It’s legal to videotape people in public, but just because you CAN do something, it doesn’t mean you should. Anyone can act this way toward the general public, but very few of us do.

Being an Indian (not the native but the Asian kind), I can almost say with certainty that the Indian store owner didn't mean anything by coming up that close to watchman. 99% of us Indians don't understand the concept of personal space.. that's just how most people have conversations 🙃.. Also probably explains why he looked confused when he was told that he got too close.. Follow up comment after 12 hours following the colourful replies: Just to clarify..there was no defending of actions being done here..just offering a perspective.. people are allowed to have perspectives..also, the store owner obviously realised he was wrong and apologized..which he should do.. yea, when in Rome, do as the Romans.. completely agree... Well this is the US not India or Pakistan ! The Asian shop owner shouldn't get closer to white American Camera man . What consider normal in south west Asia not necessary okay in the US . Now imagine this. You have a business in a Main Street. You want people to come to your store to give you business to make money to pay your rent and your employees. You have someone take a video of your store for who knows what but your first thought is to act a fool throw in that it’s your business. It’s free publicity. Me personally I saw a business on one of these videos and I went online found their website and placed an order. Here's how copyrights work, you can copy someone's work all you want. The moment you try to sell that copy and make money, THAT is when you violate the copyright of the copyright owner. Taking a picture of something is and of itself not a copyright violation.

Do you know what is sad? I lived in Madison for almost the entirety of last the last decade, from 2010ish to 2020ish. I loved that city. There were once many businesses who would accept ONLY cash. You wanted to plan your outings so you wouldn't pay an ATM transaction fee (but they were available in a pinch). When I moved there from another mid-sized Midwestern city it was almost kind of a culture shock. That is, cash only businesses seemed to be a very "Madison" thing. We all know what happened. But it's depressing to see just how everything has unfolded. I moved back to Michigan and now stare my goats in the woods. I regret nothing, and nothing has yet caused me to feel that I ever might, sadly. I do miss the city I remember, though.

I am the exactly the opposite, when I see a cash only, I don’t trust the business because they can play with their sales and try and not pay their fair share of taxes. When businesses offer card payment, they get a summary of sales from the company that provides the payment machine showing how much transactions were made. Keeps them honest when paying taxes. You can literally see the recollection of what all that struggle was even for while he was speaking in his eyes, that man really had a flashback, remembering so much and said to himself “nah this guy’s right, I might not like what he’s doing but I fucking fought for this & I’ll be damned if I have all that time- all that blood sweat & tears go down in vain” and fell back into a bit of humility, wow.
