Trigger finger is a condition of the hand that limits finger movement. It is characterized by the inability to straighten a finger from a flexed position. It occurs due to tenosynovitis caused by inflammation of the tendon sheaths surrounding the flexor digitorum profundus and flexor digitorum superficialis. The swelling and inflammation prevents the tendon from gliding smoothly through the sheath, and thus the finger gets stuck in the bent position and then snaps back into place.
Initial treatment for this condition is usually non-surgical, with rest, splinting, exercise, over the counter pain or anti-inflammatory medications, or steroid injections. Surgical treatment for this condition involves physically releasing the swollen A1 pulley sheath surrounding the tendons. It is and open procedure in which a small incision is made along the palm to expose the A1 pulley, which is then cut. The finger is then tested to ensure that smooth flexion occurs.

What he didn't tell you is that it can be quite painful. And it is often caused not only by swelling but also by scar tissue present from a previous injury. Yes, you can fix Trigger finger. I discussed this with a VA orthopedic surgeon. He recommended against it because you can go in and clean out the scar tissue and make some incisions, but in his experience most individuals develop a new set of scar tissue from the surgery which eventually leads to the same problem. An imperfect solution. Aggressive occupational therapy combined with aggressive deep tissue massage of the affected limb yields better results, especially when dealing with the comorbidity of CRPS. It will be painful, but is better for you in the long run.

I had this surgery a few years ago. When i started working on construction zones, the force on my hand was too much and after a while i couldn't move my finger back after bending. Also when i lifted weights it was a problem. For i think 3 years i always thought it would heal but instead it got bad more and more. The surgery was half an hour and i was awake the whole time. In the end the doctors asked me to bend my finger and my head told me it wasn't bending because of the barrier i had every day. But there was no barrier anymore and the doctors told me it is fine and i should watch (i did not want to watch them cutting my hand open). When i saw it the first time, i was able to move my finger completely open and back without any problem, it felt like a dream, it felt like magic. Modern medicine is insanely good

I had this problem for several months in the ring finger of my left hand. I did not see a doctor. I did a 5 day fast drinking only lemon water, taking NAC, electrolytes and vitamins. I've had a trigger thumb for several years. I was a goalkeeper (football, or soccer for you Americans out there), and often after training I had a sore thumb on my right hand (plus I write with the same hand, so the problem also occurred when I wrote too much). At first my treatment was ice and rest, but after years of constant problems (and months of skipped practice due to this), I decided to consult a specialist (since my family doctor couldn't help me). Thank God he recognized the problem immediately, and he explained that it would've been solved with "a small cut to be made on the ring that covers the tendon". Needless to say, I didn't understand what he was talking about. Two months forward, a week post-operation, I was already moving my thumb normally. Now I'm 22 years old, I'm no longer a goalkeeper, but I never understood what all of that was about, until now. So thank you with all my heart❤

I might have the same thing. The upper bend of my thumb (toward the finger nail) doesn't like to bend when I try to move it sometimes. I have to force it with a snap, and afterward it makes smaller snapping noises (or simply silence with the feeling of a small snapping) and doesn't quite move smoothly, but it actually moves back and forth again without as much effort
