I'm a Filipino, born and grew up there. I'm living in the US now, been here for 13 years. I remember I was in high school when the Mt. Pinatubo volcano in Central Luzon erupted. It was a dormant volcano and it was its first eruption in 500 years. What made it even worse was that it happened during a strong typhoon. So even though our town, Angeles City, was several miles away from the volcano we were severely devastated just like the rest of the surrounding provinces within I would say a few hundred miles radius of the volcano. It was literally raining sand all night. Total power black out. But I never saw my dad panicked. He was like, it's pitch dark out there, if we evacuate, where are we gonna go? We heard over the radio that bridges around the city have collapsed so there was no way out of the city. We are far away from the river where the lahar is flowing dangerously so he said, even if this sand rain keeps going all night, it still couldn't bury us here. We should just make sure our roof wouldn't fall down. So he added wooden logs to support our ceiling. Every other hour or so, we would climb up to the roof to shovel off the sand so it wouldn't accumulate. We did this all night with a few minutes of sleep. He was calm the whole time which made me, my mom and my siblings calm as well. I don't remember being fearful. The following day when I saw our neighborhood is when I realized how bad it really was. But we survived.

As a Filipina, This made me laugh so hard🤣🤣🤣 All of this are funny because it's true and it's what we mostly do. I experienced Typhoon Haiyan, also known as Yolanda in 2013, but after the storm we were like... "Let's see what became of the outside world now". Like dudes! We may have felt a bit scared, but yeah... Bagyo lang Yan, Pilipino kami🤣🤣🤣

I am from the from the side of the Philippines where Typhoons would always hit first (Bicol) because we are literally facing the Pacific ocean, we were hit by Super Typhoons/Category 5 typhoons (one of the strongest one was Super Typhoon Rolly where we were literally in the eye) , and we still joke around and laugh during the typhoon but the aftermath is not funny at all, no communication for a week and no electricity for almost 5 months (max), but still we are used to it and we get through them easily

2:34 chismisan or tsismisan means gossip, so it means that even though there's a storm, "marites" (or karens in english) will find a way to communicate with each other just to gossip other people's privacy or something like that (but sometimes their gossips are not even true)

There are two types of phenomena. There are the monsoon rains which bring a lot of water but not devastating winds. But the aftermath is floods. A typhoon on the other hand brings more devastating winds. We in the Philippines get more than twenty typhoons most of which are not so strong. But a handful bring really strong winds which result in destroying property, knocking down trees and street posts and blowing the roofs of houses. The wind per se is not as dangerous but rather all the flying debris like G.S. sheets of roofs which can cut anyone in half. and trees falling over ones head or car or house.
