I don't understand why every "women centric films" need to come with so much socio-political baggage. Some people in the comments section need to realize that the producers don't really care about women's empowerment. They care about profit, and the reality is that overly sexualized scenes still make money for them. Then they insert some culturally controversial scenes to create publicity, then sell it off as empowerment, or whatever buzzword their marketing consultants think is trendy. Women's rights are one of the many serious issues we have here. It shouldn't be invalidated just because an entertainment industry like Bollywood represents it terribly. Expecting realistic depiction of feminism in big-budget movies is like expecting to learn physics from Rohit Shetty

Honestly we have made up our minds that if a film has a female main character, then the story must be about strong revolting character. We can't accept a movie/series which is based on normal 21st century working women, who are living their lives with problems faced by everyone. Four more shots is not that great, but we have to appreciate some changes that can be seen in the series like non stereotypical gay character, bisexuality, single mother etc. But instead of judging the actors on the basis of their acting we judge it, if it's based on the wrong fundamentals of feminism. If the sketch is showing women abusing casually, we say gaaliyo se empowerment nahi multi. Obiously we can't like a movie only because the main character is involved in casual sex, smoking, drinking, timepass karti hai. But humare liye ek achi female movie sirf woh hai jismain the female is fighting against the society and not the one jaha usse equality mil chuki hai.

Akira is actually a remake of Tamil film Mouna Guru. The original version actually have a male lead. It was not an action film. It was about a college student with anger issues caught in middle with crime cover up. The main character don't have any martial arts background, and he don't have that much action sequences. It was gritty crime thriller. Directer Murugados tried to remade this as an action movie. And that why it sucked.

Bollywood thinks that they just keep a female as the lead , give them the " raging feminist " attitude and then change nothing else about them. Same creepy romance setting, absolutely no depth or layers , and then they just show the characters rock bottom where she just goes to some guy for help every time. There are also movies with good, realistic portrayals of feminism, which don't rely on stereotypes and the characters don't come across as assholes. Strong female characters are characterized by a cigarette, a cocky attitude and a sense of fashion according to bollywood. They give the characters absolutely no growth , or depth and then wonder why they didn't work.

Well people complain that women were not given good roles in old movies which is wrong there are many movies that showcased women in strong role and nowadays we have films which are anchored with fake feminism and nothing else. So we should showcase movies with women which is real and in which the women are there to perform

Just wanna ask one thing why are women centric film supposed to bring a "social change" and to be perfect, veere di wedding was meant to be for entertainment and about 4 problematic but normal people!

Another film I want to talk about is "Angry Indian Goddesses". Such a realistic depiction of the joy that is female friendships. Makers of "Veere Di Wedding" should have watched it before making that pathetic excuse of a film. Sadly not many people saw it.

Feminism(read Pseudo Feminism) is only limited to the elite class women at the current time. The ones who direly needs it doesn't have it. On the pretext of equal rights these women are forgetting about equal treatment to all. Look at tweets of Swara,Mallika Dua or Radhika Vaz.

I don't think Indians are really ready for women centric movies like #VeereDiWedding!! I mean i suggest please do watch Hollywood movies like sex in the city, Girls Trip, bad moms, brides maids, the Bachelorette, The Heat and Bride wars,!! LMAO 😑

Akira started out super interesting and as the story progressed I come to relate with the main character of Sonakshi but then I was left with dropped jaw at the end where the story abruptly shifted from a fearless and courageous woman to someone who is forced to give in to the corruption and take the blame.....I was furious!

But no doubt it was way better than sonakshi in dabangg franchises.

Piku is such an underrated film. It deserves way more praise than it gets. Entirely centered on Piku, the woman lead, her dealing with her old father, her attitude, her independence, her way of life, everything. Deepika did it beautifully. Amitabh sir gave a phenomenal performance as well. From acting, to screenplay, to the direction, it's just simply beautiful!
