw... Stonewall Jackson probably left to go fight another war... Fu Manchu left to go do spy things... They all left and because they left the team then they had no reason to be brought back to life... The second gen mercs all left and were replaced... So they had no reason to be brought back... Maybe sniper couldn't be brought back due to the fact of he was planning on leaving the team... Maybe... Just maybe...

I once had a friend like that. we played on harvest, both pyro. we headed out together from spawn, and it went from nothing to waiting for eachother at the room and going together to die in one minutes because neither of us is good. then i got scrambled to the other team. we both still played, but never killed eachother, even though we both attacked at some poind by instinct. then i disconnected, and never seen him again.
