I meet Hoov two weeks ago at Fisherman’s Paradise, he helped me and my younger pick out a few flys for Spring and Penn’s Creeks…what a knowledgeable guy! He was so so friendly, shared his knowledge and my brother and I felt so welcomed to the area, this guy knew his stuff; I’m trying this tonight, thanks.

Another thing that works well when tying in the foam is to cut the corners off a bit where you will tie it in so it reduces the width at the tie-in. Don't need to make it a point, just reduce the width at the tie-in to make it easier to capture the foam without cutting through it. Good to see you add more dubbing as needed to the body. You can always add dubbing, removing dubbing that is too thick is much harder! Amen to using your fingers to whip finish! I would have made the wing a little longer but that will certainly work. Also if you snip the crystal flash fibers at a few slightly different lengths it will put that sparkle that comes out of their ends into more of a realistic wing shape, instead of it all being in a straight line. Cicadas in the Southeast hatch from one brood or another every year. The 17-yr is the biggest but even the annual Cicadas are big. Smallmouth Bass in the New River, the James River, and the Shenandoah River of Virginia are absolutely stupid for Cicada imitations. It's the biggest insect by far that they will get a shot at all year and they slam them. With all that foam, that Hoov's Cicada should float like a cork, so don't hesitate to smack it onto the water. Cicadas don't land delicately on the water, they plop onto it and fish will key into that heavy smack onto the water. Great fishing when Cicadas are out if you can put up with the racket they make.
