It looks good to noobs, especially with blizzards, because it guards a bonus and doesn't reach out into the board so they don't lose the cap early. Most new players don't see the board and say "oh the pocket doesn't connect enough for me to keep making kills" they say instead "here's a safe hole that they can't get me in."

Hey Pete. About the question posed, I think a reasonable stance would be that despite the human nature to be dispositioned towards negative narratives, whether true or false, is better than having intentioned blocks to information as that helps to further establish a system for greater manipulation. I think the issue is less the information we seek and more in the information that seeks us (recommended videos, feeds based on viewer retention, etc). I think leaving this issue to the few and powerful would be wrong and though there doesn't seem to be a best scenario, for now at least, it should be up to us to manage our own algorithms and let natural selection take place for the moment. Maybe in some future AI could analyze with less bias our collective information intake and make individuals more aware of the dangers we face on an individual level or something, but for now I think it's a matter of personal responsibility to make sure we consume things that are beneficial to us. Similar to how it is up to us to eat correctly to maintain our physical health, while allowing McDonald's, Taco Bell, to exist en masse.. So too should be the case for our mental health. I dont think gating information is the right answer, just as I don't think banning Jerry Springer is the right answer, and I don't think banning fast food is a right answer.
@TheKillPeteStrategy5 ай бұрын
I wonder how we would even begin to control algorithms that know us better than we know ourselves. I'm down for the responsibility if I can be shown that it's possible.

As for if we got to the future I mentioned I would concerned about anyone having control as I think that would allow for more types of manipulation and I would prefer an unbiased system. Id like to agree with your take on a basic minimum. I just want you to be aware that it already exists, at least in the US, and it only creates the problem it's trying to solve. Basic needs are all public charity already. Food pantries, homeless housing, even phones are provided by government assistance. We also have unemployment and food stamps. All information about these programs can be found free at any library. I was homeless Pete. In America, there's no excuse anyone stays homeless, and yet the homeless population grows every day. We're past the point of basic minimum, we're giving privilege. The more programs we develop the less incentive there is to do anything with your life. Government assistance doesn't work for the same reason communism doesn't.
@Chris_Bro_aka_MR_PLAT1NEM5 ай бұрын
I too was homeless at one point and I totally agree with you. The people I met during that time had zero goals zero ambition and no meaning in their life. Sometimes it's because of trauma sometimes it's because their addiction takes over. Sometimes it's just pure laziness. That's why they STAY homeless. The rest of us climb out and find goals and meaning. Basic minimum makes things worse.

On a Venn diagram of dystopian novels they all overlap in the center, which is where we all are. Fun times. I'm being flippant, but should say all your points on the subject are well made and broadly agreed with. I'm fairly confident that part of our brains evolved to believe stories, that it was an advantage at the point we grasped the fact the the future is real and will become the present coupled with the need to convey ideas to our offspring; story was the medium and those who grasped the ideas in childhood were advantaged, hence the 'evolved to believe stories' idea. But that part of the brain did not evolved to be discerning between a true and false story, and that became a mechanism for manipulation. I think stories have outlived their usefulness in evolutionary terms, and we might be well served to consciously give them up. Might be a start.
@TheKillPeteStrategy5 ай бұрын
I don't know that that's possible. Don't you suppose it might be more of an issue of what type of story is worth believing vs giving them up entirely?
@desyncer5 ай бұрын
It would also be important to define what a story is. Because if you lost the ability to ever believe a "story", wouldn't that also mean you lose the ability to gain knowledge via written or verbal communication. You would only be able to gain knowledge through personal experience and never be able to share that knowledge with anyone else.
@chrisnorthern98975 ай бұрын
@@desyncer Two good points. I think of it this way; we are an egocentric species of necessity - one body, one set of senses, one brain, one nervous system tying it all together, and exactly one set of experiences to draw on; egocentric is built in. As I think a part of the brain evolved to believe story, that is anything structured like a story rather than simply the facts in correct causal order, I don't think it's possible to give it up. Like being egocentric, it might be enough to simply be aware of the fact and wary of knee-jerk reactions that are founded in it/them.

Players on their phone could be traveling by bus or train and lose internet connectivity as they navigate cell coverage. SMG has made the decision to give them a chance to reconnect for 10 minutes before automatically causing them to lose and take last possible current available place in the game (that is for neutral bots only). If I recall Pete lost internet for a short period of time in this game. Had it gone on longer, his turn would have been controlled by a bot until he reconnected. Why does SMG allow 10 minutes and older bots continue to live in AI bot games? I would guess it is a decision made from player feedback, since interacting with these bots favors the older players that understand how bots work. CAN a player who has botted out in an AI bot game rejoin the game after 10 minutes? That one I don't know.

