Nice to see the No.1 in use. As a Swede these where the knives I grew up with. It was used in the military, the home workshop, scouts and by electricians alike. It used to have a version with a guard but this is the bog standard one.

Great knife. I'd take a Mora Classic over a big bushcraft or survival knife any day.

My first knife was a 511 in the 1980’s. But soon after got a no1. It was my favourite knife as a boy because it was great for whittling. The 511 had a finger guard that was in the way. Nowadays I prefer a no 2 because of the bigger handle. I bought a lot of expensive knives through the decades but sold all of them except my Mora knives. The Moras just cut better. My favourite is probably the Mora 2000 or the Kansbol. The mora classics were absolutely everywhere. Standard issue in the Swedish army and civil defence until replaced by the Mora 2000 in the 90’s.

Great review Neil. Standard bit of kit for anyone who likes to play in the woods. A good allrounder and cheap as chips.

The new knife is not the same knife. It has a full rattail tang in stead of a glued in 3/4 tang and the handle is now stained red in stead of painted. Might not be twice as good but it feels more premium now.

Someone who knows what they are talking about! Great video. Mora Classics are superb steel, making light work even on tough hardwoods carving things like spoons and spatulas etc. The steel indeed shames knives at £300.The joke is the price - foolishly cheap. Keep it well greased to keep the rust away.
@MartiniDave023 жыл бұрын
Nice video. I've a few of those style Moras, as you said they are fine working knives within their limits. I think I might be one of the few people who quite likes the plastic sheath, for the following reason - I've never done it myself, but I do know of people who have managed to slice through a letter sheath, in one instance resulting in a nasty gash to a couple of fingers.

I have Mora-3 (150) and classic laminate in leather. The plastic sheath is wonderful - light, does not get wet, minimal volume.

I noticed recently that when I went camping with friends in the past few years, I always carried a few knives, mostly Mora.... I used the Classic Mora even though I brought my also beloved Companion HD, Bushcraft Black, or even Kansbol, for some reason... Those other Moras are "just in case" for my friends who may not be experienced knife-users in camping. Turned out to be a good teaching material too

You don’t want to know what I paid for my Classics. (1, 2 & 3) I bought mine about 4 years ago and they were still expensive. I’m glad I got them though as they’re sold out now and have been replaced with the new Classic series.

Changing the sheath is not the only thing Morakniv has done with the "classic" series. The little 2/0 (my preferred neck hanger*) has been discontinued, and the #3 seems to have been changed - at least it doesn't look like my trusty old #3 that I inherited from my dad, some 50 years ago. I have several of their models, but I find myself returning to their cheapest model, the 511, again and again. Fits my hand just fine. The damn bean counters haven't hiked the price on that one .. yet. * For safety, I've added a little leather strap with a press button to keep it in the lousy sheath. I'll probably end up making a new sheath for it, sometime two o'clock next year.

You know, I see some guys say that Mora's are terrible knives for the field because of their light tang and I always have to ask, what could they possibly be doing with their Mora to get it to fail? Cause when I use mine for what it was meant to be used for, it's superb. They can only be using their knife for things it was not designed for to get it to fail. That's the only possibility. I keep a Companion with me wherever I go.

I see a lot of people praising mora for being brilliant budget knives
@karlboll3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, as a Swede it's a bit wierd. A "Mora knife" is just a high carbon steel knife from Mora. It's a bog standard tool knife made by lots of manufacturers. Until someone decided to trademark it as a name and pump out overpriced versions. A classic generic Mora around here can be had for as little as £4.
@lewisward43593 жыл бұрын
Neal, I've considered getting one of the Mora #1 in carbon steel for several years. Went over to my favorite retailer in the states Ragweed Forge, which always had great selection. Apparently, the whole Mora Classic Line has been discontinued. This is disappointing when the bean counters rule the world.:-( End of an era. Fortunately, Mora kept the Mora 106 and Mora 120.
@rsjson789c3 жыл бұрын
Mora has been re-working their line. While change is good if it is actual improvement, I agree that Mora seems to be choosing for bean-counting than for quality (though F below is encouraging). The Classic line is still there, but with fewer selections, and the price has about doubled from what i remember. Web site Morakniv.se and their American distributor Industrial Revolution put the Classics at about US $35-40, which is a nasty jolt. A. The Classic No 1, featured in the video, does appear to be discontinued. B. A new(?) Classic No 1/0 has appeared, (maybe renames the confusing old No 2/0?). It looks like about the same handle size as the No 1, but with a shorter blade, No 1/0 at 77 mm / 3.1", vs the old No 1 at about 98 mm / 3 7/8". C. The old Classic No 2 is in the line, as No 2 (C). The No 2 is slightly larger than the No 1, with blade at about 104 mm / 4.1", with correspondingly larger handle. D. The No 2 (C) is also currently available with a finger guard, No 2F (C) ( I think this used to be the 612). E. Ragweed Forge apparently still has some old model 611's in stock. This was the old Classic No 1 with a finger guard. F. The Mora website says the Classic line has gone back to the century-old rat tail tang; which they "improved" several years ago into an epoxy mounting system. (The knife in the video at 2:22 seems to be the epoxy model; no tail stub is visible.) G. Sheath on the new line-up is the same crappy plastic, which cannot be justified at the new pricing. The sheath is adequate to protect things in a pack or a toolbox, but expect to replace it for belt carry.

They reintroduced it. It’s also very easy to buy new old stock on the Swedish second hand market. People sell boxes of never used mora classics. Typically surplus from the army

I’ve been using one of these for well everything since 2004 I bought 2 on the advice of Cody Lundin , just in case anything happened to the first one . I’ve not been genital with this knife and the spare is still unused These knives are the bomb very sharp easy to maintain and as they get older the blade gets a beautiful patina on it . My knife has never rusted because I wipe it before I sheath it look after your kit and it looks after you Love your channel buddy , great advice and knowledge ,keep up the good work

Do yourself a favor, cut the tip off the sheath so it can drain any moisture in the thing. I got into a little moisture, and cleaned up the knife, and then put it away. I didn't use it for a week and I did, the knife was all deeply pitted. I modified the plastic sheath, and haven't had it happen again. Definite design flaw, next time I won't use a plastic sheath.

I bought myself one of these several years back. It arrived with the worst dog leg Ive ever seen on a knife. I was stunned that Mora would let this out of the factory and even more that the seller would sell it on to me in this state. And neither of them seemed willing to do anything about it. Dont touch with a bargepole!! Cheap crap!!
