Correct, big black box is not needed. That is why I made this video.... I needed a way to make more professional products to sell than what Design space and the Cricut would allow. When I made the investiment I was very unhappy with the size restrictions and the face that Design space would turn my art into a printed low-quality mess. I developed this method to circumvent that entire issue. Now I get full quality prints on glossy paper where I can laminate and make look more professional looking. I also now use the full page. This is important as one of my biggest sellers is Die Cut magnets and I hated wasting half a sheet of magnet paper every time I used Design space to print and cut. Now i print from photoshop and use design space to only cut.

I realize this is an older video, but thought I'd make a note for anyone else struggling like I was. My printer automatically adds a margin. Unlike this video, the software won't let me dismiss the fact that my image is larger than the print dimensions. When I'd print, my registration marks would never be perfectly in the corner, but they were still the same 1/4" size I set them to. (I made sure "Center Image" was turned on, but it didn't make a difference.) That meant that when I set the image position in cricut to 0,0 the alignment was off, even after cutting the tape and setting the page into place on the mat. I fixed the cut alignment by changing that positioning. I still cut the tape rectangle with the position set to 0,0 but when cutting the image I left the dimensions at 8.5 x 11, but changed the position to the width of the automatic printer margin. (In my case that's 1/8" so I input .125,.125 for the position.) It still wasn't perfect (I think reloading the mat shifted it a little) but it's the closest I could get it, and the only usable cut I had after tinkering with settings for quite some time. If your image has enough bleed around it, this will be the ticket. Happy crafting!

This tutorial is FANTASTIC! I ran into a few problems due to my equipment and I'd like to share my solutions if ANYONE is having the same issues I was! I am using Clip Studio Paint, Hp Envy 4520 printer, and I have an Explorer Air 2. And the material I'm using is a matte sticker sheet and the self laminate. First, don't forget page markers (those little squares in the corners of the page) CSP does not have a specific setting for markers unless you are doing storyboards for comics, so just add 4 squares yourself and save that 8.5" x 11" page as a preset for all your full page sticker needs. Now that's all fine and dandy, but my cuts were reaaally offset after setting up everything here correctly shown in the video. I found out my printer does not support borderless printing on letter-size pages, so the prints were coming out with a 1/8 of an inch border on all 4 sides. The way I tackled this was testing out the image size and positioning in Cricut. For some reason setting x= 0 and y= .125 and keeping the image size 8.5" by 11" works PERFECTLY! I thought since the boarder was there each side had to be reduced by .125" and the image had to shrink down by .25" on each side. To my amazement, all I had to change was the Y-axis. And with the laminate and sticker sheet, I made a custom material and set it to 325 pressure. 300 was almost on the mark, but 325 works perfectly. Other than all that, my printer stopped printing color for a bit, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver countless times. Don't ask me how I fixed that I don't even know. I hope this helps someone having similar issues!!

@JRBCubed

Ok. That was awesome! Finally a way to use almost the whole sheet of paper! For your mat.. I did some research and found a great way to get my mat to be nice and sticky over and over again! I washed my mats in warm soap water and scraped off paper bits and etc. Air dried. Then if you don't have a steady hand, use painters tape and tape off the outside edges that are not supposed to be sticky. Now using this glue I bought from Walmart, (I paid under 10 dollars for 2 bottles), called tack it over and over, and a sponge brush, I "painted" in thin layers on the space that is supposed to be sticky. Letting it dry between layers, ( I found that most of the time I only needed to use 1 coat), test with your hand it's stickiness ability. If your mat stays attached to your hand after placing your hand down on the mat then lifting, then you're good, but if not, add another layer of tack it glue. This works incredibly and I even have some of the first circuit mats that had lost their stickiness years back and work beautifully! I have to say this was not my idea. I got it from a young lady who did a video on this and I honestly do not remember who she was but she deserves full credit. I tried it, it works and just wanted to share what I learned from her! I will be looking forward to more of your videos! Consider me subscribed! 😊

no tape for the 12x12 ... use a 12x12 paper ... BUT in photoshop set your canvas (base background how ever you want to call it) at 11.5x11.5 ... put your registration mark at 0.25 like in the video same thing in four corner .... print it on a 12x12 paper CENTER IT (use the printer or program option for that) ... then in DS size your image a 11.5x11.5 but instead of placing it a 0x0 place it at 0.25x0.25 so ds accept your cut cause its 11.5 and it should work (work for me) can i ask what is the method you use to save your ds image in png ??? please
@flashsolutions
@flashsolutions 2 жыл бұрын
Change the registration marks to the pen tool and leave the pen out and you won't have a problem with the corners. Or... remove the registration marks in contours. Both methods work. If your mat is wearing from cutting same place, create a .01x.01 pen circle at x=0 y=0 and position your sheet to whatever x/y value you like so long as it does not exceed mat width/length. Recut your masking tape and repeat the registration markings for each new sheet. Use printed glossy vinyl stickers and you won't need laminate unless you want water proof stickers.

I've done print to cut, and yeah, it's a huge waste of paper, and it's a major pain to calibrate it every fricking time. So glad I found your video. I've never liked the print to cut feature of Cricut. I had to turn the lights off and do it in the dark every time. Even daylight would mess it up. Now I can do it any time. Thank you for this video!

Thank you!! I don't have Photoshop but I have had success using your steps on Windows Publisher. First I just started with "calibrating" my printer and machine by only using the four squares and reg copy paper (so I wouldn't waste ink) after gaining a sucessful cut then throw my design on the page and did the next steps on the video. The main thing is to figure out your printer. 😃

Eric, your tutorial and method worked like a charm for my full page size, extra large one image iron on. I've never used Adobe Photoshop but you made it easy enough. I used HP inkjet to print on Jolee's Easy Boutique Image for Dark Fabrics first. My Cricut Explore Air 2 did the cutting. The off-set white background worked beautifully. I made a few adjustments, like welding a lot of empty spots, but ultimately, the project turned out perfectly. Thanks!!!!

yeah.. it works! :) I used CorelDraw to prepare the registration marks. However I did find watching how he did it in 'inkscape' to be helpful as well. For instance, he gives the size of the registration marks that he uses.. mine were way too big until seeing his. In my 'trials' I used a pen in place of the blade which I was glad of because to start with I didnt use the registration marks at all !! Couldnt see a use for them. Stupid me.. Cricut uses them to size the page instead sizing to whatever was in the middle of the page. I learn the hard way. To make the mat last longer I dont have the blade in during the cutting of the registration marks or I can see that cutting repeatedly in the same place would wear out the mat in that spot. Now all I have to do is fathom out why on earth Cricut actually cuts 'twice' when only supposed to be once. But thats another issue. So grateful to Eric for giving his time to video and let us have how he does this 'work'. Bless yer heart honey, great stuff, thanks again.

When I cut the 8.5x11" guide on the painters tap, then put my printed A4 paper within this guideline, it didnt fit. What is the workaround please? You can use all the same techniques with UK A4 paper just need to change the Cut on the painter's tape to match your size paper. UK A4 is 8.27x11.69 in the US we use 8.5x11, so change your cut and you should be good.

Anyway if i try again utilizing all of 8.5x11 will update you. Forgot to mention, i did go into my printer settings from ps and unchecked, "automatically reduce large document that the printer cannot output." if that helps anyone. Once again, thank you good sir!
