As the founder and Music Director of Heritage Singers (Canada) I congratulate the members of The Jamaica Folk Singers for continuing the legacy of Dr. Olive Lewin. As founder and Music Director of Heritage Singers I have been fortunate to take to Canada some of these folk songs that I learned as a member of The Jamaica Folk Singers. I immigrated to Canada and Heritage Singers (Canada) was founded in 1977: now in its 43rd year. We have been fortunate to take the culture to International Festivals to countries such as Holland, Germany, Taiwan, Mexico, and Venezuela. In Canada we have performed in La Chine Quebec, Montreal, Ottawa, Saskatchewan and to large audiences in Toronto and the surrounding areas. As Ambassadors of goodwill we received a welcome letter to New York in 1987 from Mayor Koch.We performed with Louise Bennett on several occasions including a welcome to the Queen at the CNE. The nostalgia that the Folk Songs have evoked makes it easy for us to attract large audiences of over 600-1500 people to our productions on many occasions. Besides regular performances for many organisations we have produced many major productions of our own including one called "Zuzuwah" with The Hon Louise Bennett Coverley who appeared in a Cameo role. We have done three pantomimes also and it was endorsed by The Hon. Louise Bennett-Coverley, who said "Christmas time is pantomime and I congratulate The Heritage Singers(Canada) for their presentation of Pantomime".We also visited Jamaica to participate in the Maroon Annual Independence Celebration and the next day visited and had breakfast with The University Singers before returning to Canada. It has been a colourful journey sharing our culture in Canada and including songs from Guyana,Trinidad, Grenada, Ghana, Cameroon and South Africa , in our Repertoire. When I joined The Jamaica Folk Singers I had no inkling that I would be taking the experience within The Jamaica Folk Singers to a foreign land and maintaining it for over 40 years.. Thanks again Jamaica Folk Singers and may the legacy of the founder Dr. Olive Lewin live on. August 21st 2020

Wonderful Folk Icon! Lady with the perfect pitch and poise for singing and dancing! Thanks for allowing me to be a part of the folk singers. I learned a lot from the stories you told about each song that we sang.