I like your opinions on truth and the thought around what is it and how can we find it. I am certain that the truth is Jesus. One of the main points in how Jesus did live and die and is the truth is that the disciples saw him and were ready to die for the fact that they saw him after he died. And it was not just one or two it was all of them. And they did not gain any fame, wealth or popularity for preaching that Jesus is the way the truth and the life and that he is the risen Messiah. There is a very strong case for Jesus being the truth, so I recommend looking into it yourself and finding out what your opinions on it are, then questioning other and being open minded in that An online pastor that has been popular lately is Cliff Knechtle he speaks plainly on facts and logic which I think you'll love him You're great Pete I love your vids 💪

My questions to you Pete, if you object any source of truth, how do you then determine if anyone is truly ethical or not? Would you be a sceptic forever and how do you deal with those emotions that come with it? It seems lonely and not only that but entirely selfish. Is that how you want to live? Is there any truth that you would like to believe in that could bring you peace that there is inherent good somewhere? I feel like this line of thinking of yours can be destructive and it concerns me that you wish to take that route. I would really like for you to have peace, to know where you can find truth that you can trust. I know where my truth lies and I have full entire faith in it. I am comfortable in saying that. I haven't had an easy life, I have many times where I have been broken by others and seen the horribleness of the world. Just a month ago I lost my 24 year old nephew to a car accident where a trucker on his phone blew a red light and slammed into multiple cars. Yet, I still have the truth that I hold and it brings me peace despite what has all happened in my life. Another example, I lost my mother to cancer when I was only 7 years old. It was at that time I started to understand the truth and it brought me peace. I know your hesitation is that you are being overwhelmed by all the claims of truth in this world and it's hard to see the real truth among the false truths. I sincerely believe that you can find this truth and that this truth may have already been presented to you. Are you willing to listen and open yourself to the truth? Are you ready to be vulnerable, to let down your guard, instead of keeping yourself from the truth. This is a decision you have to make yourself, I can present you with the truth but I cannot and will not make you decide. This truth is open to all people and all people who chose to accept this truth will be able to discern what all the false truths are and see how they are false. There is tangible proof, I have seen it for myself, are you willing to be open to the truth?
25:15 Pete, if you "don't tremendously care about a +4," why did you take the Cap card (instead of just the Italy card)? For clarity: I ask these questions because I want to get better at the game, so when you do something that doesn't make sense to me I ask "why" in the hope of learning what I'm miscalculating.

Holy cow. Pete with the material analysis. As a socialist i do love to see it. I gotta gather up my thoughts on that question about media and all that.
@unovasfinest26235 ай бұрын
Ok so i also am very skeptical when it comes to media, mainstream or otherwise, primarily due to bias. Bias often gets in the way of finding the truth, and sadly its unavoidable. Bias colors how anyone views anything subjective and therefore how we discuss our ideas about the world, whether we mean to or not. When it comes to propaganda and misinformation and escaping that, i think of it sort of like Plato's cave. We're all trapped in this little cage as you say, or in a dark cave as Plato does. And rather than seeing the outside world for what it is, puppetmasters makes shadows on the wall telling us about the outside. Only by going outside for ourselves can we see things for what they truly are. Only then can we say that the puppetmasters are lying to us or telling the truth. But so long as we remain in that cave, so long as we sit content in our lack of knowledge, we stay susceptible to the influence of those that control the information we consume. And to directly poke at the original viewer's question, i think anyone who uses their power as a puppetmaster to lie or manipulate the cavedwellers is getting in the way of any sort of growth. In the end, its truth, freedom, and progress we should seek for humanity collectively. Deceit makes it harder to do that, even if you have some idea of noble intentions. So to me the answer to how to be wary misinformation and propaganda is education, instilling media literacy and a healthy curiosity in citizens at a young age. I believe that a basic understanding of history, civics, laguage, and art (especially literature) are necessary to cultivate a citizenry capable of effectively using their democracy to better their material conditions, my idea of progress. This is why (at least in the US, where im from) schools are a major battleground for politics. From segregation and religious private schools in the past to "critical race theory" and trans issues today, Americans from all parts of the political spectrum have been fighting for dominance over the cirriculum. And i think its a very important fight so we can help the next generations determine what is real. I also think it should be primarily educators as a whole who decide what they'll be teaching, as theyre the ones with the know-how, the ones who have been out of the proverbial cave and can tell the children about the outside world. I also wanna talk about the nature of propaganda. Propaganda in my opinion isnt always bad and isnt always dishonest. It is simply information that is emphasized more heavily than its counternarratives. For example, "racism is ethically and morally wrong and should be strongly opposed wherever it may be", is something i think any decent human being would agree is an idea that should be ingrained in all people. I think hammering things like this into people's minds in contrast to "racism is okay actually" is good. Good propaganda because this can help set a social standard of standing against racism. And uhhhh.... yeah
