Yes bollywood or the hindi film industry has a lot of flaws no doubt but at the same time there are a lot of things to appreciate as well. If you try to praise any Hindi film or actor/actress people will put a stamp on you as a paid PR of that particular film or actor. Why can't people enjoy all the film industries I just don't get that. Like for me i enjoy a Hollywood film as much as I do a bollywood film or Korean film, bengali film, Marathi film or south indian films (if they are good). Honesly, bollywood has always been much better than Tamil, Telugu and Kannada (Not sure about Malyalam) industries in terms of women representation. Even if we leave aside the female centric movies, the objectification has been absolutely gross in whatever I have seen in these industries, we have it in bollywood as well but the degree and intensity makes a difference! Also, I have noticed how most of the male actors down south have a special prefix for their names in movie credits, but never seen that for a single female actor, this in itself creates such a huge differentiation!!!

I am so glad Jammy mentioned Aishwarya. A legend in her own rights, the mediocre Hindi script writers didn’t know where to place them and now finally with young directors, females directors and producers we see that changing. Also let’s not forget the men who are more than willing to write scripts for women lead stories. We need Kahaanis, khoobsurats and even NH10s to made more in numbers. A mix of that will engage audiences. Also bring back heroines who rules the 80s and 90s, they will still rock if it’s marketed well and presented with a compelling story. ❤

The Hindi film industry, admirably, has a long history of commercially successful female superstars (eg. Madhubala, Nargis, Hema Malini, Rekha, Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla, Kajol, Rani, Karisma & Kareena, Aishwarya, PC, Vidya, Kangana, Alia, Kriti, Shraddha...) I think credit goes to the industry as well as the audience for this. But of course, we have further to go. PS: You should talk about female Directors as well. I think the Hindi film industry has done a decent job of giving opportunities in this regard. You could enlighten us about other industries.

I just watched Stree 2 and the hype that Shradha is getting is bizarre. Rajkumar Rao carried the movie, whether be it funny, emotional or romantic scenes. He along with Pankaj and Abhisekh were the parts that carried the film as well as screen time. Shradha's character felt more like a supporting cast like Alia's in Gully boy. I have seen so many other channels creating this narrative that Shradha was the focal point but that is not the case. I am up for female led movies, but I feel this is so unfair to Rajkumar Rao. The whole social media or any articles that we see is all about Shradha and she is there for just 15 minutes in the movie.
