SEQ speeds aren't really a good indicator, the Ultra may look good at SEQ but when it comes to Random 4k write its getting 0.3MB/s so its really a bottom barrel drive. Recently, I noticed how long it took for me to create a Windows 24H2 with it compared to something like a ultra luxe which was getting 2MB/s.

Hello there, I also had that Sandisk Ultra Flair, your favorite disk. It was not your fault that you broke it. The inner part of the thumb stick is actually hollow. The mouth of the usb stick actually contains the flash storage already. My usb got its plastic cracked. I think the reason of having it metal is that when the usb flash heats up it would cause the plastic to heat up to, over time breaking that plastic and causing you to buy a new one.

I have four of USB type C Ultra Dual Drive Go 32GB, they all have overheating issues. Read speed for cold drive is ~160MBps, after heating up (almost instant) it drops to 120MBps. For the write, they reach 60MBps but only for the first 0,5GB of transfer, after that speed drops to 45MBps, then after transferring total of 1,5GB speed drops again this time to 20MBps, then after 6,5GB in total, transfer speed drops yet again to ~16MBps. So the average write speed for 10G file is 23MBps.

I used the winner ( SanDisk Ultra Flair) for 2 years. I sent it back for warranty once because of overheating. The new product has arrived but it is also getting hot. In other words, it provides reading and writing speeds, but it heats up in a very short time and there is a huge decrease in speed. That's why I definitely don't recommend it.

Hi, may I know if you bought it from reputable retailer, random retailer, or directly from Sandisk? Did you deal with Sandisk directly for the warranty claim, or was it honoured by retailer? I'm considering to get one, but reading quite a bit of reports of overheat. There're different speculations of the cause: counterfeit, all USB 3 storage will overheat, or small flash disk will overheat, etc. I'm totally lost 😅

PNY Elite Pro 3.2 v2 is the best. I own a 512gb and I just ordered a 256gb PNY Elite Pro 3.0 256gb because I'm always putting files on these usbs. They have an incredibly fast write speed and read speed. The v2 version is a lot faster but I found a deal on the 3.0 version from a seller. If money isn't an issue go with the USB 3.2 model of PNY Elite Pro 3.2 v2. Not only are these incredible fast but they're built like a tank. I've dropped my PNY Elite Pro 3.2 v2 several times and not a single dent on its strong metal casing. Now I've only dropped it on the wooden floors at my house. If dropped in the street it probably will scratch up because that's concrete.

Didn't want to edit my comment but wanted to type that the USB Memory sticks that go really fast over 100mbps in write require you to have that usb speed in your hardware. If you don't you obviously won't be able to take advantage of the speed advantages. I am on newer hardware. I have an i7 12700f and Ryzen 7 3700x.

Can you review the Datatraveler SE9 G3 as well? DTKN 64GB variant has lower write/read speeds than the higher capacity Kyson variants (128-512GB), which might explain why you've gotten slower than advertised transfer rates. DTSE9 G3 variants have no speed discrepancies according to Kingston. The 512GB variant of SE9 is one of the cheapest for its size - way cheaper than SanDisks, for certain.

One thing that I've noted with USB flash drives over the years is that the smaller the drive, the worse the performance. A good USB flash drive, especially ones with higher capacities need to have a larger footprint to accommodate more components and provide better thermal performance. Mediocre flash drives are everywhere but I'd highly recommend that you stay away from them especially for capacities > 32GB or you'll end up having to deal with frustrating backup times. Among all the drives I've used, I'd recommend the Corsair Voyager GT/GTX drives(if they are being made anymore) or the Sandisk Extreme/Extreme Pro USB drives for decent write performance.

Ver-Bay-Tum, not sure of the other pronunciation but this company was god 20 years ago for backup disks. I found ADATA drives have too short a connector that not always goes the full depth to contact. Never had this on any other drive which I have most brands & PNY was my first death to date. A BASF 64GB drive had half its memory die leaving me with just 32GB drive. FYI : all flash drives & Portable Hard Drives use the lowest binned chips, next lower binned chips are in the rubbish bin. SO don't expect them to last.

My 2 cents. Yes write speed is important, but not so much nowadays from the post-era of saving entire 2 gig movie files and music a decade ago. The average user might use a flash drive at work and most people work on one file at a time and that is assuming you work at an office. Most people don't even use flash drives. Speed for some might be important, but for me, its reliability. Years ago I bought a cheapo flash-drive and I did not do a backup and I plugged the darn thing and it did NOT work and I lost all my files. I steer away from off brands. Also a warranty is important. It gives you peace of mind. And yes I know there is no way you can test for long term reliability, but stay away based on price and cheapo no name brands. I have had a few no name brands fail. So you have a super fast Mustang GT that can go almost 160 mph, but breaks down every 6 months. Or you can have a Toyota Landcruiser that barely goes 70mph, but it breaks down every 5 years if that, which do you prefer? I go with the reliability.

I have 4 Verbatim. 2 of them are Verbatim Store and Go 32 GB. 1 of them died. The other often has problems with writing. Speed of writing goes down to 100 B/s sometimes. These failed after 2 y. Initially, they were fast and trouble free. The other 2 Verbatim sticks are also 32 GB and they had this kind of problem since day 1: very slow write speed, it jumps to 30 MB/s and then goes down to 100 B/s. They have a QA problem. These are all USB 3.0 I have a Kingston 8 GB from 2008 and it is much faaster. It is USB 2.0. I have a cheapo USB 2.0, 16 GB. It seems to be better compared to the Verbatim.
