I don't think it's problematic bcz Heroine was always angry on Vijay for it. That's the whole Vijay Rashmika chemistry in that movie untill rashmika finds that Vijay is good. Vijay old school mentality is also corrected by Rashmika in the climax. So i don't get what's problematic in it. She didn't inform the parents only bcz she don't want to give the punishment of Vijay for his sister. Jammy didn't mentioned this in the video.

It means u haven't seen the movie properly...where is the casual treatment for that matter in the movie?? Rashmika slaps him. Ties his hands Calls his brother. His brother was literally there to kill him. He escape from a running bus. Rashmika don't say his name only bcz she feels his sister nd her brother shouldn't be stopped bcz of Vijay mistake. After that even Rashmika wasn't close to him. She was always angry. Even Vijay old mindset of wanting a mom like wife was corrected at the end by Rashmika... So i don't understand where that scene had been taken lightly. Infact the whole movie builds on that scene.

I agreed with your point at first during the screening of RRPK but I've thought about it and realised that the depiction of Dhanlaxmi is super realistic, and her dialogue "I'm too old to change" I found to be not just a hundred percent true but also, was her 'redemption' so to speak. Shes admitting that she might be wrong but that's the closest she can come. Some characters can only have some development I guess. If Karan had presented a moment of admission of guilt, it would have taken away from this idea, that not every person wants to change and is capable of change
@TriedRefusedProductions
@TriedRefusedProductions Жыл бұрын
I actually did not seek for any form of redemption for her. My issue was that the stoic demeanour at least regarding her own marriage is a front to keep the business running. A loveless marriage stems from something. I don't want her to come out as a loveable character but at least having the ability to vent behind closed doors with her husband, that the union is a two way street and that it was not easy for her too
@nishaaroar
@nishaaroar Жыл бұрын
@@TriedRefusedProductions But in the story, she was the first one to not accept her husband as he was. A poet rather than a businessman. She was cold towards him first and then he had an extra marital affair. They both found their own ways to cope up with their loveless marriage. While she took on the business, he took on the affair. and they both became who they were in the present day and eventually she became too rigid to change or didn't see any point in venting out because she had been silent for many decades already.

I agree about Dhanlakshmi, the first thing I said after leaving the theatre was we never got her why for being so bitter, and it's not hard to just fill in the blanks but it left something to be desired when we didn't get to see her as a human feeling other emotions beyond taking an ego-trip or the like. Though, I did come across a theory in my voyage to catch as many reviews as I could that since the makers didn't want to redeem her they shied away from anything that would make viewers sympathetic to her. Also, thank you for for the series!

@@TriedRefusedProductions I just watched rrkpk and would like to share my views on this point too. I think its rightly portrayed that she did not have her moment of any realisation or venting. Because that is very real life like. If every character had had developed it would be just fictional like "oh it is a movie and movies end happily ever after".It would have left a perfect life and happily ever after effect which in reality is not true rather people and families have imperfect people and grudges they all just manage together. Especially when it comes to old people its not very real to admit mistakes or say sorry have guilt so many old people they carry trauma from their time as well as patriarchal rules which they amend accordingly to their surroundings but not necessarily accept on ammending it. Small instances of these things can be seen in our normal Indian families. Alot of times mothers/wifes they just accept and live like that and I've personally seen my father accepting the changing society not on face but because we don't leave any other choice. Same happened with Jaya she knew its not possible to change now she has nothing left on her but she can just go on with whatever is happening. Edit: Also to add, by the end of movie I didn't considered Jaya as villian so I don't think she needs to be termed one she just had her patriarchal rules and her owning of business and being the head of house just added more dominance on her character. She was not a villian but a product of her own upbringing which doesn't need to have a heartfelt backstory. Cause in reality people are just like this alot of head people of families are like this without any back story. Alot of mother in laws are like this and in countries like us there are alot of loveless marriages so for me its completely okay to for once see that no not everyone is perfect but always on scale/scope of development.

