When Tricky was young, there was a street in his neighbourhood notorious for crime. Because of this, Tricky and his friends called this street ‘Hell’. They would often dare each other to run down the street, and so when writing this song Tricky was influenced by the time that hell was quite literally round the corner.

This song is so incredibly timeless. I played it in between sets once when i was bartending at a music venue. There were quite literally hundreds of people asking me who the artist was. When i told a few who were sitting at the bar had looked into Tricky and by the end of the night we were all discussing music and how amazed they were because the lot of them apparently assumed it was a newer song in which they were being acquainted. Some people like to gatekeep good music and ive never understood that mentality. Spreading the word when someone is interested in something unfamiliar to them is fantastic not just for the listener but the artist as well. Arists being discovered by younger generations is how their music lives on after theyre no longer with us. Id never stand in the way of that process❤

The bass-line is taken from Belgian band Wallace Collection's 'Daydream' 1969, who already used the strings from Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake'. Also sampled by Isaac (Ike) Hayes, Claude François, Portishead, Beta Band, I Monster, Lupe Fiasco and Hooverphonic (in 'Mad about you') who would later cover 'Glory Box' to close the circle. De nada.

Thank you, art faculty, for introducing me to Tricky and his brilliant songs, I listened for 4 years! Hell is 'round the corner where I shelter Isms and schisms We're living helter skelter If you believe or deceive Common sense says you shouldn't receive Let me take you down the corridors of my life And when you walk, do you walk to your preference No need to answer 'til I take further evidence I seem to need a reference to get residence A reference to your preference to say I'm a good neighbour, I trudge So judge me for my labour Lobotomy ensures my good behavior "Hell Is Round The Corner" I stand firm for our soil Lick a rock on foil So they juice me, seduce me Dress me up in Stussy Hell is 'round the corner where I shelter Isms and schisms We're living helter skelter If you believe or deceive Common sense says you shouldn't receive Let me take you down the corridors of my life And when you walk, do you walk to your preference No need to answer 'til I take further evidence I seem to need a reference to get residence A reference to your preference to say I'm a good neighbour, I trudge So judge me for my labour Lobotomy ensures my good behavior The constant struggle ensures my insanity Passing the evenings ensures the struggle for my family We're hungry, beware of our appetite Distant drums bring the news of a kill tonight The kill which I share with my passengers We take our fill, take our fill, take our fill I stand firm for our soil Lick a rock on foil So they juice me, seduce me Dress me up in Stussy Confused by different memories Details of Asian remedies Conversations Of what's become of enemies My brain thinks bomb-like So I listen he's a calm type As I grow And as I grow, I grow collective Before the move sit on the perspective Mr. cradle in the crevice And watches from the precipice Imperial passage Heat from the sun somedays slowly passes Until then, you have to live with yourself Until then, you have to live with yourself I stand firm for our soil Lick a rock on foil So they juice me, seduce me Dress me up in Stussy Hell is 'round the corner where I shelter Isms and schisms We're living helter skelter If you believe and deceive Your common sense says you will receive Let me take you down the corridors My brain thinks bomb-like Bomb-like My brain thinks bomb-like, bomb-like, bomb-like My brain thinks Bomb-like Beware of our appetite

How have I not heard this before now? Here from Jacob Givens channel..... This is amazing. Had I known about this I would have worn it out by now.

Absolute a fueguillo sin gatillo. Timeless. And thats coming from a throwback afro Cuban percussionist of the golden era of Cuban music and bebop.

The perfect song to play while walking through a cursed, town, devoid of human life, inhabited by insane, gibbering horrors from another dimension while praying you'll get out alive with your sanity intact.

This very short piece of music 'movement' was f'ing intense. It nailed the Zeitgeist! It was made for this time and only this time. If you was not there at the right time, you will never understand it. Sorry. But that is a fact. Enjoy and dream of the grey, grey days that spread so much colours!

I am going to get some acid, lock myself in a dark room with no internet at all, and trip all night listening to this on loop. I know it's going to be beautiful.