Hey Jammy. Thank you for bringing up the character Dhanlaxmi in this video. I was quite happy to see that they shared her "origin story" in the beginning to help audiences understand why she is the way that she is, and maybe even empathize with her. While some people were able to hold on to that, others forgot about it and it would have been nice if her character had also had a chance at redemption of some kind. I think in a recent interview, Karan Johar also admitted that the one incomplete character arc in the movie is that of Jaya Bachchan's character. Anyway, this is always a fun series to watch :)

The creepiest thing is an act is not independently wrong or right, it depends on who does it. If the villain does it, the heroine is dusgusted by it (which she should obviously feel) and the hero punishes villain for it. But the hero also does same act many times in the first place (which he shouldn't have done bcoz he is the morally right person) & the heroine likes the act, sometimes falls in love due to that. Its so wrong at so many levels. I remember 1 of Main tera Hero, Varun first spanks Jackeline on the ass and then kisses her at a shopping store not even at a personal space, after that she falls for him, my god what will happen if youth get inspired by such kind of acts😵‍💫😵

Films are the biggest impression maker. And youth do get inspired by it. I saw a heroine who was telling her co actor miss behaved with her so she slapped him, in turn that co actor also slapped her. And ppl were commenting that this is equality. So u disturb a girl and she slaps u, in turn u should slap her, surprisingly many ppl had this mindset in that comment section. Hey jammy, about Dhanlaxmi’s character in the movie, I think it was pretty natural because I have literally crossed path with someone like her and it’s very normal for people with her character to hold on to their ego till the end. I personally found it very realistic.. a sudden change and softening of heart would have been more unrealistic I think. But that’s just my opinion based on the real life experience I have with someone like her. She was shown as someone who only cared for herself more than anyone else.

What you say is very true about Jaya ji's role in the movie Rocky aur rani ki prem kahani. I don't understand why she was made the ultimate villain while she made the ultimate sacrifice on top of which this family was built. All the wealth, the luxury and the lifestyle, the family is able to afford was built because of her hardwork and discipline. There was no reason to have made her so insufferable. All strong women are mostly shunned upon by our society - since either they don't understand them or they can't stand their ability to wither any storm - that could be the director's reasoning for making Jaya ji's character the way he did - it is quite unfortunate. My heart went out to her thru out the movie - she also suffered from a loveless marriage just as much as the others. Why were they glorified and why was she not? She was forced to take on the reins of running the family since nobody else were upto it. That should not be the reason that would provoke so much hatred.

Totally agree with your take on RARKPK! Also, if what happened in the movie were to happen for real, it is disrespectful for Jaya to watch her husband kiss another woman in front of her. They basically endorsed having an extra marital affair. If Jaya knew about her husband's affair, she would have had the option to leave him.. but what she gets instead, is her son and his family bashing her for not keeping the family together and making ends meet. The story telling was too one sided and I think Alia's character was responsible for that black and white perspective.. atleast ranveer's character had some layers

In Telugu 80's and 90's saw a rise of commercial cinema catering primarily to labour class. This was also the period where Telugu cinema's art declined on mainstream cinema and Bollywood's commercial cinema influenced South industries. Thankfully Telugu cinema is going back to content.

Jammy, they did have the letter scene that Jaya's character addressed to Alia's character right. I felt that it was a decent closure, because Jaya went so far in making life hell for everyone else, it can't be just fair to just let go of it immediately. But I did feel it would've been a slightly better closure if she had been there in the climax wedding song, sitting a bit far from the close family, with some of the guilt she'd be possessing. As a first mark of acceptance, ranveer and alia would go to her to seek blessings, but then she apologies similar to how Amitabh Bachchan's character did with SRK in K3G. Fin. 😂

I also think in Rocky Rani, they should've explored Jaya Bachchan's character in a better way. This could be because they didn't have the time to explore as the movie was lengthy enough or to showcase how Alia's character will be the pioneer of change in Ranveer's family. Either way, Jaya Bachchan's character didn't deserve what she got as she was suffering as well due to her circumstances.

Rocky aur Rani had several problematic moments. The glorification of cheating and justifying it by saying the partner was abusive is laughable. Get a divorce and then pursue your romance. Kissing your lover in front of two families and calling it romantic is just gross! For all the amazing moments in the film, Jayaji was given a very poorly written character.

I think she chose the character of Dhanalakshmi to show the audience why she behaves like this in real life. She has endured a similar kind of betrayal (actually more toxic) from her real life partner. And like in this movie, in real life too, audience praise the man and his mistress and blames the wife for being aggressive. It's not always her ego, it's how she copes with the situation. She needs a partner who will love her and can be trusted, in both reel and real life.
